Calandrian Simpson-Kemp founded Village of Mothers, a support group for grieving mothers after her 20-year-old son was shot and killed in Houston in 2013. She's a vocal advocate for the gun prevention movement. Shannon Watts started Moms Demand Action, a national movement with millions of supporters and local chapters in all 50 states. which started in response to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. She has dedicated her life and career to working on civil, human and workers’ rights issues and leads two organizations whose complementary aim is to strengthen Georgia’s democracy.

Jenna Bush Hager is a co-host of NBC’s TODAY with Hoda & Jenna and an editor-at-large for Southern Living magazine. She is the author of The New York Times bestseller Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope, which she wrote after traveling to Latin America in 2006 as an intern with UNICEF. Hager remains involved with UNICEF and is currently the chair of its Next Generation initiative, which is dedicated to reducing childhood deaths around the world. The Mamas speak to Jenna about motherhood, raising her children and her experience in the spotlight as the daughter of a former U.S. president.

We are joined this week by a Texas legend! Known as “America’s most popular populist,” Jim Hightower is a national radio commentator, writer, public speaker, and New York Times best-selling author. Hightower frequently appears on television and radio programs, bringing a hard-hitting populist viewpoint into the mass media. In addition, he works closely with the alternative media, and in all of his work he keeps his ever-ready Texas humor up front, practicing the credo of an old Yugoslavian proverb: “You can fight the gods and still have fun.”

Our delightful guest this week is Stephanie Wang-Breal, an award-winning filmmaker, commercial director and co-founder of the independent production company, Once in a Blue Films. Blowin' Up, her third feature-length film, had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2018 and was awarded the Best Documentary Feature award at the San Diego Asian Film Festival and the Society of Authors Award at the Film Des Femmes in Paris, France. She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York with her son & daughter.

Her first book The Opposite of Hate: A Field Guide to Repairing Our Humanity was published in April 2018. She often speaks as a keynote speaker at conferences about political division, hate, otherizing, diversity and identity and how we can solve the deep problems of our past and present.
