This week's guest is Kao Saechao, aka Kaotonix, as his artist and producer name goes by. Kao Saechao. Kao is a Mien-American, born in a refugee camp in Thailand. He came to the United States when he was 5 years old.  He fell in love with music and art at a young age, starting with the violin. Kao played in a folk band called Strings n Things and was also a part of an orchestra where he learned to play Bach, Beethoven, and other types of classical music. He put music aside to pursue art and school until In college at UC Davis he ventured into the world of making beats.  With no formal education, he learned to record, mix, and master everything on his own. Kaotonix is the music project that he started in 2013 and has since garnered over 2.5 million plays on Soundcloud and over 4 million plays on YouTube. It focuses on fusing his love of hip hop, pop, and electronic music. His brand is based around authenticity, DIY, independence from a label, and visually it draws art from sunsets and clouds.  Again, like always, I appreciate everyone tuning in. Christopher Kenji is an award-winning fashion model, a Top 10 West Coast Songwriting Finalist of the international NewSong Music Competition, and a San Francisco-based independent, multi-instrumentalist artist/producer who is on a mission to bring heartfelt songwriting, honest lyrics, and rock ‘n roll back into the mainstream music world. ​Kenji has done modeling work in association with internationally acclaimed fashion and commercial brands such as Dior, Amazon, etc. He has acted in commercials for AT&T, Compass, and additionally, in promo footage for the 2019 film Greener Grass featuring Saturday Night Live star, Blake Bennett. Kenji has also done commercial voice-over work, has appeared on the front covers of multiple editorial fashion magazines such as Moevir Magazine, Pump Magazine, Shuba Magazine, etc., and has walked the runway at many major fashion weeks ––some of which include: LA Fashion Week, Chicago Fashion Week (where he also performed as the lead headlining musical guest), San Francisco Fashion Week, award-winning designer, William Lei’s SS20 & SS21 Exclusive Runway Showcases and many more. ​Kenji grew up listening to hard rock and took up guitar when he was about 10 years old. On his journey, he became fascinated by traditional blues, Spanish flamenco, and percussive fingerstyle guitar which all uniquely shaped his playing. In his teenage years, he additionally taught himself drums, music production, and how to sing. With a naturally deep, raspy, bass voice type in contemporary music's male tenor-dominated market, Kenji stands out like a sore thumb but he strives to make that thumb a thumbs up. ​After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2017, Kenji then fell into a professional modeling career in 2018. In July 2020, he made his artist debut and has currently released six singles.
