The ghost child named Sam: An imaginary friend or a real spirit? One of the most intriguing parts of Holly's story begins when her young daughter, Kate, develops an imaginary friend named Sam. At first, the family assumes Sam is simply part of a child's vivid imagination. But Kate's stories become increasingly detailed and unsettling. Kate describes Sam as a boy who died in a fire, along with his mother. Then the family uncovers evidence of an old fire in the remains of a cottage that once stood on the neighboring property. The coincidences become even harder to dismiss when a houseguest reports seeing a boy ghost wearing overalls and pulling at the bedcovers during the night. When Holly compares the visitor's description with Kate's drawings of Sam, the resemblance is remarkable. Could Kate have been communicating with a spirit connected to the property's past? Was Sam an imaginary friend, a childhood mystery, or something much more extraordinary? A Transparent Man, A Freezing Bedroom, And Unexplained Paranormal Activity! The encounters don't stop with Sam. Holly recounts a frightening experience in which she sees a transparent man wearing a morning coat and top hat walk directly into Kate's bedroom. The family cat reacts in a way that adds to the unsettling atmosphere, and Holly discovers that her daughter's room is inexplicably freezing. There are other strange occurrences, too. While working alone in the house, Holly repeatedly hears what sounds like her husband coughing and stomping around in another part of the building. She stops recording her work to ask him to be quiet, only to realize that he is away on a business trip. These experiences eventually become part of everyday life in the haunted house, leading Holly to develop an unusual approach to living with the unexplained: she talks to the spirits, acknowledges their presence, and asks them to respect the family's boundaries. Built in the late nineteenth century by William Delaney, a prominent local plasterer, the beautiful historic house contains dozens of stained-glass windows, original plasterwork, and portraits of former residents discovered in the attic. After researching the portraits, Holly and her family identify the figures as William Delaney's wife, Josephine, and their oldest daughter. A spiritually sensitive friend tells them that the house has a welcoming energy and that its resident spirits seem pleased to have a family living there. But the house has its own peculiar rules. One set of stained-glass doors refuses to open until Holly asks Josephine for permission. Even the real estate agent later encounters the same strange difficulty when trying to open the doors without asking. For Holly's family, William and Josephine gradually become familiar presences—almost like extra family members whose stories and quirks are woven into the daily life of the home.
