Stub Me Down Podcast is back for Season 7! SMD was the official podcast of Oktoberfest at The Vortex, a new venue in Catonsville, MD, and we kick things off with a really cool conversation with Ricky James and Rob Compa from Neighbor, a Boston band making a lot of noise in the jam scene! Skinny and JW chatted with Ricky and Rob about their complimentary playing style, creating setlists, and choosing covers. Their music is entertaining and they bring an upbeat vibe to the stage, and we were so grateful for a few minutes of their time! Stub Me Down Podcast is live on location! As the official podcast of Oktoberfest at The Vortex, JW and Skinny had the chance to talk to each of the bands in the lineup. The day kicked off, as any jamband festival should, with some good ole’ Grateful Dead. The Wharf Rats Live filled the opening frame, and Skinny spoke with Eric “Dawg” Metzman about their sound, channeling the Grateful Dead, and the difference between indoor and outdoor performances. Stub Me Down live on location! Oktoberfest at The Vortex, a new outdoor venue in Catonsville, Maryland, included some rather talented fresh young acts, including Runner & Bobby, a four-piece from Chicago with an indie vibe. Not quite in the jamband realm, Runner & Bobby drew some improvisational inspiration from the other acts and filled a tough spot in between Neighbor and Dogs in a Pile. Following a hilarious part 1 of our conversation with TV writer Nate Federman, the fellas get to the stub down, an emotional night at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Nate shares how his feelings shift over the course of this show as he pondered the clinging of fans to musicians, and musicians to music. Skinny and JW welcome television writer (and notorious hook up for the elderly) Nate Federman to Episode 6 Season 6 of Stub Me Down Podcast. Nate shares some stories from his time in the writer’s room on The Office and has the fellas rolling on the floor as he describes his hysterical cameo on the show. Nate’s stub down takes the trio to Las Vegas for a show "that had a M Night Shyamalan level story twist in it and was easily the most emotional” he's ever been at a show. Part one of two! Kev joins Skinny and JW to talk podcasting, interviewing musicians, and pulls a stub from a diverse and interesting (according to JW about a 420 times) Grateful Dead show in 1990. Setlist choices, the role and demise of Brent Mydland, and an extended Dark Star highlight the conversation as SMD finally gets the last of the Wooks to stub us down. Thanks for listening!
