Black Girls Do Politics: 250th Sis — Unfinished Business
2026/09/15
We want to hear from you! Send us a text
America is turning 250. But for Black women, the story of America has always been more complicated than a celebration.
In this episode, we are joined by Anneshia Hardy, Executive Director of Alabama Values and Alabama Values Progress; Jamie J. Johnson, former Missouri State Representative and Statewide Coalition Director for People Not Politicians; Attallah Pamoja, Afro-Latina speaker, educator, and grassroots organizer; and Zoë Rose, Content Producer for Black Girls Do Politics.
Together, these Black women from different generations and political backgrounds reflect on what 250 years of America means to them and unpack political power, progress, representation, and the issues shaping their communities.
From the progress Black women have fought generations to achieve to the challenges that remain, this conversation makes room for different perspectives on where we’ve been, where we are, and what Black women want to see from the country moving forward.
250 years later, there is still unfinished business. And Black women have something to say about it.

Black Girls Do Politics: Sis, The Planet Is on Fire
2026/05/17
We want to hear from you! Send us a text
The Climate change is not a future problem — it is happening right now, in Black neighborhoods, Black bodies, and Black zip codes across this country. Black people are living on the front lines of a crisis we did not create, and the people making the policies that could save us keep leaving us out of the room.
In this episode, we're joined by Elijah Perry, a 30-year veteran of environmental justice and clean energy advocacy, and Cyndee Harris, an environmental policy strategist fighting for water and energy equity in underserved Southern communities. We break down what environmental racism actually looks like on the ground, why Black political engagement on climate is not optional, and how we can engage to fight back. We also honor the legacy of the Mother of Environmental Justice — who changed federal policy forever with nothing but a clipboard and a refusal to be ignored.
The climate crisis has a color. And we are not going down without a fight. Black Girls Do Politics, y'all!
Black Girls Do Politics: Sis, The Map is a Weapon
2026/04/20
We want to hear from you! Send us a text
Gerrymandering, voting rights, and a courtroom battle that could change everything — in this episode of Black Girls Do Politics, we're pulling back the curtain on the political strategies being used to strip Black communities of their power, one redrawn district at a time. From Missouri, where a coalition collected over 305,000 signatures to put gerrymandered congressional maps on the ballot, to a Louisiana Supreme Court case quietly threatening to gut the Civil Rights Act itself, the attacks are coordinated, they are calculated, and they are coming from every direction. Joined by policy strategist Rhyane N. Wagner of Black Voters Matter, and Jamie J. Johnson of People Not Politicians, we break down what these fights mean for Black political power, who is behind them, and what Black women can do right now to fight back. Because the map is not just a map — it is a weapon. And we are not going out like that. Black Girls Do Politics, y'all!
Black Girls Do Politics: Primary Shakeups, ICE Raids & Black Women Running in 2026

We want to hear from you! Send us a text
Immigration enforcement, primary election shakeups, and the road to the midterms — in this episode of Black Girls Do Politics, we break down the headlines shaping the political moment. From the firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and renewed debates around ICE enforcement to the recent primaries that brought national attention to Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett’s race, we unpack what these developments mean for Black communities and the political landscape heading into the fall. Joined by regular guest host Summer Nettles and Republican Georgia State Superintendent candidate Mesha Mainor, we talk about voter turnout, the growing number of Black women stepping forward to run for office, and how local races can shape national conversations. Because primaries decide power long before November — and staying informed is the first step to staying engaged. Black Girls Do Politics, y’all!
Black Girls Do Politics: Black History Is Not Optional
2026/02/05
We want to hear from you! Send us a text
Black history is not optional — and in this episode of Black Girls Do Politics, we break down why it’s under attack. From book bans and curriculum rollbacks to political language that labels Black history as “divisive,” this conversation unpacks how erasure shows up in real time and who benefits when Black stories are minimized. Joined by regular guest host Summer Nettles and narrative strategist Anneshia Hardy, we explore how history shapes power, why these fights are happening now, and what Black women and communities can do to protect our stories. Because when history is erased, rights follow — and remembering is an act of resistance. Black Girls Do Politics ya'll!

2025/10/30
We want to hear from you! Send us a text
They’ve been redrawing the lines — literally — to keep our voices out of power. This week on Black Girls Do Politics, we’re breaking down the real tea on gerrymandering and how it hits Black voters, especially women.
We’ve got Rhyane Wagner, Senior Policy Manager from Black Voters Matter explaining what gerrymandering really means (and why it’s not just a history book word) and Moné Holder, Chief Advocacy & Political Officer from Florida Rising unpacking how Florida’s “exact match” rule is blocking tens of thousands of Black and Brown voters.
It’s giving: “They tried it.” But we’re talking receipts, resistance, and how to fight back for our power — line by line. Black Girls Do Politics ya'll!
