S7 Ep : Luteinized Unruptured Follicles: When You Think You’re Ovulating… But You’re Not
2026/09/30
What if your fertility chart looks great, your LH surge is positive, your progesterone rises, and yet you still aren’t actually releasing an egg? In this episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, Teresa and Jamie welcome back Krista “CJ” Johnston to dive into one of the most frustrating and misunderstood causes of infertility: luteinized unruptured follicles (LUFs). CJ spent four years navigating infertility, endometriosis, recurrent LUFs, surgeries, and the emotional exhaustion that comes with feeling like you’re doing everything “right” without getting answers. Her story eventually led to a deeper understanding of what was happening in her ovaries, and, ultimately, to her first pregnancy. Together, we explore: ✨ What exactly is a luteinized unruptured follicle (LUF)? ✨ Why a positive LH test or rising progesterone does not necessarily confirm that an egg was released ✨ Why a follicle study/ultrasound series can provide information that charting and laboratory testing cannot ✨ The possible relationship between LUFs, endometriosis, PCOS, inflammation, scar tissue, and ovarian function ✨ CJ’s experience with recurrent LUFs before and after endometriosis surgery ✨ How pelvic inflammation and postoperative adhesions affected her ovaries ✨ The role of nutrition and iodine in CJ’s personal fertility journey—and why more research is needed ✨ Emerging approaches to healing and inflammation, including the unique use of PRP during surgery ✨ The emotional toll of infertility—and knowing when to keep pushing and when it’s okay to pause ✨ Why trusting your instincts and advocating for yourself matters Perhaps the most important takeaway? An ovulatory event is not necessarily the same thing as confirmed ovulation. S7 Ep7: The Ovarian Continuum: Understanding Your Hormones, Your Mental Health & Your Whole Self
2026/09/23
What if understanding your hormones could help you better understand yourself? In this episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, Teresa and Jamie continue their special partnership with FACTS – Fertility Appreciation Collaborative to Teach the Systems and introduce listeners to Talia Caridi, a first-year resident and future physician who shares part of her own story of discovering the powerful connection between her hormones, her health, and her mental well-being. Talia’s story helps illustrate an important concept we call the ovarian continuum, the journey of the ovaries and reproductive hormones from puberty through the reproductive years and ultimately into menopause. Our hormones are not isolated from the rest of our bodies. They interact with our physical health, mental health, sleep, energy, mood, and overall well-being. We talk about the relationship between hormones and mental health. Hormones do not define who we are, and they certainly don't explain every mental-health experience. But reproductive hormones and the brain are interconnected, and understanding that relationship can give women and their healthcare providers additional context when evaluating symptoms and overall health. At Hormone Genius, we believe that body literacy creates empowered women. The goal isn't simply to know that hormones exist, it's to understand what your body may be communicating and to have the knowledge to participate meaningfully in your healthcare. Your hormones are part of your story, but they don't have to be a mystery. Become the genius of your own hormones! S7 Ep 7: From IVF to Root Cause Fertility: A Doctor’s Journey Back to the Whole Person
2026/09/16
What happens when a physician who spent years becoming highly skilled in IVF begins to ask a bigger question: Are we treating infertility, or simply trying to achieve a positive pregnancy test? In this powerful episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, Teresa and Jamie sit down with Dr. Joseph Davis, an OB-GYN and fertility specialist with more than 15 years of experience, founder of Palm Integrative Fertility, and a member of FACTS About Fertility. Dr. Davis shares the very personal journey that led him from practicing IVF to embracing a more comprehensive, restorative approach to fertility care. His story is not about abandoning science, it is about recognizing that there is more science to fertility than many physicians are ever taught. Dr. Davis explains why conditions such as insulin resistance, thyroid dysfunction, endometriosis, diminished ovarian reserve, hormonal dysfunction, and recurrent miscarriage deserve deeper investigation, and why “unexplained infertility” may sometimes mean that we simply haven't found the explanation yet. One of the most fascinating parts of the conversation is Dr. Davis's discussion of the menstrual cycle itself. Rather than viewing ovulation as the finish line, restorative care looks closely at what happens after ovulation, including estrogen and progesterone patterns throughout the luteal phase and early pregnancy. Cervical mucus and other cycle biomarkers can provide valuable information about what is happening inside a woman's body. As Dr. Davis puts it, the patient is the best collector of her own personal health data. The conversation also tackles a difficult and important topic: the ethics of IVF and the dignity of the human embryo. Dr. Davis openly shares how his own ethical questions changed the way he viewed his work and ultimately led him to reconsider the role IVF played in his practice. Teresa also emphasizes an important message of compassion: this conversation is not about judging parents or children conceived through IVF. Rather, it is an invitation to think deeply about human dignity, informed consent, and the ethical questions surrounding fertility treatment. Finally, Dr. Davis talks about the exciting work being done through FACTS About Fertility, including the development of a new fellowship designed to train physicians in the science behind fertility awareness, restorative reproductive medicine, and cycle-based care. Your fertility matters. Your cycle matters. Your health history matters. And you deserve a practitioner who is willing to listen, investigate, collaborate, and help you understand the why behind what is happening in your body. If you've experienced infertility, recurrent miscarriage, diminished ovarian reserve, “unexplained” infertility, or simply want to understand your fertility more deeply, this is an episode you won't want to miss. S7 Ep 6: Your Cycle Is a Vital Sign: Why Every Woman, and Every Doctor: Should Understand the Menstrual Cycle
2026/09/09
What if your menstrual cycle could tell you something important about your health—just like your blood pressure, heart rate, or other vital signs? In this episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Pearl Huang Ramirez, a family medicine physician, fertility awareness-based medicine advocate, and founding member of FACTS About Fertility, to talk about one of the most overlooked tools in women’s healthcare: the menstrual cycle. Dr. Pearl shares her own journey of discovering fertility awareness-based methods during medical school, at a time when she realized that medical education had given her very little understanding of natural fertility or cycle biomarkers. That discovery eventually led her to Creighton medical consultant training and to helping other physicians understand how fertility awareness can be incorporated into real-world medical care. Together, we explore why the cycle can be considered a vital sign of health and what clinicians can learn by paying attention to biomarkers such as cervical mucus, basal body temperature, cycle phases, bleeding patterns, and luteal phase length. We discuss what charting patterns may reveal about conditions such as PCOS, progesterone insufficiency, abnormal bleeding, endometriosis and other hormonal concerns, and why understanding the cycle can help clinicians move beyond simply suppressing symptoms toward asking what may be happening underneath them. Dr. Pearl also explains the powerful partnership between medical professionals and fertility awareness educators. Physicians don't have to do everything themselves. A trained fertility awareness instructor or hormone coach can spend the time teaching women how to observe and chart their cycles, while clinicians can use that information to guide evaluation, laboratory testing and individualized treatment. And for the medical students, nurse practitioners, physicians and other healthcare professionals, listeningwe talk about an incredible opportunity to learn more. 🩺 FACTS About Fertility The FACTS Student Elective: FABMs for Family Planning and Women's Healthcare provides medical students and students in other health professions with education in evidence-based fertility awareness methods, female cycle physiology, chart interpretation and the integration of FABMs into women's healthcare. S7 Ep 5: The Postpartum Superpower: Breastfeeding, Colostrum & Nourishing Mom
2026/09/02
WonderCow is running a Labor Day Sale! Don't miss out and go this this link https://affiliates.wondercow.com/HORMONEGENIUS. We recently recorded an episode with Erica Diebersloot of Wonder Cow, who is three months postpartum with her fifth child. The conversation centered around her postpartum experience, breastfeeding, colostrum, nutrition, and practical strategies for managing motherhood and a large family. Erica shared that she has experienced a particularly smooth postpartum recovery, which she attributes in part to prioritizing a nutrient-dense diet, supplements such as beef liver, postnatal vitamins and colostrum, and making sleep a priority. She also discussed using gentle sleep-training strategies and shared that her baby began sleeping through the night around six weeks. A particularly interesting part of the conversation was our discussion about breastfeeding and the remarkable biological communication between mother and baby. Erica highlighted the feedback loop that occurs during breastfeeding, where a baby's latch and interaction with the breast can communicate information to the mother's body and help support the production of immune components and antibodies that meet the baby's needs. We also discussed why colostrum is often called "liquid gold," including its distinctive golden color and concentrated nutritional and immune-supportive properties. Erica noted that components of colostrum can continue to be present in breast milk even months postpartum. The conversation also included some practical and creative uses for breast milk that Erica has incorporated into family life. She shared using it topically for things such as diaper rash and poison oak, as well as using it as a natural facial cream. She has also added breast milk to smoothies for older children as an additional nutritional and immune-supportive boost. Motherhood, Large-Family Life & Practical Strategies Erica emphasized that one of the keys to managing motherhood is learning to be present while also accepting personal limitations. Rather than trying to do everything perfectly, she shared practical strategies that help make life with a large family more manageable. These included keeping pre-boiled eggs available for a quick source of protein, teaching older children how to prepare simple meals and take on more responsibility, and creating what she calls a "Breastfeeding Basket." The basket contains a rotating selection of special toys that are brought out specifically during breastfeeding sessions, giving toddlers something engaging to do while Mom feeds the baby. These practical conversations helped reinforce the broader message of the episode: supporting women during pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding, and motherhood requires not only good nutrition but also realistic strategies that make healthy choices more sustainable within the demands of everyday family life. S7 Ep 4: Want to Get Pregnant? Start Here: The Hormone Genius Preconception Guide
2026/08/26
What if preparing for pregnancy started months before you ever saw a positive test? In this episode of Hormone Genius, Theresa and Jamie dive into the often-overlooked world of preconception health and why preparing your body for pregnancy shouldn't begin after conception—it should begin before. We start with the “fifth vital sign”: your menstrual cycle. Your period, cervical mucus, ovulation, and luteal phase can provide valuable clues about your reproductive health. Learn the three simple things to start watching in your cycle and why understanding your body's natural fertility signs can be such a powerful first step. Then we move beyond the cycle and talk about building a healthy foundation for both women and men, including: • Why giving yourself at least three months to prepare can be valuable • The role of whole foods and the Mediterranean-style approach to nutrition • Key nutrients to consider, including folate, iron, iodine, vitamin D, choline, omega-3s, selenium, and zinc • Why thyroid, metabolic health, hormones, and nutrient status deserve attention • Egg and sperm health—and why the months before conception matter • The potential roles of CoQ10, DHEA, and other targeted approaches for certain individuals • Why your partner's health matters just as much as yours • Sleep, exercise, stress, and environmental exposures • Simple ways to reduce unnecessary exposure to plastics, fragrances, and other household chemicals • Why dental and medication reviews belong on your preconception checklist • What to consider if you've recently stopped hormonal birth control Most importantly, we talk about hope without blame. If you've struggled to conceive, “just relax” isn't helpful—and fertility challenges deserve compassion, understanding, and appropriate care. S7 Ep:3 Woven Well: Discovering the Beauty, Purpose, and Meaning of Your Hormone Genius
2026/08/19
What if your menstrual cycle wasn't just about fertility, but was actually revealing something profound about your health, your identity, and even your purpose? In this inspiring episode, we welcome Caitlin Estes, fertility care practitioner, founder of Woven Natural Fertility Care, and author of Woven Well. Caitlin shares how her own journey into fertility awareness transformed the way she understood the female body—not simply as a biological system, but as a beautiful design that speaks to a woman's dignity, health, and capacity for relationship. Together, we explore why understanding the menstrual cycle is about so much more than tracking fertility. Caitlin explains how hormones are not problems to suppress but important messengers that reveal overall health. Rather than viewing the body as something to "fix" or optimize, women can learn to appreciate the wisdom built into their cycles and seek care that addresses root causes instead of masking symptoms. The conversation also dives into the growing movement toward restorative reproductive medicine and why more women are searching for alternatives to hormonal birth control when dealing with painful periods, PCOS, irregular cycles, or infertility. Caitlin shares powerful stories from women whose lives were transformed, not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually, when they began understanding their bodies through fertility awareness. We also discuss the importance of community, education, and honest conversations between women. S7 Ep 2: Hormonal Birth Control and the Female Brain with Dr. Sarah Hill
2026/08/12
In this thought-provoking episode, we sit down with Dr. Sarah Hill to explore the far-reaching effects of hormonal birth control, not just on the body, but on the brain, relationships, and a woman’s lived experience of the world. Dr. Hill shares how her research was sparked by a deeply personal moment: after discontinuing hormonal birth control in her early thirties, she was struck by a profound shift in how she experienced life. Colors felt brighter, music more moving, and everyday moments more meaningful. This transformation led her to question what might be lost when the natural hormonal rhythm is suppressed. Together, we unpack the idea that hormonal birth control creates a kind of “black and white” internal landscape, flattening the natural peaks and valleys of the menstrual cycle. While this can offer predictability and convenience, it may also dampen the richness and intensity that hormones naturally bring to a woman’s emotional and sensory world. This conversation places that trade-off within a broader cultural context, where modern life often prioritizes ease and instant gratification, sometimes at the cost of depth and meaning. A major focus of the episode is the adolescent brain. Dr. Hill highlights how little we truly understand about the impact of hormonal birth control during the critical window of development between ages 12 and 19. This is a time when the brain is undergoing significant remodeling, guided in part by natural hormonal signals. Emerging research raises important questions about how altering those signals might influence long-term mental health and development. While animal studies suggest measurable changes to brain structure, human data points to a potential association between adolescent use and increased risk of depression later in life. Still, many questions remain unanswered, making this an area in urgent need of further study. We also explore the fascinating connection between hormones and attraction. Natural hormonal shifts across the menstrual cycle subtly shape preferences, especially around ovulation, when estrogen peaks. During this time, women may be more drawn to cues associated with genetic compatibility. Hormonal birth control suppresses these fluctuations, potentially influencing patterns of attraction in ways that are often invisible but meaningful. For some women, this can translate into changes in relationship dynamics over time, though experiences vary widely. At the heart of this conversation is a call to awareness. Rather than framing hormonal birth control as simply good or bad, Dr. Hill encourages women to understand it as a powerful intervention with real trade-offs. Hormones are not arbitrary they are part of an intricate system that shapes how women think, feel, and connect. Interested in being a Podcast Sponsor with THE HORMONE GENIUS? S7 Ep 1: Season 7 Premiere: The Truth About GLP-1 Medications for Weight Loss
2026/08/05
Welcome to Season 7 of The Hormone Genius Podcast! We're kicking off this new season with a timely conversation about one of the most talked-about topics in medicine today: GLP-1 medications for weight loss. From Ozempic® and Wegovy® to Zepbound®, these medications have sparked excitement, controversy, and countless questions. Are they safe? Who are they for? Are they simply a shortcut, or could they be a powerful tool for improving long-term health? In this episode, Teresa breaks down the science behind GLP-1 medications, explaining how these naturally occurring hormones help regulate blood sugar, appetite, digestion, and metabolism. You'll learn how these medications were originally developed for diabetes, why they've become such a breakthrough in obesity treatment, and what the latest research tells us about their benefits beyond weight loss. Jamie guides the conversation using the B.R.A.I.N. framework, Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, and Next Steps, to help listeners think critically and confidently when discussing treatment options with their healthcare provider. Together, we discuss: What GLP-1 medications are and how they work The difference between semaglutide (Ozempic®, Wegovy®) and tirzepatide (Zepbound®) Why obesity is now recognized as a chronic disease, not simply a lack of willpower The concept of "food noise" and how GLP-1 medications may reduce constant thoughts about food Potential benefits beyond weight loss, including improvements in diabetes, cardiovascular health, inflammation, and even emerging research on addiction Common side effects, safety concerns, and who may not be a good candidate The importance of preserving muscle mass with adequate protein intake and strength training How GLP-1 medications compare to alternatives such as lifestyle changes, metformin, and nutritional supplements Why these medications should be viewed as one tool within a comprehensive plan not a replacement for healthy habits Perhaps most importantly, this episode emphasizes the value of an individualized approach. There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The best treatment plan considers your medical history, goals, lifestyle, and values in partnership with a trusted healthcare professional. Whether you're curious about GLP-1 medications, considering them yourself, or simply want to better understand the science behind the headlines, this episode offers an evidence-based, balanced perspective to help you make informed decisions about your health. S6 Ep 43: Your Mouth Is Telling a Bigger Story: The Surprising Link Between Oral Health, Fertility, Hormones & Sleep with Dr. Katie Lees
2026/07/15
Most of us think of oral health as brushing, flossing, and avoiding cavities—but what if your mouth is actually one of the earliest windows into your overall health? In this eye-opening episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, we're joined once again by holistic dentist Dr. Katie Lee, author of Saved by the Mouth, to explore the remarkable connection between oral health, fertility, hormone balance, inflammation, and even sleep. Dr. Lee explains why bleeding gums, chronic bad breath, canker sores, dry mouth, and even the shape of your tongue may be signaling much more than a dental problem. We discuss how the oral microbiome influences the entire body, including reproductive health, and why treating the mouth may be a missing piece for women struggling with infertility, endometriosis, chronic inflammation, or unexplained health concerns. We also dive into one of the most overlooked health issues affecting women: sleep-disordered breathing and sleep apnea. Dr. Lee shares why petite women are frequently overlooked, how airway health changes during perimenopause, and why symptoms like TMJ pain, anxiety, weight gain, high blood pressure, fatigue, and dry mouth may all point to an underlying airway issue rather than "just getting older." In this episode, you'll learn: • Why healthy gums should never bleed • What your breath, tongue, and mouth reveal about your overall health • How oral bacteria may contribute to infertility, miscarriage, endometriosis, and chronic inflammation • The surprising connection between the oral microbiome and reproductive health • Why saliva testing can identify hidden pathogens that routine dental exams often miss • The best floss, toothbrushes, water flossers, and oral care tips for optimal health • How perimenopause affects the mouth, and why estrogen plays a key role in oral health • The relationship between sleep apnea, cortisol, blood sugar, weight gain, heart health, and hormone balance • Signs you may have an airway problem, even if you don't snore • Why root-cause medicine should include evaluating the mouth This conversation will completely change the way you think about oral health. Whether you're trying to conceive, navigating perimenopause, or simply looking to optimize your health, you'll discover why caring for your mouth may be one of the most powerful investments you can make for your entire body. Because your mouth isn't separate from your health, it may be the place your body has been trying to get your attention all along. Hormone Genius wants YOU to partner with us! S6 Ep 42: A Nurses Story of How Conventional Medicine Misses Treating the Whole Person
2026/07/08
What happens when a labor and delivery nurse begins to realize that the healthcare system she trusted is missing something foundational? In this deeply honest and empowering conversation, Meghan Morin shares her journey from conventional nursing to holistic hormone coaching—and how her own fertility struggles became the catalyst for transformation. As a nurse, Meghan loved caring for women during some of the most sacred moments of their lives. Yet over time, she began to feel disconnected from the deeper meaning of care. The system often reduced people to numbers, lab values, and symptoms to suppress instead of human beings with stories worth understanding. Everything changed when Meghan faced her own hormonal and fertility challenges. After months of trying to conceive, she sought medical help only to be dismissed and told she needed to wait longer before anyone would investigate. That moment sparked a deeper search for answers—and ultimately revealed how little education many healthcare professionals receive about foundational hormonal health. In this episode, Meghan shares how learning to chart her cycle and understand biological markers such as cervical mucus completely changed the way she viewed her body. Rather than relying on apps that simply predict ovulation, she discovered the power of real-time body literacy and how charting could uncover important clues about overall health and fertility. She also opens up about the surprisingly simple lifestyle changes that transformed her symptoms. By reducing toxic load, improving supplement quality, managing stress, increasing sunlight exposure, and making intentional nutrition changes, Meghan saw severe menstrual cramps resolve naturally. Her story becomes a powerful reminder that symptoms are not random—and that healing often begins with understanding the body instead of fighting against it. Together, we discuss: Why severe cramps and hormonal symptoms should never be dismissed as “normal” The difference between ovulation prediction and true cycle charting How stress, environment, and lifestyle influence hormones The gaps in conventional healthcare education around women’s health Why person-centered care matters now more than ever The emotional and spiritual dimensions of healing A hopeful and empowering perspective on perimenopause This conversation is especially meaningful for nurses, healthcare workers, and women who feel disconnected from their bodies or frustrated by symptom-based care. Meghan offers a refreshing vision of healthcare that honors the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. Whether you are navigating fertility struggles, hormone symptoms, burnout in healthcare, or simply wanting to understand your body more deeply, this episode will leave you feeling informed, encouraged, and empowered. S6 Ep 41: The Impact of Birth Control Can Be Life Changing, Learn How
2026/07/01
When “Normal” Isn’t Safe: Chelsey Painter Davis on Advocacy, Risk, and Real Informed Consent In this powerful and deeply personal episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, we sit down with Chelsey Painter Davis to hear her story, one that challenges assumptions about “routine” medical care and underscores the life-changing importance of informed consent. At just 18 years old, Chelsey was prescribed hormonal birth control without a full conversation about risks or alternative options. What followed was a series of devastating complications, including a pulmonary embolism and pseudotumor cerebri, ultimately leading to permanent vision loss. Later, she discovered underlying blood clotting disorders—Factor V and Factor II—that had gone undiagnosed. Chelsey’s journey didn’t end there. During a later pregnancy, she was encouraged to undergo amniocentesis, until she asked deeper questions and uncovered that the recommendation was tied to abortion planning, not medical necessity. She declined, and her son was born healthy. S6 Ep 39: Restoring Fertility with Key Lifestyle Changes with Dr. Sarah Pederson
2026/06/17
In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Sarah Pederson, a holistic OBGYN and founder of Vera Health and Fertility, to explore a refreshing and deeply restorative approach to women’s health and fertility. After years in traditional obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Pederson recognized a gap in care, one that often prioritizes symptom management over true healing. That realization led her to build a practice centered on identifying and addressing root causes, helping women restore hormone balance and optimize fertility naturally. Together, we dive into the foundational role of nutrition, the power of continuous glucose monitoring, and the often-overlooked connection between gut health and reproductive function. This conversation challenges conventional fertility approaches and offers a hopeful, science-backed path forward for women seeking to understand their bodies more deeply. Dr. Pederson’s journey from conventional OBGYN to holistic care Why a root-cause approach is essential for hormone balance and fertility The “Six Pillars” of hormone health: diet, sleep, exercise, stress, weight, and mindset/spirituality How nutrition, especially protein intake and breakfast timing, impacts hormones The hidden effects of sugar and artificial sweeteners on inflammation and fertility How Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) provide personalized insights into metabolic health The connection between gut health and reproductive function A look into Restorative Reproductive Medicine and how it differs from conventional fertility treatments Key Takeaways 1. Fertility starts with foundational health Dr. Pederson emphasizes that true hormone balance begins with lifestyle: what we eat, how we sleep, how we manage stress, and how we care for our bodies as a whole. 2. Food is powerful data Using tools like CGMs allows women to see in real-time how their body responds to certain foods empowering personalized, effective changes. 3. Gut health matters more than you think Underlying gut dysfunction and inflammation can significantly impact fertility, and addressing these issues can lead to profound outcomes. 4. Healing over bypassing Unlike conventional approaches that may override the body’s natural processes, restorative reproductive medicine works to heal and support the body—leading to healthier pregnancies and long-term outcomes. S6 Ep 38: The Power of Basal Body Temperature: Rethinking Women’s Health
2026/06/10
In this episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, we sit down with Olivia Chasteen, Director of SymptoPro Fertility Education, to have an honest and empowering conversation about women’s health, fertility awareness, and the gap between conventional care and true root-cause solutions. So many women are handed quick fixes, band-aid solutions that often mask symptoms rather than address what’s really going on. Hormonal contraception is frequently prescribed as a way to “regulate” cycles, yet it doesn’t actually restore or regulate the body’s natural rhythms, and it comes with real side effects that can impact nearly every system in a woman’s body. Olivia shares how the SymptoPro method, a sympto-thermal approach to Natural Family Planning (NFP), offers a science-based, effective alternative that works with a woman’s body instead of against it. We explore the history and effectiveness of SymptoPro, including how it has helped couples confidently avoid pregnancy when used correctly, while also serving as a powerful tool for those trying to conceive. But this conversation goes far beyond family planning. Cycle tracking is a window into a woman’s overall health. Whether married, single, trying to conceive, or simply wanting to understand her body better, charting can reveal valuable insights from hormonal imbalances to thyroid concerns, luteal phase defects, and more. Olivia explains how even women with no immediate fertility goals can benefit deeply from learning to read the signs their bodies are giving them each day. We also dive into the reality that charting isn’t always straightforward—and that’s okay. If your charts feel confusing or inconsistent, it doesn’t mean your body is broken. It means there’s more to uncover. Olivia walks through practical troubleshooting strategies and emphasizes the importance of individualized support and education. In a culture that often paints the female body as inconvenient or flawed, true healing begins when we learn to understand and respect what our bodies are communicating. There is real support. There are real answers. And there is real beauty in understanding your fertility. What the SymptoPro method is and how long it’s been helping women and couples How effective SymptoPro is for avoiding pregnancy when used correctly How it supports couples trying to conceive Why cycle tracking is a powerful health tool for all women, not just those planning families What your fertility chart can reveal about your overall health Practical tips for when charting feels confusing or overwhelming Why one method may not fit everyone, and how to find the right approach for you The deeper issue with “quick fix” solutions in women’s healthcare Olivia also shares her work as a Certified Lactation Consultant, wellness professional, and instructor serving families in rural Wisconsin where access to fertility education and medical support can be limited, yet deeply needed. S6 Ep 37: The Right to Know Your Cycle: Empowering Women Through Cycle Awareness
2026/06/03
In this episode, Teresa sits down with Myah Jenae, founder of Right to Know, a grassroots women’s health initiative reaching college campuses across the country. At just 22, Myah is helping young women reclaim an understanding of their bodies through cycle literacy, education, and community. Myah shares her personal story of early puberty, severe period pain, and the frustration of being dismissed by healthcare providers who offered hormonal birth control as the only solution. After years of struggling, she found healing through nutrition—eliminating her pain and transforming not only her physical health, but her emotional well-being. Through her work, Myah has spoken to nearly 1,600 college-aged women in just eight weeks. She’s found a striking pattern: the vast majority have felt dismissed or minimized when bringing up concerns about their cycles. Many were made to feel that tracking their cycles was unnecessary or even silly, leading them to disconnect from their bodies. Right to Know exists to change that narrative. The initiative emphasizes both body literacy and identity, helping women understand that painful cycles are not normal and that their bodies are not broken. Myah addresses the deeper “identity lies” many women carry: the belief that suffering is simply part of being female. On campuses, Right to Know sparks conversation in bold and creative ways including signs that read “period cramps aren’t normal” and a period cramp simulator that invites men into the conversation. These encounters open the door to deeper discussions about hormone health, fertility awareness, and alternatives to hormonal birth control. But the mission goes beyond symptom relief. Myah explains how healing her cycle unlocked joy, energy, and the ability to connect more deeply with others. What began as physical healing became a profound emotional transformation. At the heart of Right to Know is community. Their “Big Sister” program equips women to walk alongside others with compassion and clarity, creating spaces where women can learn, track, and grow together. Through shared practices like prioritizing sleep, nourishment, and cycle awareness, participants experience both education and support. Myah’s message is simple but powerful: the female body is not designed for chronic pain. Instead, symptoms are signals an invitation to look deeper and restore balance. Teresa closes the episode with a call to action: share this message. Whether you’re a young woman navigating your own cycle or someone who wishes you had learned this earlier, you have the ability to pass this knowledge on. Change begins with awareness and with the courage to start the conversation.
