EPISODE 151: Rachel Flowers is recognized worldwide as a multi-instrumentalist and composer whose music encompasses multiple genres. She first gained recognition for her talent as a young child and has been admired and mentored by those at the top of their field: Greg Lake, Keith Emerson, Dweezil Zappa, Conductor Terje Mikkelson, and a series of jazz greats, most notably Herbie Hancock. As a teenager she won numerous awards as a pianist and flutist, and has matured to perform and record on the global stage. The award winning documentary “Hearing Is Believing” was produced about her unusual life and talents. Rachel continues to defy expectations by refusing to be pigeonholed by genre or by instrument. Her classical piano training started when she was only 4 years old. At 9 she discovered jazz and was immediately transfixed by the music of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Ella Fitzgerald. Always an avid listener of rock and pop radio, around that same time her attention was grabbed by the keyboard playing of Keith Emerson of the band Emerson Lake and Palmer. EPISODE 150: Martina Radwan, a German-Syrian, is an award winning director and cinematographer. After moving to New York City in the mid 90’s, she DP’ed several fiction films before she developed a deep interest in documentaries. Her love for verité and observational story telling makes her one of the most sought after cinematographers. Understanding the power of images and filmmaking, Martina goes beyond the surface and often shines a light on those who are overlooked. Continuing to push her own boundaries she started to direct. After two award winning shorts, Martina directed TOMORROW, TOMORROW, TOMORROW , which premiered on DOC NYC in 2023. In 2026, she directed ONE LAST ADVENTURE: THE MAKING OF STRANGER THINGS 5, an intimate, on the ground look at Matt & Ross Duffer final season of their long lasting hit show on Netflix. For her DP work, she received an Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program for her DP work on GIRLS STATE in 2024. EPISODE 149: NYC-based Jane Getter is a “triple-threat” (Geoff Wilbur)—guitarist, singer, ASCAP award-winning and NYSCA commissioned composer. Getter’s 2026 7D Media release, Transmogrify, coalesces a lifetime of musical exploration into intricate arrangements, powerful playing, and killer solos. Getter has been shredding boundaries since picking up a guitar at age eight and recently won the number 8 slot for best guitarist in Prog Magazine’s 2021 readers poll. She cites musical influences Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson, Porcupine Tree and guitar influences Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, and Wes Montgomery. On her first tour, with legendary jazz/blues organist Brother Jack McDuff, Getter’s musical language expanded to embrace the groove-oriented music that she saw thrilling audiences. EPISODE 147: Johnny Manchild And The Poor Bastards’ new album, SIDE EFFECTS, is due out on July 24th and is produced, engineered, mixed, and arranged by Johnny Manchild himself. The new release expands their sound from its solid base of alt-rock with a power pop punk influence and piano to include heavier guitars, a full horn section, and hints of industrial noise, along with rapid-fire vocals.  In support of SIDE EFFECTS, Johnny Manchild And The Poor Bastards will kick off an extensive United States tour in their hometown of Oklahoma City, OK on album release date, next Friday, July 24th. He spent fourteen years in Nashville with EMI and thirty one years in New York with BMI, retiring at the end of 2019. As Vice President of BMI’s New York creative department Feldman and his team signed Taylor Swift, Norah Jones, Gavin DeGraw, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Chris Brown, R Kelly and John Legend, to name a few. Feldman has worked closely with such songwriters as Chip Taylor, Sandy Linzer, Carole King, Gregg Allman, Nile Rodgers, Tony Joe White, Holland/Dozier/Holland, Hall & Oates, Rihanna, Full Force and Cage the Elephant. EPISODE 142: Joe Matera is an Italian-Australian musician, music journalist, and author. Over the course of his illustrious performing career, he has played guitar for famed British music legend Steve Harley, supported the likes of Canned Heat, The Animals, and Bay City Rollers in concert and earned a top five selling instrumental album on the Australian ARIA chart. He has co-written and recorded music with ABBA guitarist Janne Schaffer, as well as, legendary English pop-rock group The Korgis. EPISODE 141: The Blackbyrds were at the cutting edge of jazz fusion, R&B and funk in the 1970s, pushing the boundaries of Black popular music forward in one of the most musically fertile decades of the past century. Established by legendary jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd in 1973, the band's success includes several highly touted albums, film scores (1975's "Cornbread," "Earl and Me"), as well as supporting such iconic artists as B.B. King. Herbie Hancock, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Roberta Flack and more. The Blackbyrds’ self-titled debut album put the group on the map with "Do It, Fluid," a funky laid-back party anthem.  The group followed that initial success with a string of albums over the next five years, including FLYING START (1974), which yielded their biggest hit, the Grammy-nominated "Walking in Rhythm," and CITY LIFE (1975), which contained the hit "Happy Music" and the iconic "Rock Creek Park," which remains one of the most sampled jazz-funk tracks to this day, as well as such hits as “Supernatural Feeling,” Grammy-nominated “Unfinished Business,” “Time is Movin’,” “Dreaming About You” and “Flyin’ High,” among many others. EPISODE 140: Christine Ohlman is the long-time vocalist with the Saturday Night Live Band on NBC whose towering hair earned her the nickname “The Beehive Queen.” She is one of the queens of American Rock n’ Soul, deeply embedded in the scenes in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and New Orleans Louisiana as well as—of course—NYC.  She leads Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez, with whom she has released six CDs. EPISODE 137: Embracing a broad range of musical styles, British singer-songwriter Tasmin Archer's soulfully silky voice has graced a strong catalogue of songs with an eclectic mix of themes since the 1990s. Archer first came to public attention in 1992 with the UK chart topper and worldwide hit 'Sleeping Satellite' taken from the platinum debut album 'Great Expectations'. Three further singles from the album were top 30 hits in the UK. She received a Brit award in 1993 and was nominated in two further categories the same year. Archer also won an RSH Gold award in Germany and was nominated in the best alternative artist category for an MTV award in the US. 'Shipbuilding', an EP of four Elvis Costello covers, was released in early 1994 and was followed in 1996 by the more introspective, critically acclaimed album 'Bloom'.
