We’re hitting all the marks this week, so buckle up as the crew dives into the stories everyone is talking about! LANTERNS EPISODE 8 FINALE: DID IT STICK THE LANDING? The wait is over! We’re breaking down the season finale of DC’s Lanterns in Episode 8. Did the show successfully tie up all those loose ends, or did it leave us with even more questions? Were there unexpected twists, shocking revelations, and satisfying conclusions? We’re sharing our thoughts, reactions, theories, and everything we loved—or didn’t love—about the final chapter. If you’re a Green Lantern fan or a DC Universe enthusiast, you won’t want to miss this discussion! A24 MOVIE REVIEW: ONSLAUGHT We’re turning our attention to Onslaught, the action-horror thriller from A24 and director Adam Wingard. Starring Adria Arjona, Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Alex Pereira, Drew Starkey, and Rebecca Hall, this wild ride follows a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers that breaks loose in the desert, forcing an Army sniper to unleash hell to protect her young daughter. Does Onslaught deliver the action, thrills, and over-the-top mayhem we were hoping for? Is it another A24 winner, or does this cinematic battle miss the mark? We’re getting into the performances, story, action, and our honest opinions. If you love movie reviews, horror, action movies, and discovering what’s worth watching, join us for the breakdown! CHRISTA PIKE: NEAR-DEATH STORY—TWICE We also discuss the shocking and disturbing story of Christa Pike, who survived a botched execution attempt involving two doses of lethal injection drugs. Her case raises serious questions and opens the door to a difficult conversation about the death penalty, the justice system, and what happens when an execution goes horribly wrong. CRISTIANO RONALDO: WHY DID HE TAKE HIS BALL AND GO HOME? The world's biggest soccer stars aren't immune to controversy! We’re catching up on Cristiano Ronaldo and the latest developments behind his decision to walk away from a situation rather than play along. What happened, why did he react the way he did, and was he justified? We’re breaking it down and giving you our take on the football superstar making headlines. Then it's time to head back to Rushville as we break down Episode 6 of HBO's Lanterns! What exactly is going on in this strange little town? What secrets are still hiding beneath the surface? With the mystery surrounding Hal Jordan's death continuing to unfold, John Stewart finds himself dealing with the aftermath while the episode digs deeper into the characters, their history, and the strange events surrounding Rushville. We break down the episode, discuss the major developments, and ask the question every Lanterns fan is thinking: WHAT IS GOING ON IN RUSHVILLE?! And that's not all! This week, we're reviewing THREE movies! TONY — The new A24 film directed by Matt Johnson stars Dominic Sessa as a young Anthony Bourdain, with Emilia Jones, Leo Woodall, Stavros Halkias, and Antonio Banderas also starring. The film takes us back to 1976, following a 19-year-old Bourdain as he travels to Provincetown and finds himself working in the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen. It's a coming-of-age story about a young man who hasn't yet become the legendary chef, writer, and television personality the world would eventually know. RUN HIDE FIGHT: INFIDELS — Jonathan Majors, JC Kilcoyne, Stephen Hailo, Tyler Aser, Jason Gray-Stanford, and Kristy Swanson star in this action thriller from writer/director Kyle Rankin. With plenty of action, controversy, and political themes built into its premise, there's definitely a lot for the Nerds Talking crew to discuss. RESIDENT EVIL — Finally, we take a trip back into survival horror with director Zach Cregger's new Resident Evil. Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser star in this brand-new take on the legendary video-game franchise. The film follows Bryan, a medical courier who suddenly finds himself caught in a horrifying night of chaos and fighting for survival. Cregger's film takes the franchise in a new direction with an original story while incorporating elements inspired by the games. We kick things off with the latest entertainment news, bringing you the stories, headlines, and pop-culture happenings everyone is talking about. Then Lafayette takes the spotlight with his review of HOPE, the highly anticipated Korean sci-fi thriller from acclaimed director Na Hong-jin, the filmmaker behind The Wailing and The Chaser. Set in a remote Korean village, HOPE follows police officers and local residents who find themselves caught in a terrifying struggle after a mysterious creature appears in the mountains. HOPE became a major Korean box-office success following its July 2026 release. Next up, Carlos reviews the 2025 action-thriller The Amateur starring Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Laurence Fishburne, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, and Danny Sapani. Rami Malek plays Charlie Heller, a brilliant but introverted CIA codebreaker whose life is shattered after his wife is killed in a terrorist attack. When the agency refuses to pursue those responsible, Charlie decides to take matters into his own hands—and uses his intelligence as his greatest weapon. And then it's time to head back to Rushville! The crew breaks down Episode 5 of HBO's Lanterns, "Lights Out." What exactly is going on in this strange little town?! The mystery surrounding the Manhunter reaches a major turning point as Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) find themselves caught in an explosive confrontation. With Zoe Macon (Poorna Jagannathan) finally exposed, the battle for Rushville takes a shocking turn, leaving Hal, John, and the future of the Green Lantern mission in a very different place. 2026/08/14
Another fun-filled episode of Nerds Talking is here! Lafayette and Carlos are back with another jam-packed conversation covering the latest headlines in movies, television, sports, streaming, and all things nerdy. First up, the guys dive into the ever-changing world of DC Studios and James Gunn's new DC Universe. With several projects from the original DCU Chapter One slate being reworked, delayed, or pushed to the back burner, what does it mean for the future of the franchise? We discuss the latest developments surrounding projects including Waller and Paradise Lost, both of which have recently been deprioritized at HBO, while The Authority has also been scrapped and Booster Gold has undergone a major creative shake-up. Then it's time for your weekly entertainment news, where Lafayette and Carlos break down the biggest stories making waves across Hollywood and pop culture—with plenty of opinions, jokes, and the kind of nerdy commentary you've come to expect from Nerds Talking. The WNBA Has Entered the Chat! The WNBA is suddenly dealing with a very unusual controversy surrounding the definition of who is eligible to play in the league. Former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White have both announced plans to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft, saying they identify as women and arguing that the league's current eligibility language leaves the door open for their participation. The WNBA has since pushed back, saying there are currently no immediate eligibility issues and condemning what it describes as bad-faith efforts to exploit the issue. Lafayette and Carlos discuss the controversy, the WNBA's current rules, and the questions this bizarre situation raises about professional sports, eligibility, identity, and where the league goes from here. Movie Reviews! The guys also sit down to review The Invite, the new comedy-drama starring Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. When Joe and Angela invite their mysterious upstairs neighbors over for dinner, what begins as an attempt to reconnect their marriage quickly turns into a night full of unexpected twists, awkward moments, and escalating tension. And then it's time to head to Netflix for a little sci-fi nightmare fuel with The Last House. Directed by Louis Leterrier, the film stars Greta Lee, Wagner Moura, Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbosa. The story follows a family mysteriously sealed inside their own home, forced to survive with dwindling resources while trying to understand the ominous force keeping them trapped. Did The Invite deliver the laughs and drama? Does The Last House live up to its intriguing sci-fi premise? Lafayette and Carlos give you their completely honest—and occasionally questionable—opinions! 2026/07/17
Another fun-filled episode of Nerds Talking is here! Join Lafayette and Carlos as they bring you another week of entertainment news, movie talk, television reviews, and plenty of laughs. This week, we dive into the surprising box office struggles of Disney's upcoming live-action Moana. With a cast featuring Catherine Laga'aia as Moana, Dwayne Johnson returning as Maui, John Tui, Frankie Adams, and Rena Owen, the film seemed destined for success—but audiences don't appear to be rushing to theaters. Has Disney's live-action remake formula finally run its course? We discuss why these remakes may be losing their magic. Our old friend Joey Valentine is back behind the microphone! After returning with The Joey Valentine Show, he dedicated part of his latest episode to talking about Nerds Talking. We share our thoughts, react to the discussion, and reminisce about our long history together in podcasting. Meanwhile, the proposed Paramount/Warner Bros. deal continues to hit roadblocks. Is this blockbuster merger ever going to happen, or is it destined to become another Hollywood "what if?" We break down the latest developments and explain why we don't think this deal will ever cross the finish line. We also pull back the curtain on how Nerds Talking is made. Contrary to what some listeners might think, we don't write scripts or rehearse our conversations. Every episode is completely unscripted—we simply turn on the microphones, shoot from the hip, and let the conversation go wherever our nerdy passions take us. Finally, we review the final season of The Bear, starring Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, Matty Matheson, and Oliver Platt. Did the acclaimed series stick the landing? We discuss the emotional moments, standout performances, and whether the finale lived up to the hype. Whether you're a movie buff, TV fanatic, gaming enthusiast, or simply love great conversations about pop culture, this episode has something for everyone. Tune in for laughs, nostalgia, hot takes, and plenty of nerdy insights as Lafayette and Carlos help make your day a little more entertaining! (Wikipedia) We also dive into the explosive martial arts action film The Furious, directed by Kenji Tanigaki, starring Mo Tse, Joe Taslim, Yang Enyou, Jeeja Yanin, Brian Le, and Yayan Ruhian. After Wang Wei's daughter is kidnapped by a ruthless criminal network, his only ally is Navin, a journalist searching for his own missing wife. Together, they unleash a relentless campaign of vengeance against an army of deadly criminals. But the real question is... is it actually exciting, or is it as boring as The Raid? (Yeah... we said it.) You'll have to listen to hear our verdict! (Wikipedia) Looking for your next binge? We also discuss which television series we'd recommend to someone who has somehow gone their entire life without ever watching a TV show. If you could only recommend a handful of series to introduce someone to television, what would they be? We compare our lists and make our cases.
