Many people think of Nepal as where one goes to hike or climb Mt Everest but it is much more. As you will learn when you join me in Kathmandu visiting Seven Women Project, take a tour through Chitwan National Park and discover a world of Rhino's. 

Bordering the Mekong River and the Khan River sits the small village of Luang Prabang.  This timeless city of temples and monks is the spiritual centre of Laos.  Saffron clad monks, stunning river views and a royal history make this city one worth a visit.

A brief visit to this wonderful country that sadly is having so many issues politically at the moment.  Here I journey to some of the main sights around the country. I hope you enjoy.

Bhutan a small country tucked between China and India that measures life by Gross National Happiness.  A country that strikes a balance between material and mental wellbeing and hence often referred to as the Happiest Place on Earth in South East Asia.  Opening to tourism in 1974 people come to visit and climb to the Tigers Nest Monastery perched high upon the side of a cliff. However there are many other wonderful reasons to visit Bhutan. 

Morocco is a gateway to Africa and a country of dizzying diversity. Here you'll find the epic Atlas mountain ranges, ancient cities, sweeping deserts – and warm hospitality.  After one visit I fell in love with the country and the people of Morocco. The food is delicious and ancient souks will have you lost in no time but not without a bag of treasures to take home.

Founded in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ram Das, Amritsar is home to the spectacular Golden Temple, Sikhism's holiest shrine and one of India’s most serene and humbling sights.  The busy streets surrounding the temple have been calmed to some extent by recent urban landscaping, including graceful pedestrianised walkways, but duck into any side alley and you’ll soon discover Amritsar’s fantastically frenetic old-city bazaars, sheltering a sensory overload of sights, sounds and smells.  One of my favourite cities to visit and a contrast to many other cities and states.

Enjoy the mountain railways of India as you visit the northern hillside cities of India with Himalayan backdrops and tea plantations. Travel on steam trains and toy trains.  North India is a pure delight to mountain lovers and adventure enthusiasts. There are plenty of picturesque, popular, and off-the-wall hill stations nestled in the Himalayas that make for beautiful holiday choice. All of them are so spectacular and offer something unique that it gets tough to choose one from the list of gorgeous places to visit in north India. I have covered a few of my favourites here so pour yourself a cup of tea and join me on a journey into Northern India. 

Mumbai is big and bold. If Mumbai is your introduction to India, prepare yourself. The city isn’t a threatening place but its furious energy, limited public transport and punishing pollution make it challenging for visitors. The heart of the city contains some of the grandest colonial-era architecture on the planet, but explore a little more and you’ll uncover unique bazaars, hidden temples, hip  restaurants and nightlife. It is also home to Bollywood so get your dancing shoes on for this city.

Known as the ‘City of Joy’, Kolkata holds an important place in the economy, politics and culture of India. The capital of West Bengal, Kolkata is one of the four metropolitan cities in India and has retained its quintessential charm despite modernization. ‘What Bengal thought today, India thought tomorrow’, is a famous line associated with the city for having produced some of the greatest thinkers, artists, film makers and writers like Rabindranth Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and Satyajit Ray. Indeed, ideas in Kolkata in the fields of art, literature, cinema and theatre have provided inspiration to rest of the country. Earlier known as Calcutta, the city was founded in 1698 and served as the capital of British India till 1911 and then was shifted to Delhi. The city was renamed, Kolkata in 2001. 

Varanasi, the holy city of India, is also known by the name of Benaras. Varanasi is the most popular pilgrimage point for the Hindus. One of the seven holiest cities, Varanasi city is also one the Shakti Peethas and one of the twelve Jyotir Linga sites in India. In Hinduism it is believed that those who die and are cremated here get an instant gateway to liberation from the cycle of births and re-births. Considered as the abode of Lord Shiva, Varanasi is situated on the banks of River Ganges, which is believed to have the power of washing away all of one's sins.  Varanasi is the oldest city of the world. Varanasi is more than 3000 years old and is famous as the city of temples. In Varanasi, there are temples at every few paces. Looking at the number of temples in Varanasi, it is hard to believe that a large number of them were demolished during the medieval times.  The Ganga Ghats (river front) are the most popular pilgrimage spot of Varanasi and are centres of music and learning.

The Golden Triangle is the first stop for many people on their journey to India. Why? The Taj Mahal. This iconic site is a bucket list must do for so many people and I totally get it. The first of my Indian series it is also the longest as we travel to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The Golden triangle has so much to offer and each city has its own jewels waiting to be discovered. Come with me on this journey as I take you to some hidden treasures that I have discovered over the last 12 years. Taking tours for the last 12 years to India has not dulled my pleasure of this area and every visit to the Taj Mahal offers something new to discover.  In this series I will take you all over India exploring Mumbai in the South, The Hillside Stations in the North, The Tea areas, The golden Temple in Amritsar and discover the Ganges in Varanasi and Kolkata.
