Ep 146: Facing Trauma, Starting Over, And Uncollapsible Soul with Mike Noriega and Bianca Juarez Olthoff
2024/02/26
How can faith help you heal from trauma and rebuild your life? What are some of the benefits of grieving and reframing pain after a collapse? My guest today is my friend Mike Noriega who shares his experience of starting over after facing trauma. Mike shares his story of the collapse of a building in Surfside, Florida, which resulted in the loss of his grandmother.  He discusses the concept of: What is an uncollapsible soul Finding comfort and strength in faith during this difficult time.  Mike opens up about the collapse of his marriage and the healing process he went through. He emphasizes the importance of grief, community, and reframing pain in the journey of rebuilding after a collapse. Let Mike and I know how you are navigating difficult times by tagging us @biancaolthoff and @themikenoriega  Love, B RESOURCES/LINKS Guest Mike Noriega Book: Uncollapsable Soul: How Do You Endure a Broken Heart Without Crushing Your Spirit?”  Website: uncollapsablesoul.com  Quote When you can go through things that will break your heart, but not allow them to break your spirit, when you don't allow something to go from being a life season to a life sentence, that's how you make your soul uncollapsible. Takeaways Facing trauma and starting over requires strength and faith. An uncollapsible soul is one that can endure pain and loss without losing hope or purpose. Grief and healing are essential steps in the process of rebuilding after a collapse. 2024/02/19
Are you drawn to underdog stories like I am? Have you ever witnessed ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances and rise to the occasion?  You don’t want to miss out on this episode where I talk to Andy Erwin, producer of the film Ordinary Angels, about the uplifting and emotional film based on this true story. This is a story of a hairdresser who becomes a hero and a friend to a widowed father and his two daughters. Andrew and I discuss: The shift in faith-based films The impact of telling authentic stories The criticism and challenges faced by Christian films  Friends, we get the scoop on the story behind the film Ordinary Angels and how it came to be. Andrew tells us about the involvement of Dave Matthews and John Berg in championing the project. He also touches on the message of the film, which focuses on finding purpose and the church as a place of hope.  I love to see excellence portrayed in faith-based films. That’s why I loved watching Ordinary Angels in theaters, and I hope you go watch it too! If you've seen the film, head on over to Instagram and let’s show Andrew some love. Ep 144: How To Say Goodbye // Draw The Line Series with Bianca Juarez Olthoff
2024/02/15
Are there things in your life today that don’t align with your vision of tomorrow? What do you need to leave behind as you move forward into the future that God has for you?  It’s hard to let go of things. Trust me, I know. It is important to realize that in order for us to experience personal growth and find spiritual success, we need to have necessary endings in our lives.  Boundaries are necessary, and so are endings. That’s why today we will explore: The need to manage expectations and investments in our relationships The concept of pruning and setting boundaries The emotional epidemic of entitlement The dangers of enabling others If there is a relationship or a situation that is holding you back from reaching your best self, it’s time to let it go. Trust God and His plan for your life. Ep 143: How To Have Sexual Boundaries // Draw The Line Series with Bianca Juarez Olthoff
2024/02/14
Do you find it hard to make sense of the different views on sex in culture? Is it time for you to reevaluate your view of sex? Join me on today’s episode to have an open and honest conversation on… sex. Society keeps sending mixed signals on what sex is all about. I want us to discuss the topic of sexual boundaries but from a Biblical perspective. It's high time we redeem the narrative that the enemy has stolen from us! That is why we will explore:  God's original, good, and divine design for sex  Biblical view of sex vs. Cultural view Freedom from sexual shame  We all need practical handles on sexual boundaries in marriage and for singles. Because of that, I’m highlighting the importance of respect, communication, accountability, and non-sexual intimacy.  Sex was God's idea! He intended it for our good. Don’t let the enemy steal that from you. I want you to know that whatever has happened in your life, you can find forgiveness through Jesus and develop a personal intimate relationship with Him. If you found this topic helpful, let me know by tagging me @biancaolthoff  Love you friend, B RESOURCES/LINKS Boundaries in Sex // Boundary Lines // Bianca Olthoff Quote I don't want social media. I don't want pop culture. I don't want the ivory tower of academia to define what sex is. No. Sex was God's idea. Takeaways Sexual boundaries are for our benefit and not a burden. Open and honest conversations about sex are necessary in order to break free from shame and cultural narratives. In marriage, it is important to have regular communication about sexual expectations and desires. For singles, setting personal boundaries and seeking accountability are key to maintaining purity. Sex does not guarantee intimacy, and true intimacy is built on emotional and verbal communion. ⋇ Convoy of Hope - Empowering Women and Girls Together Donate here ⋇ Order Bianca’s new book GRIT DON’T QUIT ⋇ The Grit Don’t Quit Bible Study is now available. ⋇ So grateful to our sponsors! This episode is sponsored by NOTES® Candle. I want to emphasize: The importance of community and relationships The need for boundaries in friendships  The challenges that come with maintaining healthy relationships The different levels of friendships Friendship is not codependency In some cases we can find ourselves looking at our friends and thinking; “what the heck?” That’s because we don’t have a clear definition of what “friend" means and we’ve given access to the wrong people into our friendship circles. Ep 135: Day 3 - The Weighting Game Series with Leslie Schilling and Bianca Juarez Olthoff
2024/01/17
Are you aware of diet culture infiltrating safe spaces like school or church? Everyone is on a journey of their own. I want to make sure that as we talk about the impact of diet culture in the church, that we do it from a place of love, kindness, grace, health, and healing. I believe that we can have meaningful conversations around the topic of weight by: Being receptive to the needs of others Extending grace and not shaming or judging others Considering everyone’s individual circumstances Friends, as you continue to walk with God, remember that He is compassionate and gracious. Ask Him to guide you as you grow in relationship with Him and learn to separate yourself from diet culture. Food is a gift from God!  Tag me @biancaolthoff and @leslieschilling and let us know how this conversation has transformed your mindset around food. Love, B RESOURCES/LINKS Guest Leslie Schilling: https://www.leslieschilling.com/  Book: Feed Yourself: Step Away from the Lies of Diet Culture and into Your Divine Design  IG: https://www.instagram.com/leslieschilling/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/NutritionLeslie  Quote Is it really biblical to be chasing a number on the scale? Takeaways Diet culture has infiltrated the church and made it an unsafe place for discussions about body image and health. The 'body as a temple' verse has been misused to shame and judge others based on their appearance. Fasting can be practiced in a healthy and holy way, but it is important to consider individual circumstances and avoid harmful behaviors. Alternative fasting options, such as abstaining from social media or comparison, can be just as meaningful and impactful. Self-discipline should be redefined as honoring hunger and taking care of our bodies, rather than pursuing a specific body size. Toxic detoxes should be avoided, and emotional eating should be addressed with the help of therapy or other forms of support. ⋇ Convoy of Hope - Empowering Women and Girls Together Donate here ⋇ Order Bianca’s new book GRIT DON’T QUIT ⋇ The Grit Don’t Quit Bible Study is now available.
