Machan Taylor on Spiritual Growth, Healing, Authenticity, and Finding Your True Self
2026/10/01
What if some of the most difficult experiences in our lives are also invitations to discover who we truly are? In this episode of the Spiritual Media Blog Podcast, I speak with Machan Taylor, a singer, songwriter, educator, and author of Naked Out Loud, about her extraordinary life journey and the spiritual lessons she has discovered along the way. Machan has lived a remarkable life. Her career as a singer has taken her around the world and included performing with legendary artists such as Pink Floyd, Sting, Foreigner, and Pat Benatar. Yet beneath the glamour and success of a career in music was a much deeper personal journey—one involving questions of identity, belonging, self-worth, trauma, healing, and the search for authenticity. Born in Japan and raised in the United States, Machan experienced the feeling of being caught between different cultures and worlds. Those early experiences became part of a much larger journey of self-discovery that would eventually lead her toward spirituality, meditation, Buddhism, chanting, yoga, and other paths of inner exploration. In this deeply personal conversation, Machan reflects on the experiences that shaped her and the process of looking within rather than continuing to run from the parts of herself that were painful. We explore the spiritual meaning of healing and personal transformation, including: The lifelong search for identity, belonging, and a sense of hom How childhood experiences can influence the way we see ourselves as adults The connection between trauma, emotional healing, and spiritual growth How music can become a form of self-expression, healing, and connection Machan's extraordinary experiences as a professional singer and performer Meditation, Buddhism, chanting, yoga, and other spiritual practices The importance of confronting rather than hiding painful parts of ourselves How altered states of consciousness, psychedelic experiences, and therapy can lead to deeper self-exploration Discovering our authentic voice and learning to live more honestly The possibility of transforming painful experiences into sources of wisdom Why spiritual growth is often a journey of remembering who we were before the world told us who we should be One of the themes that emerges from our conversation is that spiritual growth isn't necessarily about escaping our difficult experiences—it can be about becoming willing to enter more deeply into them. When we have the courage to examine our wounds, our fears, and the stories we have carried about ourselves, we may discover that there is something deeper underneath them. We may begin to see ourselves with greater compassion and recognize that our experiences, even the painful ones, can become part of our path toward greater awareness. Machan's story is ultimately a story about becoming more fully yourself. Her journey reminds us that authenticity is not something we necessarily find outside of ourselves. It can emerge when we become quiet enough to listen to our inner voice, courageous enough to face what we have avoided, and compassionate enough to accept all of who we are. For anyone interested in spirituality, spiritual awakening, personal growth, emotional healing, meditation, consciousness, authenticity, or the search for meaning, this conversation offers an intimate look at one woman's ongoing journey toward greater self-understanding and freedom. I hope Machan's story inspires you to reflect on your own journey—and perhaps to ask yourself an important question: What part of yourself is waiting to be seen, heard, and fully embraced?  For more information please visit https://www.machantaylor.com/
Connecting with Your Angels and Discovering Your Angelic Ancestry: A Conversation with Dr. Alisha Das
2026/09/17
What if you could develop a deeper connection with Angels and discover a greater sense of spiritual guidance and purpose? In this episode of Spiritual Media Blog, I speak with Dr. Alisha Das, author of "Your Angelic Ancestry", about Angels, Archangels, spiritual connection, and what she describes as our Angelic ancestry. Dr. Das is an internationally known spiritual teacher and angel expert who bridges mystical experience with grounded transformation. Her work has been featured on ABC, NBC, CBS, Coast to Coast AM, The Shift Network, HuffPost, Thrive Global, and Vogue. She is also the host of Live Your Love, a podcast featuring conversations with spiritual teachers, bestselling authors, and transformational leaders. An ordained minister with advanced degrees and training in spiritual science, spiritual psychology, and transformational coaching, Dr. Das has led more than 500 spiritual seminars worldwide. She is also known for her ability to hear and speak what she describes as an Angelic language, which she says allows her to bring forward messages from the higher realms. Connecting with Your Guardian Angels Our conversation is highly interactive. At the beginning of the podcast, Alisha leads a guided meditation designed to help you connect with your Guardian Angels, become more aware of their Presence, and open yourself to inspirational and practical guidance. She also shares different techniques for connecting with Angels and discusses the importance of remaining grounded while exploring our spiritual nature. We talk about her new book, "Your Angelic Ancestry", which invites readers to explore what she describes as their Angelic ancestry, connect with the Great Archangels, and integrate their spiritual Self into everyday life. As Alisha writes in the book: “If you feel drawn to Angels, if you long to weave the sacred into your daily life, if you sense you came here for more — this book is for you…This book will help you awaken and integrate your own Angelic nature. You’ll learn to connect with Archangels directly and intimately, discover your unique Archangelic Name, access your Angelic Ancestry, and perhaps even speak the ancient Angelic language — becoming both rooted and winged as your Spirit soars.” Whether you are already familiar with Angels or simply curious about exploring this dimension of spirituality, our conversation offers an opportunity to reflect and perhaps experience your own connection to Angels in a new and real way. Conversation with Tia Shurina, “Everything and a Happy Ending” and “Another Happy Ending: Lessons in Love, Loss, and Full-Circle Acceptance”
2026/09/11
Tia Shurina is the author of “Everything and a Happy Ending” and “Another Happy Ending: Lessons in Love, Loss, and Full-Circle Acceptance”. “Everything and a Happy Ending” is a memoir about three interconnected relationships and three special men in her life. “Another Happy Ending” shares about the journey that began for Tia just as the cover was about to close on that first book. According to the book’s summary: "Another Happy Ending" is a memoir manifesto that takes you through Tia’s trip back to a place she’d spent many mini-lives baby-stepping to leave while also chronicling her sojourn out of that uncomfortable comfort zone into a space of the unknown once again. This follow up to her first memoir holds your hand as her dad held hers from heaven. After a prayer to make it to another holy precipice both God and her father helped her to trust another leap of faith. Her devotion to his advice, hold your form, will hopefully inspire any reader struggling with disappointment or dissatisfaction in any part of their life to take a babystep into the beautiful but scary abyss. I recently had the chance to interview Tia. During our conversation, Tia shared how she learned to trust in the flow of her life and God while navigating some painful difficult life experiences, not just keep faith through the happy times. In particular, she talks with honesty and authenticity about her struggle to end her marriage, developing a relationship with another man afterwards, and how her relationship with her father and mother impacted her before and after their deaths. Tia’s vulnerability and insights are particularly helpful for anyone who is trying to better understand and move forward during challenging relationships with their partner, loved ones, or parents.
Towards the end of the interview Tia momentarily had a “brain freeze”. After the interview ended she wanted to share the following with you… After mentioning in the beginning of my talk with Matthew my brain going blank sometimes, of course it had to happen! I’m just grateful I made it almost to the end before that moment! And as I knew would be the case, it did in fact pop right back into my mind after he turned off the recording and I finished the thought with him privately. He has graciously indulged me by allowing me to share it here and now... When he mentions both the beauty and the pain of life my mind immediately moved to one of my favorite words, beautyfull. Finding the beauty and the blessings in all of life, including the painful parts, held such an important key for me in my relationships that along the way I started spelling it the way I do now to remind me.  Life’s challenging moments can make it difficult to remember that and it has become an important way for me to circle back to that truth when I’m struggling so I can move through them. When I began focusing on all the goodness my then husband and I brought to each others' lives, rather than beating my own self up, or Larry at times, for feeling a failure for any perceived wrongs or mistakes it was then I was able to embrace the many blessings held within my marriage. It is ultimately how I really truly honor my relationship with my ex-husband, each of my parents, both my boys, and as well the man I fell in love with. It was and remains, ALL beautyfull, even when there is pain, even amidst any difficulty, even through the disappointments and sadnesses life sometimes delivers to our door. It can certainly be challenging at times to see beauty when we are not feeling very pretty, or during times that can feel ugly, or to be able to uncover the gems in our dark moments. I wrote about the significance that spell change held for me personally, yet this was ultimately cut from what had become a very long manuscript to make it possible for the reader to move through my journey with me without having to take the actual length of time it took me. But so profoundly helpful has it been that I asked Matthew if I could finish my thought and share it in this email. I thank each and every one again, for watching and listening. Wishing you all happy endings, always.  P.S. I’m well aware of the profound significance for our country of the date this email is coming from Matthew. But since it held such importance to my own personal story, holding a holy lesson for me as I watched my husband, a NYC firefighter, jump on his bike to head into the city that morning, becoming a powerful turning point in my life and spending the year that followed writing some ‘words left unsaid’ letters to some special people in my life that I had been reminded could be gone in a split second, I asked Matthew if he would accommodate my request. In about two weeks it will be the one year anniversary of the publishing of "Another Happy Ending", another important date. While taking a much needed break from my own story so to speak, and allowing myself a much needed rest in the months after it published I was reminded over and again of life’s fragility, its sacredness…and of course its ordinary, and extraordinary beauty.
