My guest on this podcast is the Colombian Ambassador to Ireland, Ms Patricia Cortes Ortiz  We talk about a vast array of topics from the stereotypes of Colombia to how they are giving way to a better understanding of an incredible country with so much to offer from sustainable tourism to a rich diverse culture.   We also discuss some of the successful business and academic links that exist already between Ireland and Colombia and explore how others can follow in the footsteps of Declan Ryan of Viva Air and Dublin City University.  Ms. Patricia Cortes Ortiz Bio: Ambassador of Diplomatic and Consular Career of Colombia. Over 25 years of background and experience in the international relations area in the bilateral, multilateral, and high-level management.  At the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was General Director of America in the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs between October 2014 and July 2018, responsible for the bilateral relations of Colombia with 34 countries from the western hemisphere. Previously, she was Coordinator for United States and Canada, and the Summit of Americas between 2006 and 2009;she also served at the Sub direction of The United States and Canada desk between 1998 and 2000. Between 1995-1998 she was coordinator at the Direction of Human Resources.  She was Minister Plenipotentiary and Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Colombia in Washington D.C., between 2009 and 2014;First Secretary in the Embassy of Colombia in Venezuela between 2000 and 2006, and Viceconsul in Washington D.C.  She has a master´s degree in Contemporary International Political and Economic Analysis from the Institute for Higher Studies of Development - Universidad Externado de Colombia, with a specialization in Negotiation and International Relations in the Universidad de los Andes and she is a qualified Nutritionist-Dietitian from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.  From August 2018 to April 2019 she was Head of Mission of the First Resident Colombian Embassy in Ireland. On April 29, 2019, Ambassador Cortes Ortiz presented her credentials to the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, as Colombia´s first Resident Ambassador to Ireland.

Mark is an accomplished compliance professional with extensive experience of developing training programmes to Boards, senior management teams and governance bodies across different jurisdictions. His aim is to provide thought- provoking programmes which contain an international perspective. Before working for ICA, Mark held various senior management positions with HSBC, Standard Bank and Lloyds Banking Group. He understands the challenges faced when managing regulatory risks and is keen to help clients develop practical solutions when dealing with risk and remediation priorities. He has an international perspective having led teams in several countries and territories including the UK, Hong Kong and the Channel Islands. Mark was appointed Product Director of ICA in December 2019.

Mary Cleary is Secretary General of the Irish Computer Society and Chair of the Irish Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition. She has extensive expertise in and experience of representing the IT profession in Ireland, particularly at a European level, where she is Chair of the CEN TC 428, Digital Competences and IT Professionalism. She advises on European and national skills policy, advising the ICS CIO Forum on professionalism and Continuous Professional Development for all domains, with particular emphasis on eHealth. She holds a Master's Degree in Education, and has extensive experience of ICT professional programme design and implementation. She has worked on several national education initiatives, promoting ICT as a teaching and learning tool. She manages education outreach initiatives, as well as the professional and advocacy activities of HISI (Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland), and the delivery of a suite of national conferences annually. She is a delegate to the NSAI (National Standards Authority of Ireland) ICT SCC, and a committee member of the Irish Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN).

Lory's experience includes being a managing director with blockchain technology product company ConsenSys, where he led ConsenSys Ireland, co-led global partnerships and was part of the global leadership team. Prior to ConsenSys, Lory was a Partner with Deloitte China and a Director with Deloitte Ireland where he founded, set up and ran Deloitte’s Europe Middle East and Africa blockchain Lab. Prior to Deloitte, Lory worked as a management consultant with Accenture. He has over 14 years of consulting experience. Lory has led strategy and implementation projects for corporates and governments around the globe. With the IDA in Ireland (Industrial Development Authority), Lory was the founding member of the Ireland national blockchain initiative ‘Blockchain Ireland’. This group includes over 150 entities made up of global enterprises, universities, government entities and start-ups. Lory is a Qualified Financial Adviser, registered stockbroker, qualified product owner and scrum master and is currently (and has been for the past 13+ years) an adjunct assistant professor with the Business School in Trinity College Dublin.

Leo Clancy is a member of the Executive Committee of IDA Ireland. IDA’s mission is to attract Foreign Direct investment to Ireland, creating jobs and economic benefit for the people of Ireland. Over his six years at IDA he has worked closely with investors and with the Irish industrial and policy landscape through a major growth phase for technology companies.

Mark Little is an entrepreneur and journalist. He spent 20 years in broadcast news, as a reporter and presenter for RTE. He was the station’s first Washington Correspondent. In 2001, he won the Irish TV Journalist of the Year award for his reporting from Afghanistan. He was also anchor of the current affairs programme Prime Time. In 2010, he founded the world’s first social news agency Storyful, which was eventually sold to News Corp. He worked for Twitter, as Vice President for Media in Europe and Managing Director of its International Headquarters. In 2017, he co-founded Kinzen, which combines editorial skills and artificial intelligence to protect and promote quality information.

My guest today is Michael Conway – he is CEO of Renaissance and the driving force behind Cyber Expo Ireland. His vision is an ecosystem that facilitates enablement for the channel and protection with support for customers. With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, we talked about a vast range of topics including the Cyber Expo Ireland event on the 24th of November, which of course this year is virtual and even his passion for motor racing.
