So, because we are called Sticky Jazz, we are happy to have on the show this week the fantastic female jazz vocalist Andy James. She is an Australian born Jazz singer, and flamenco dancer, who migrated to the US via Madrid Spain. She just released an album "Architect of My Blues", it is a jazz album inspired by the late Ray Charles, where his influence is all over in this collection of songs. Andy James' musical collaborations with other artists are notable artists, are just fantastic. She came across as pretty shy, but her voice is bold, and she really delivers, especially as we talked about her "Last song" at concerts. Everyone remembers "Unbelievable" by EMF in the early 90s, they were at the forefront of the electro hip hop rock shift that just "happened" out of nowhere, with funky hats, hairstyles and synth pushing rock into new genres. Bands like EMF were getting play everywhere, along with Jesus Jones, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Farm, this was a new take on alternative music that captured the zeitgeist of the time, the music captured the feel, and the anxiety and new freedom in the post cold war world. I covered their gig in Salt Lake City over the summer with a band "Ecce Shnak" in tow, and had a quick chat with both bands. EMF was out having fun, and giving us new material, of an album they had released in 2024 "The Beauty and The Chaos". The gig was fantastic, and they played some new material from the EP they just released in November 2025, called "Reach For Something Higher". I got to chat with Ian Dench the guitarist while he drove around London, we talked about some fun history of the band and their music, Motorhead, and James Atkin's love of football jerseys. On this new EP there is a wonderful song that EMF recorded with Ecce Shnak called "LGBTQ+ LOVER". I filmed it during the soundcheck and it was incredible. This song gives the message that all are loved in "Gods' great plan", and showcases the mega talent of both bands. Yeah they are both that great. The FIRST all format episode on Spotify, Youtube, etc. The Psychedelic Furs have been a staple in my musical diet for close to 40 years. I first met the guitarist John Ashton in 1992, then over the years at more gigs than I can count (*Really, it was all a blur). John is one of those guitar gods, who has written some of the best musical compositions in the New Wave genre, so many of them have gone down in history. In this conversation, John told so many rich stories of the Rock & Roll Circus, many of which I was there when these moments occurred. A lot of which, though funny, (Spinal Tap like funny) they were not to be spoken of in this interview. John has released a total gem of an album with his solo side project "Satellite Paradiso" which is a supergroup of his friends, borrowing Gail Ann Dorsey from Bowie, half of the personnel from the Psychedelic Furs, and on vocals Fred Schreck from "Ancients". This album has so many powerful songs on it, with an all star cast playing. One that everyone who listened to New Wave over the last 40 years should just dive into. She has had projects "Niyaz" as her world music project, then "VAS", she is releasing (in two days) her latest album "Synesthesia", a follow up to her album "Phantoms" in 2019. Hailing from Milwaukee Wisconsin, Mark Waldoch of The Hallelujah Ward have this ability to release music that takes so many pieces of what we all grew up listening to. I mentioned one of his songs had "a great deal of "The Wedding Present " in it, " and Mark's response was "Yeah, but Dave Gedge isn't coming to me for any money." We talked about the songwriting, Polka, the Wisconsin music culture, and everything else you could imagine. Mark was even once the guitar tech for Peter Hook for a single gig. No task is too small, nothing seems out of reach for the music they want to make, The Hallelujah Ward makes music for the love of making music. A very deep, and enigmatic singer, Lily DeTaeye has been carving out her piece of the music industry with some very distinctive folkish sound songs, then turned "Dream Pop" as of late. A transplant from Des Moines Iowa to New York City, she is still an ambassador for the music scene in the midwest. She has just released a few singles prepping for the live album at Iowa PBS studio 3. (Link will be below). She is a prolific songwriter in her own right, taking on the "one song a day" challenge every November, which makes her love, and dread the month, almost as much as I do. We discussed her lyrics, where they came from, or didn't cause many she can't remember. Working in a music hall that touring artists would rather not be there, also appears in her songs. P.I.N.E.S. is the new project of Josh Hight, a motorcity born musician, who conducted this interview late night from his home near Brighton England. He was previously in the early 2000's post punk band "The Detachment Project", which showcased his musical prowess, just impressive there. They have just released a very moving ethereal EP called "In His Wake", just 4 songs that have a similar undercurrent to them, but each song takes you from an ambient sound of the PNW, to the Fjords of Norway, somehow. He used some Brian Eno in there of silence as an instrument. We even sort of geeked out about that "Absence" of sound loaded up into the tracks. That is enough of a reason to listen to this EP. He worked with Richard Norris of the 90s electronica band "The Grid", which I was already a fan of, and heard some of it this one. Jah Wobble is the original bassist for P.I.L. and has played in so many projects since then, you have probably heard him on some album on bass, not knowing it was him. He was given his name by Sid Vicious, and it stuck. One of the longest lasting punk artists who has gone into the world music genre, he has such trademark bass lines you can tell any of his band's "Deep Space" or "Invaders Of The Heart" or even on Sinead O'Connor's best selling album. Wobble has just released another solo album called "Jah Wobble Dub Volume 1", where he tells some stories without words, but so much feeling, a true crafts man. We talked about his music over the last 38 years since I discovered his work with The Edge from U2 in late 1987. I have been a sucker for weird "World Music" the clashing of cultural sounds, and finding ways to weave the spirited folk music of people into completely different culture's music. When it is done right, there is something absolutely wonderful that comes from it, where the music takes you where it want's to go. I got to interview Charlie and John of Tian Qyiy, and that is exactly what I found with their music. Veteran rock journalist, and biopic author Marc Shaprio has written 90+ books about musicans, actors, and even a couple sci fi comic books with Julie Newmar.I have read plenty about The Beatles, I know people who were there, and told me stories I had never heard from any other source. Well, this time Marc Shapiro lays out with incredible detail a chronological story of the lives of The Beatles, by telling the stories about their wives. Ty Herndon is the first openly gay country music singer. I met him at Loveloud in 2019, and we have been friends ever since. He just sunsetted his passion project "Love and Acceptance" which was a music festival in Nashville celebrating the LGBTQ community in a city that is not as friendly to the cause as others.
