#234 Apparently, that's a compliment
2026/10/05
"The pantsuit is tea"… and apparently, that's a compliment! Angela's return to her alma mater comes with a vocabulary lesson, and we're still explaining what it means to "Pull an Angela." Add Taco Bell, Fran's NYC week, and Atlanta Braves baseball, and we've got plenty to ramble about.
The conversation takes a deeper turn with an Instagram account sharing FAKE Bible verses and why we need to check what we read against Scripture. We also discuss Phillip Anthony Mitchell's ACCESS event, his Street Preachers podcast, and his upcoming book.
"Contending is not just being loud, but also being faithful." We're carrying that thought into our new memory passage, Colossians 3:12–13, as we consider compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness.
Join us for #234 Apparently, That's a Compliment, because there's room for laughter and a heart check in the same conversation!

#233 Well, That Took A Turn...
2026/09/28
Okay, but HOW did we get from Noah's Ark to a heart check?! 😂
This week we're rambling through the headlines and stories we can't stop talking about, from possible Noah's Ark discoveries and McDonald's drama to Amazon Pharmacy, Slim Goodbody, and the realization that our very friendly "guard dogs" would probably welcome an intruder right into the house.
Obviously, we have thoughts.
But somewhere along the way, the conversation takes a turn toward Psalm 139 and the prayer, "Search me, God, and know my heart."
We're talking about humility, the things we may not see in ourselves, and what it looks like to invite God to reveal the places in our hearts that need His truth.
If you need a good laugh, a few ridiculous rabbit trails, and a reminder to let God do a little heart work, this episode is for you.

#232 Consider the Wildflowers with Susannah B. Lewis
2026/09/21
Our beloved friend Susannah B. Lewis (aka Whoa Susannah) is back, and this conversation takes us straight into both the deep AND shallow end, which of course is our favorite place to be.
We start with the important things: what Susannah's theme song would be (hello, Michael Jackson), the easiest plants to keep alive, and her ever-growing love of gardening. But that conversation leads us somewhere much deeper.
Susannah shares what she's been noticing in the wildflower fields and the vision God is growing in her heart for ministry there. We talk about Jesus' words in Luke 12 to "consider the wildflowers," what it actually means to consider something, and why so many of us may need to retrain our brains to slow down long enough to notice what God is doing around us.
And because gardening will preach, we talk about seasons, pruning, and the reminder that sometimes cutting something back isn't cruel but necessary for future growth.
Susannah also takes us behind the scenes of her writing life, including what she's learning through the self-publishing process and her newest book, Our Happy Valley Home, with its Christian Southern Gothic flavor.
We wrap up with four biblical principles Dr. Dub believes every leader should live by, along with plenty of rabbit trails, laughter, and friendship along the way.
Whether you're in a season of planting, pruning, waiting, or simply trying to notice what God is doing right in front of you, this conversation offers a gentle invitation to slow down, pay attention, and trust the work He is doing in your life.

#231 Your Hand of Blessing is on my head
2026/09/14
We're taking a little trip back to the '90s reminiscing about the glory days we may remember just a little more fondly than they actually happened. We're also talking all things Dolly Parton, farm animals, and the Calamity Club. You'll just have to listen. 😂
But then the conversation takes a more personal turn as we share an update on Atlas and thankfully some very good news. We talk about how Psalm 139 became an anchor in the middle of uncertainty and what it means to trust the God who knows us completely, goes before us, and places His hand of blessing upon our heads.
We reflect on the comfort of Scripture when circumstances feel frightening, the difference between simply surviving and living the abundant life God has given us, and why we were never meant to walk through the hard things alone.
As always, we hope that with each episode you'll find us talking about Jesus in the middle of our everyday lives while being challenged, growing together, and with plenty of laughter along the way. We are so thankful that Jesus meets us right there in the middle of it all.

#230 Dr. Beth Madison: When Suffering Transforms Your Faith
2026/09/07
What does it actually mean to suffer well? In this episode, we're joined by a special guest, Dr. Beth Madison, for an honest conversation about suffering and the kind of faith that is formed when God doesn't immediately change our circumstances.
We often think suffering well means being strong, holding it together, or somehow finding the right attitude in the middle of something incredibly hard. But maybe suffering well has much less to do with our strength and much more to do with learning to depend on His.
Beth shares how suffering hasn't simply tested her faith but has transformed it. Through weakness, limitations, tears, and seasons she never would have chosen, she has learned the truth of 2 Corinthians 12:9 in a deeply personal way: His grace really is sufficient, and His power really is made perfect in weakness.
This is a conversation about discovering that God is good in the victories and in the valleys. Sometimes the most powerful testimony we have isn't that God took the hard thing away, but that we came to know Him differently because He met us there.
If you are walking through suffering, loving someone who is, or simply want a faith sturdy enough for the hard places of life, this conversation is for you.

#229 No Longer Hiding
2026/08/31
We're catching up on all the things this week including Fran's recovery, our time speaking at Jesus & Jammies, a few words we absolutely cannot stand, and a new Bible study Angela is loving.
Then we turn to Psalm 139 and a question that hits a little closer to home: If God already knows everything about us, why are we still tempted to hide?
We're talking about the important difference between conviction and condemnation, how to recognize the voice of shame, and why the Holy Spirit's conviction is always an invitation to repentance, freedom, and a closer relationship with God. Sometimes seeing what's really in our hearts is uncomfortable (and even embarrassing) but God doesn't reveal what needs to change so we'll run from Him. He invites us to bring it into the light.
Psalm 139 reminds us that we are already fully known. The question is whether we're willing to stop hiding and pray, "Search me, God, and know my heart."
Because when conviction makes us want to hide, we don't have to hide from Him. We can learn to hide in Him instead.

#228 Rambling about Psalm 139
2026/08/24
What if the very thing you're ready to move past is the place where God is doing His deepest work?
This week, we're talking about what it looks like to sit in the deep things with the Lord, to slow down long enough to let Him search our hearts, reveal what's underneath the surface, and lead us instead of rushing ahead to the next thing.
Psalm 139 reminds us that God already knows us completely, so why do we still pray, "Search me, God, and know my heart"? Maybe the searching isn't for Him to discover something about us. Maybe it's for us to become willing to see what He already sees.
We talk about trials, perseverance, our desire for control, the discomfort of conviction, and the strange tension of waiting on God when we desperately want to know what comes next. Sometimes faithfulness looks less like figuring everything out and more like putting down the phone, quieting the noise, and giving the Lord room to speak.
And because we can never stay serious for too long, you'll also hear why Angela had the best day ever, how Fran is recovering from her procedure, meet Frannie the mischief-making turkey, hear a little about our marriage retreat, and find out what podcasts we're loving lately.
Our challenge this week: Don't rush the work God is doing in you. Be faithful in the little things. Stay long enough to listen. And trust that the God who searches your heart is also the God whose hand of blessing rests upon you.

#227 Abundance in the Unseen Places
2026/08/17
What if the seasons that feel quiet, lonely, or even unproductive are actually invitations to something deeper? This conversation is about finding abundance in the ordinary moments when no one is watching and it's just us and the Lord. We're asking some honest questions: Where is my attention going? What has my affection? Why do I keep doing the things I don't want to do? And how am I stewarding the time God has given me? Maybe the hidden season isn't something to rush through. Maybe there is purpose in the unseen, blessing in faithfulness, and something good on the other side of our obedience.

#226 Welcome to Season 7!
2026/08/10
What if the thing you're trying to hide is the very thing God wants to heal? This week on Rambling Through Everyday Life, we go from monkeys in Costa Rica and an RV adventure to engagement news, books we're loving, and a much deeper conversation about faith, vulnerability, confession, and being truly seen by God.
Fran opens up about a hard season and what the Lord is teaching her about the condition of our hearts. We talk about the desire to be seen and known, the motives behind what we do, and how easily we can overlook sinful patterns because they don't seem like a big deal. But sin left unconfessed doesn't stay small. It spreads like kudzu, quietly choking out the growth happening around it until we deal with it at the root. And confession? It isn't telling God something He doesn't already know. It's inviting Him into the places that need healing.
We're talking about the serious and not-so-serious parts of everyday life and how God can use all of it to get our attention, reveal what's happening in our hearts, and draw us closer to Him. We encourage you to spend some time in Psalm 139 this week! We love y'all and we are so excited to kickoff another season with you!

#224 Sometimes things just don't work. But we keep going!
2026/05/12
This episode was indeed a challenge, but sometimes we have to keep going for the sake of not giving in to the tears, frustrations, and cuss words that are on the tip of your tongue.
Lord willing, season 6 will wrap up next week. Can you believe it? Where has the year gone?

#223 Seasons, Seniors & Sacred Joy
2026/05/04
This week's episode is full of heart, humor, and hope as we talk about the changing seasons of life and parenting. From graduation emotions and advice for senior mamas, to small-town festivals (hello, West TN Strawberry Festival 🍓) and a stop at San Antonio Taco Company, we cover the fun and meaningful moments that make up everyday life.
We also discuss why childlike play can be healing for our nervous systems, how our desire to control often comes from fear, and why trusting God with the next season brings peace.
We share summer reading recommendations, spiritual lessons from transitions, and the reminder that joy is sacred because of Christ. No matter your circumstances, real joy is available through the Holy Spirit.
Summer reading list:
A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer The Correspondent by Virginia Evans Over Yonder by Sean Dietrich aka "Sean of the South" My Friends by Frederick Bachman May Memory Verse: Ecclesiastes 3:1 "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven."

#222 Fifty & Fabulous!
2026/04/27
This week's episode is equal parts celebration and reflection. We're recapping Angela's "50 & Fabulous" birthday weekend in Franklin full of fun, laughter, and meaningful moments with the people she loves most.
But beyond the celebration, this milestone sparked some honest questions we're all invited to consider in any new season:
What do I want to carry forward? What am I ready to leave behind? How do I want to show up for the people who matter most? We talk about releasing expectations, embracing presence, and learning to celebrate the "little things" that make up a meaningful life. Because sometimes the biggest shifts don't come from major life changes, but from seeing our everyday lives with fresh eyes.

#221 Pickleball, Prom, and Pursuing What Actually Fills Us
2026/04/20
In this episode, we're talking about everything from Oura rings and energy drinks to funny church stories, bucket list dreams, and those "come along with me" friendships we all need. But underneath it all, we keep coming back to one question: What is actually filling us? Because no supplement, habit, or routine can replace the true source of peace, strength, and joy.
"Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well." — 1 Thessalonians 2:8

#220 Rambling About Fun, Faith & A Few Random Detours
2026/04/13
What do glow-in-the-dark pickleball, space missions, and a scalp massage have in common? Honestly… we're still not sure. 😄
This week's episode is classic Rambling Through Everyday Life, from Fran's nighttime pickleball tournament to our thoughts on Artemis II, a Tennessee Supreme Court session on Union's campus, and a surprising new favorite card game (SkyJo, anyone?).
We also talk about rising star Emily Ann Roberts (aka Yeehaw Mamaw 🤠), share a powerful quote from Dr. Caroline Leaf, and reflect on legacy, memory, and what really lasts, especially as Angela remembers her mom 28 years later.
It's funny. It's meaningful. It's a little all over the place… and somehow exactly where we need to be.
