Original Air Date: 2/5/2024 On this week's "Held Back" we're taking you back to 2024 and the Season 8 premier of SlashU. We covered "Laid to Rest" from 2009. It was an amazing discovery for us because we'd never seen a villain like Chromeskull before. And we covered the sequel too. This one comes up in conversation every once in awhile because we really were hoping for a part 3. Maybe it'll happen, maybe not. It's fun to imagine though. This week we're discussing a smash hit from 2014 called "Varsity Blood." Since it's Spooky Season, and football season, we found a movie that hits both! It's the story of a group of cheerleaders and football players hiding from their past mistake from a year ago. When new girl Hannah comes to town, the past seems to catch up with the group and they spend the movie hiding from a killer dressed as their high school mascot. A tale as old as time. Original Air Date: 8/12/2024 On this week's throwback we're bringing you our course on "Murdercise" from 2023. It's the story of a home workout video gone wrong. The group trying to film the video falls pray to a killer and some terrible acting/dialogue. And it was all shot in an abandoned tax office or something. We had a blast talking about it and now we invite you along to re-take our course. Enjoy the show and tell a friend! This week we covered a fresh one, from 2026 we bring you "Nameless." It's the story of a group of hikers out in the deserts of Las Vegas. They gather to honor their missing friend Alex. But when a killer stalking the desert with a burlap sack over his head who goes by "Nameless" threatens the hike, the group finds out maybe their friend isn't so missing after all. Also, the whole movie is a flashback story. Also we kind of got lost on some of the details. Listen, rate the show, tell a friend and enjoy! Original Air Date: 5/9/2022 This week's "Held Back" episode invites you to re-take our course on "Hatchet 3" from 2013. It's the continuing saga of poor Victor Crowley just trying to lead a peaceful cursed existence in Honey Island Swamp. The only problem is that he has to deal with an entire tactical SWAT team storming the swamp this time around. (Sigh) will Victor ever just get to chill out and look for his daddy in peace? Original Air Date: 2/21/2022 On this week's "Held Back" we're jumping to 1990 for "Skinned Alive" all the way from Season 4 of SlashU. This one was fun because it's a whole family of weirdo slashers doing the slashing. And they're driving around in a rad van! You know how much we love those. Enjoy this throwback and we'll see you with a new episode soon! Time for another new SlashU! This week we covered a fresh release from 2026 it's "Deathwoods." It's the story of Scott and his friends trying to break him out of a post-breakup slump by going camping! But the woods are stalked by a killer in a really cool faceless mask. Also, they never really explain why Scott's girlfriend left him. Also there's a tangled web of ex-lovers and cheating in this friend group. Also they didn't bring nearly enough beer. Original Air Date: 4/5/2021 On this week's "Held Back" we're repeating our course on 1976's "Drive-In Massacre." Since it's been a little while since we've covered one from the 70s on New SlashU, we think it's important to remember the stuff made in the 70s and 80s as well. Enjoy our repeat course about a slasher stalking the drive-in movie theater. If you don't know what one of those is, Google it. Tell a friend, rate the show, and enjoy! This week we covered "Big Baby" from 2025. It's the story of horror screenwriter Adam Lewis as he struggles to come up with a new script. When he has a dream about a killer dressed as a giant baby, Adam thinks he's hit slasher movie gold! But the line between idea and reality starts to get blurred as it seems like Adam's script is coming to life. Big Baby threatens to bring Adam's whole world crumbling down all in the name of a new slasher movie franchise. This one even has a couple podcasters in it! We've made it to Season 13 of SlashU. As we begin our 6th year of the podcast we jumped back to 1990 to take a look at "Blood Games." This one did not follow the traditional slasher formula. It's more like "A League of Their Own" meets "Deliverance" or "Rambo." When a team of female baseball players beats a team of redneck sore losers, they end up on the run through the forest fighting for their lives. Guys, it was just a baseball game! Original Air Date: 3/11/2024 On this week's throwback episode we're revisiting a favorite here at SlashU. It's a unique documentary-style slasher movie from 2006 called "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon." We loved it because it was a fresh take on the slasher genre. A documentary crew follows around an aspiring slasher by the name of Leslie Vernon while he tries to make a name for himself. But there's a twist. There's always a twist. This one is great and we're looking forward to a rumored sequel. Listen, tell your friends, and rate the show! Original Air Date: 10/14/2024 On another "Held Back" we're taking you back to Season 9 of SlashU, episode 152 where we covered "Creep Van" from 2012. It's a cautionary tale about how you should be really careful if you ever buy a van on Craigslist or some other roadside 'for sale' sign. Take a walk down memory lane with us and enjoy this blast from the past. We'll be back with new episodes soon.
