#101 Why Is the Government Telling Us to Stockpile? Are You Prepared for a 72-Hour Emergency? What They Said vs What's a Good Idea
2026/10/08
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! Maybe it's just me and my algorithm, but I keep seeing "get ready for 72 hours" and "the government is telling us to stockpile food." Some of it is scaremongering. Some of it is actually fairly sensible. So prepared for what? How? And why? In this episode, I look at what the UK Government has actually said, what's just the headlines, and what I think is genuinely worth doing. We cover: Why the government is saying anything at all, and how the UK compares with the EU, Sweden, Finland and othersA quick walk-through of the government's five-point adviceExtreme weather: the South Wales wildfires this summer and what El Niño could mean for food pricesLosing the power: what the Spain and Portugal blackout showed us (and what it didn't)When it's the bank that goes down: what happened when our church's bank shut its online banking for ten days, and why I think a backup account and a bit of cash matterThe AI scam you can beat with a 30-second family conversationWhere I think the advice falls short, and what I'm actually doing at homeOne thing you can do this week to be a little more preparedAnd as always, a thought on the thing that matters more than any stockpile: preparing your heart. If you haven't heard it yet, go back and listen to Episode 71, How to be prepared without being a prepper: when sausages are worth more than money. #100 Celebration Episode! Personal Finance Special with Joshua. Don't pay off your mortgage! What does it feel like when your investments earn more than you do? How do you cope when your income gets cut in half? What are some of the most under discusse
2026/09/09
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! Episode 100: The Art of Money and Communication — with Joshua This is the 100th episode of Life to the Full — and I'm genuinely proud of that. Not many podcasts make it this far, so thank you for sticking with me. To mark the milestone, I sat down with Joshua from the Art of Money and Communication podcast for a proper crossover conversation on money, mindset, and what it actually takes to build a financial life you're not anxious about. We get into: What it feels like when your investments earn more than you do: the strange psychological shift that happens once your money starts working harder than your labourCoping when your income gets cut in half: how to handle the financial and mental hit of a sudden drop in earningsWhy investing early is a life-changing decision: the long game, and why starting now beats starting "when things settle down"The value of having an actual financial plan: not just vibes and good intentionsFinally, someone who agrees with me on mortgages: Joshua and I compare notes on paying your mortgage off early, and why we both land in the same placeThe most under-discussed issues in personal finance: the stuff nobody's talking about that probably should beIf you've ever wondered how your financial pillar connects to the rest of your life, mental, relational, physical, spiritual, this one's for you. 🎙️The episode that I mention we're all playing the status game is this one... ep74 https://www.buzzsprout.com/1389190/episodes/17208369-74-you-say-you-re-against-slavery-but-you-are-a-slave If you want to have your own question answered you can DM me on Instagram @lifetothefullpodcast or email me on [email protected]. #99 Comfort is an Idol
2026/08/25
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! Episode 100 is coming! I can't wait to share that with you. I sat down with Joshua from the Art of Money and Communication podcast a couple of weeks ago and we had a good old chinwag about financial independence, the cost of living crisis, why everything keeps getting more expensive and how you can semi-retire before you turn 40. In the meantime, comfort is an idol! We all do it. "Life will be better when the kids are older." "Life will be better when I get that new job." "Life will settle down when..." It's a normal thought, and sometimes a useful one. But it's also a lie that keeps us permanently dissatisfied. In this episode, I unpack why comfort functions exactly like an idol, promising everything, delivering nothing, and quietly pulling us away from the things that actually matter: growth, community, and character. I get honest about where I've stayed in the comfortable lane with my own tutoring business, and share a hard lesson learned watching a family raise an entitled teenager. We'll dig into where comfort-seeking is costing you more than you realise, and what to do about it instead. 👋 I'm collecting emails so I can share stuff that doesn't fit in podcast episodes - things I'm reading, learning, testing out. #98 Do Cool stuff. Inspire people. It doesn't matter if it takes 13 years.
2026/07/10
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! I did something cool the other day — something I'd been trying to do for ages. And the second I pulled it off, I clocked two things worth sharing with you. This one's quick, but it's got a proper point (well, two): why doing cool stuff for its own sake tends to inspire people whether you mean it to or not, and why it genuinely doesn't matter if a goal takes you thirteen years instead of thirteen months. Muscle-ups, Ironman, and the goals you've quietly given up on. Let's dive in. 👋 I'm collecting emails so I can share stuff that doesn't fit in podcast episodes - things I'm reading, learning, testing out. #97 ATTACHMENT EXPERT Interview with Rachel Morse. How our attachment styles are formed. How can we rewire our brains?
2026/05/07
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! Any guest is special, but today I have an extra special guest on the pod. We talk about how our parenting affects our children, but also how the parenting we experienced, whether good or not so good, affects us well into adulthood. The way we form relationships as adults depends a lot on how our parents cared for us. The good news, spoiler alert, is that we can relearn behaviours and we can learn to build better, more stable relationships, whatever happened to us.  We go into rupture and repair.  I get loved up in this podcast.  👋 I'm collecting emails so I can share stuff that doesn't fit in podcast episodes - things I'm reading, learning, testing out. #96 Hold On To Your Kids: Relational health series.
2026/03/26
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! Your relationship with your kids might be the most important thing you build in your life. Grades? Good. Achievements? Great. but there's one thing that trumps it all. The relationship. This week we're diving deep into parenting and the importance of your relationship with your kids. Why it matters, how to do it well, and what Gordon Neufeld and Gabor Maté's book "Hold On to Your Kids" teaches us about being our children's compass. Sadly, kids today are increasingly attaching to their peers instead of their parents. They look to other teenagers for direction on values, identity, and how to behave. The problem is that peers are not equipped to serve as a compass. At all. In any way! It's the blind leading the blind. Your job is to be the compass point. The one they turn to for meaning, purpose, and security. Not their mates. My two daughters are poles apart (one just like me, one a complete mystery), they've both taught me about me in differenbt ways. parenting has forced me to grow in emotional capacity, and why we're really just fletchers sending arrows into the world. Plus: why your relationship with your spouse must come first, the concept of "good enough" parenting from Donald Winnicott, biblical wisdom on not exasperating your children, and practical ways to invest in your kids from Joshua Sheats. Whether you have biological children or are investing in the next generation as a spiritual parent, this episode is for you. 👋 I'm collecting emails so I can share stuff that doesn't fit in podcast episodes - things I'm reading, learning, testing out. #95 Whom you marry is the second most important decision you'll make
2026/03/19
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! The second most important decision you'll ever make is who you marry. (The first? I'll reveal that at the end.) This week we're diving into marriage—why it matters, how to choose well, and what the research actually says about living together before marriage. The data is fascinating: married people live 2.2 years longer, are twice as likely to be very happy, and recover from illness faster. But couples who live together before being engaged are 48% more likely to divorce. The timing of commitment matters. I'm making the case for marrying young (I married my wife at 22), addressing the "independent woman" narrative that's left many in their mid-30s lonely and regretting their choices, and talking about how to know if someone's "the one." Plus: the difference between sliding vs deciding, why character matters more than chemistry, and how to grow together instead of growing apart. Whether you're single and want to marry, dating, engaged, or already married, this episode will challenge how you think about the most important relationship decision you'll make. Hit me up on Instagram or email if you've got marriage stories or questions to share. 👋 I'm collecting emails so I can share stuff that doesn't fit in podcast episodes - things I'm reading, learning, testing out. #94 It Takes a Long Time to Make Old Friends. So Start Now!
2026/01/29
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! It takes a long time to make old friends. So you'd better start now. This week we're diving into friendship. What makes a good friend, how to actually see your mates more often, and why CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien met twice a week for 20 years to read their unfinished work to each other. We're covering the desire/outcome mismatch (you want to see friends more but life gets in the way), why you need friends in every decade of life, and the biblical warning about bad company corrupting good character. Plus, practical tips: stop just hanging around the park having interrupted chats. Do something together. Go karting, hiking, camping, or share a meal. Activity creates connection. Whether you've got loads of mates or struggle to make friends as an adult, this episode will challenge you to be more intentional about the relationships that might just be the most important factor in living life to the full. Send me an email with any questions, comments, overly specific criticism. #93 The Most Important Person To Love Is YOU - How to become your own best friend.
2026/01/22
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! Shwmae! Welcome to the start of our brand new series on relational health. We've covered financial health, physical health, and mental health. Now it's time to talk about the element that might matter most: our relationships. The person you spend most time with is you. You're always there. You can't escape you. You're there when you wake up, there at every meal, even the ones you eat on your own in the office. You're there when you go to the gym, when you go to work, when you go to bed. Many of us struggle with having a good relationship with ourselves (some of us don't!) so in today's episode, I look at how to get better at looking after ourselves and developing a good relationship with ourselves along with tips and unsolicited advice for people like me who's battle is more to do with over confidence and too much love for oneself! #88 How to Be Everything. The Myth of the One True Calling.
2025/12/11
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! If you’ve ever felt resistance towards people who encourage you to niche down or to just choose one thing and stick with it, this is the episode for you. Society tries to perpetuate the myth that we all have One True Calling and that once we figure out what that is, we will find true fulfilment and everything will be wonderful. As wonderful as that sounds and as great as it can be for some people who knew from the time they were 2, all they wanted to be was an accountant and now they're living the accounting dream, some of us are wired differently. Some of us don't have One True Calling. Some of us are called to more than that. Some of us are called to be fadders, multipotentialites, scanners. Some of us are called to be all the things. Let's find out How To Be Everthing. I'm collecting emails so I can share stuff that doesn't fit in podcast episodes - things I'm reading, learning, testing out. #87 The Wrong Kind of Help - Ed Moss on Living Through OCD.
2025/11/27
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now! Over the last few weeks, I've been interviewing people who have struggled with their mental health in order to get an insight into how to tackle mental health struggles.  Join in if you want. Today I sit down with my mate Ed Moss, who has struggled with debilitating OCD, which has made his life miserable at times. The constant grind of battling with your thoughts is something neither of us wish on anyone. But there is hope at the end of the tunnel. Through a combination of CBT, prayer, a supportive wife and Ed's willingness to learn and lean into discomfort, he has come through three serious bouts of OCD.  Ed and I both go to the same church so there's a bit of an assumption about church and the Christian life that is built into the conversation but it is fascinating even if you don't share our faith. If you're a disillusioned teacher who feels trapped in your job and want to make a plan to quit teaching.
