Description

Human Patterns. Real Leadership. Leadership isn’t a performance problem — it’s a human one. The Kathie Owen Perspective is a quiet, discerning look at leadership through the lens of human behavior, emotional regulation, presence, and pattern recognition. This podcast is for leaders, founders, executives, and advisors who sense that something deeper is at play in how people lead, relate, and make decisions — but haven’t had language for it. Kathie Owen is a consultant and observer of human systems. She studies what happens beneath strategy, titles, and metrics — the unseen patterns that shape leadership outcomes, culture, trust, and power. Drawing from real-world consulting experience, executive conversations, and years of studying emotional regulation and human dynamics, Kathie offers perspective rather than prescriptions. This is not a coaching show. This is not motivation or hustle culture. And it’s not therapy. Each episode offers calm insight into: How leaders regulate (or don’t) under pressureWhy capable people repeat the same patternsThe difference between performance and presenceHow clarity emerges when noise is removedWhat real leadership looks like when no one is watchingSome episodes are reflections. Some are observations from the field. Some are quiet truths leaders rarely say out loud. If you’re drawn to insight over tactics, clarity over control, and leadership that starts with self-awareness rather than force — you’re in the right place. This is perspective — not advice. And sometimes, perspective changes everything.

327. The Habits You Can't See | Pattern Recognition
2026/10/03
Send us Fan Mail You notice something familiar. A feeling rises. Before you know it, your mind has decided what the moment means. Some of our strongest habits happen beneath the surface. They are the assumptions we repeat when we feel pressure: This always happens. I know how this ends. I have to fix it right now. In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, Kathie explores the connection between thought habits, pattern recognition, and emotional regulation. She shares why a familiar pattern can feel like proof, and how awareness in the pause gives us room to choose our next step. In this episode: 🟡 How pattern recognition helps us—and when it can lead us to a conclusion too soon 🟡 Why a strong feeling can make one difficult moment seem permanent 🟡 What Neville Goddard’s work on assumptions can help us notice 🟡 The difference between pausing on the outside and becoming aware on the inside 🟡 How prayer, meditation, a walk, or simply sitting with a feeling can help us return to the pause 🟡 Why noticing your reaction later still counts as progress Kathie also reflects on David Hawkins’ distinction between power and force. You may take the same action either way, but the place you act from can change how you experience it. Try this today: When a familiar feeling shows up, ask yourself: What happened? What am I assuming it means? What would help me see more clearly? No shame. No condemnation. Awareness creates choice. 📖 Read the companion article and explore the bonus resources: www.kathieowen.com/blog/habit-pattern 💬 Want to talk about a pattern showing up in your life, leadership, or work? 326. The 12 Rules of Reality Transurfing Under Pressure
2026/09/29
Send us Fan Mail ⚡ One email arrives, and your mind writes the ending before you know what the message means. One mistake happens, and the whole room starts looking for someone to blame. Why does pressure make one possible outcome feel like the only one? In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, I revisit the 12 rules of Reality Transurfing through the lens of human patterns under pressure. I’ve studied Vadim Zeland’s work for close to a decade, and my original article on these rules remains one of my most read. This conversation brings those ideas into the moments we face in leadership, relationships, and everyday life. 🎧 In this episode, we explore: Where your mental energy goes when the stakes feel highHow pendulums pull a group into blame or conflictWhy excess potential can make you grip an outcome too tightlyHow a fearful thought can lead to an induced transitionWhat slides and visualization reveal about the scenes you rehearseThe difference between a goal that matters to you and a door that may not fitYou’ll also hear about the wave of luck, the rustle of the morning stars, moving with the current, intention, and fraile. You don’t need to memorize the terms. Listen for the patterns you recognize. 📖 Read the companion article: www.kathieowen.com/blog/transurfing-rules 📚 Reality Transurfing with Kathie: www.kathieowen.com/reality-transurfing 💬 Explore private consulting or speaking with me: www.kathieowen.com The next time pressure makes one story feel certain, try asking: What happened? 325. Trust Issues? When Pattern Recognition Becomes a Trap | Neville Goddard
2026/09/24
Send us Fan Mail 🔍 What if your “trust issues” are actually strong pattern recognition? You notice the inconsistency. You feel the shift in someone’s behavior. You recognize something familiar—and sometimes, you are absolutely right. But then your mind takes the observation into a courtroom. You gather evidence. Assign motives. Rehearse conversations. Predict the ending. Before long, pattern recognition has become certainty, and certainty is costing you your peace. In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, Kathie explores how to honor what you notice without turning every pattern into a verdict. You do not have to ignore your intuition. You do not have to trust people who have not earned your trust. And you do not have to participate in disrespect. You can draw a boundary and still leave the ending unwritten. Inside this episode: ⚖️ How pattern recognition becomes a mental courtroom 🧠 The difference between observation, interpretation, and certainty 🚪 How to say, “I am not participating in that,” without prosecuting another person 🌊 What Barry McDonagh’s DARE approach teaches us about allowing thoughts to pass ✨ How Neville Goddard’s “living from the end” gives imagination somewhere healthier to land 🔄 How an anomalous challenge can interrupt an expected ending 🏢 Why disciplined pattern recognition matters in leadership, consulting, and decisions under pressure The courtroom is also imagination—but imagination used to accuse, predict, rehearse, and defend. Neville Goddard’s work reminds us that we can use that same imagination differently. We can stop demanding an explanation, return our attention to our vision, and experience the inner posture of the person we are becoming. Your intuition may be right. But your peace does not need a verdict. 📖 Read the companion article: www.kathieowen.com/blog/courtroom 📕 Human Patterns Under Pressure: www.kathieowen.com/human-patterns 📘 The Truth Bubbles Up: www.kathieowen.com/truthbubblesup 🌐 Explore Kathie Owen’s private consulting, speaking, videos, and additional resources: www.kathieowen.com If this episode helped you recognize one of your own mental courtrooms, follow The Kathie Owen Perspective and share the episode with someone who notices everything—but sometimes struggles to put down the case. #PatternRecognition #NevilleGoddard #EmotionalRegulation #HumanPatterns Support the show The Kathie Owen Perspective Helping leaders, founders, and professionals recognize the human patterns that shape leadership, culture, communication, and emotional regulation under pressure. 🌐 Website: https://www.kathieowen.com 📖 Articles & Bonus Resources: https://www.kathieowen.com/blog 🎤 Human Patterns Under Pressure Live Join an upcoming live event to explore leadership psychology, nervous system regulation, and the hidden patterns that influence performance, relationships, and workplace culture. 📱 Connect with Kathie:  • LinkedIn • YouTube • Facebook • Instagram • Pinterest If this episode helped you see something differently, please follow the podcast, leave a review, and share it with someone who could benefit from the conversation. 324. Pressure Is Stealing Your Imagination | Reality Transurfing
2026/09/23
Send us Fan Mail Pressure can make one difficult moment feel like the whole truth. It narrows what we can see, turns temporary experiences into permanent identities, and makes one closed door look like the end of the goal. In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, Kathie explores the connection between imagination, identity, leadership under pressure, and Reality Transurfing’s Goals and Doors. Kathie shares what happened when she entered an aerobics instructor certification course in 2002 without being able to follow an eight count. That humiliating moment could have convinced her she did not belong in fitness. Instead, she went on to become a certified fitness trainer and a highly sought-after water aerobics and SilverSneakers instructor. And then there was Rusty—the unofficial trainer who never waited for a title, an invitation, or permission to belong. 🐾 In this episode: ✨ How pressure shrinks imagination and decision-making 🚪 Why one difficult door does not always mean the goal is wrong 🧠 How limiting beliefs turn moments into identities ⚡ Why urgency can reduce a leader’s ability to see options ⏸️ How the pause creates space for clearer decisions 🌟 Why imagination supports action rather than replacing it The immediate threat may be real. It is not necessarily the whole truth. Sometimes the most important thing you can do is pause long enough to imagine another interpretation, another response, or another door. 📖 Read the companion article, watch the video, and explore the bonus resources: www.kathieowen.com/blog/imagination 📕 Explore Human Patterns Under Pressure: www.kathieowen.com/human-patterns 📘 Read or listen to The Truth Bubbles Up: www.kathieowen.com/truthbubblesup 🌐 Learn more about Kathie’s private consulting, speaking, books, and resources: www.kathieowen.com Support the show The Kathie Owen Perspective Helping leaders, founders, and professionals recognize the human patterns that shape leadership, culture, communication, and emotional regulation under pressure. 323. Your Brain Is Tricking You | Stuck in the Pattern | Reality Transurfing
2026/09/20
Send us Fan Mail 🧠 What if the problem isn't that you can't see the pattern—but that you're so good at seeing it, you've already decided how it ends? Pattern recognition is powerful. We use it to understand people, situations, relationships, leadership, and even ourselves. But there's a catch. Once we recognize a familiar pattern, the brain can quickly move from: “I've seen this before.” to: “I know what this means.” to: “I know what happens next.” In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, I explore a fascinating concept from Reality Transurfing called the anomalous challenge—and a very different way I've been experimenting with it. ⚡ Instead of simply doing something unusual or stepping outside your comfort zone, what happens when you introduce an anomaly inside a pattern you think you already understand? That's where things get interesting. We explore: 🔹 How pattern recognition quietly turns into prediction 🔹 Why being “right” can sometimes limit what you see 🔹 How maybe, maybe not interrupts certainty without denying your observations 🔹 A different way to use the Reality Transurfing anomalous challenge 🔹 Vadim Zeland's concept of the alternatives space 🔹 How changing one small variable can reveal completely new information 🔹 Why an anomalous challenge isn't about forcing a better outcome 🔹 How pattern interruption can expand your thinking, choices, and sense of identity The goal isn't to stop recognizing patterns. It's to become a better observer of them. You don't have to prove your prediction wrong. You don't have to force yourself to believe the opposite. Sometimes you simply introduce one new variable and see what happens. Maybe. Maybe not. 322. Your Mind Is Turning Patterns Into Predictions | Reality Transurfing
2026/09/13
Send us Fan Mail What happens when your mind takes one observation and turns it into an entire future? Someone gets invited to a meeting you weren't invited to. A potential client doesn't respond. Someone behaves differently around you. And suddenly... I know what's happening. But do you? In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, I'm exploring the line between pattern recognition, hypothesis, and certainty—and what can happen when we start emotionally responding to a future that hasn't actually happened. 🔍 Pattern recognition is valuable. But recognizing what you've seen isn't the same as knowing what happens next. 🚪 The Space of Variations reminds us that there may be possibilities we can't see from where we're standing. 🌀 Pendulums can hook our attention through fear, competition, proving, defending, and the need to know. ⏸️ The pause creates space between what happened and the story we're beginning to tell about it. 💼 And this isn't just a Reality Transurfing concept. You'll hear how it can show up in business, entrepreneurship, leadership, M&A, relationships—and even while sitting in traffic. I also explore a question that's leading me somewhere new: Can strong pattern recognition become confused with mind reading? I can observe your behavior. I can recognize repetition. I can form a hypothesis. But can I know what you're thinking? Can I know your intention? Can any of us know for certain what happens next? That's a conversation I think we need to have. 🔗 Go Deeper Read the companion article for this episode. 321. The Future You Wanted Isn’t Happening. Now What? | Finding the Advantage
2026/09/10
Send us Fan Mail What happens when the future you were counting on…doesn't happen? Maybe a relationship changes. A business deal falls apart. A founder struggles with transition. A career takes an unexpected turn. Or something you were certain would happen simply doesn't. Sometimes we're not only grieving what we lost. We're grieving the future we thought we were going to have. In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, I explore what happens when grief, attachment, uncertainty, and Reality Transurfing collide—and how the principle of advantage can help us see something we couldn't see before. And yes…it starts with a strange dream about doves. 🕊️ Inside this episode: 🕊️ Grief & Attachment — Why we can grieve a future that never actually happened. 🧭 Finding the Advantage — What Reality Transurfing can teach us when life takes a direction we didn't choose. 👀 Attention & Energy — Why getting your attention back may be the first advantage available to you. 🧠 Human Patterns Under Pressure — How control, criticism, withdrawal, perfectionism, people-pleasing, over-responsibility, and avoidance can reveal what someone fears losing. 🏢 Business, M&A & Founder Transitions — Why pressure during a merger, acquisition, succession, or major transition can expose human risks that traditional diligence may miss. ❤️ Relationships — The difficult difference between grieving the relationship you lost and grieving the relationship you kept waiting for. And there's an important distinction underneath this entire conversation: Finding the advantage does not mean calling the painful thing good. You don't have to pretend you aren't disappointed. You don't have to rush through grief. You don't have to manufacture a lesson. Sometimes you simply acknowledge: This is what is here. Then, when you're ready, you can begin asking: What can I see now that I couldn't see before? Because pressure reveals information. And information creates choices. 📖 READ THE COMPANION ARTICLE + BONUS RESOURCES www.kathieowen.com/blog/wanted-future-disappears The companion article expands on the episode with additional ideas about non-attachment, attention, human diligence, Reality Transurfing, and Human Patterns Under Pressure. 🌊 REALITY TRANSURFING WITH KATHIE www.kathieowen.com/reality-transurfing 📚 EXPLORE MY BOOKS Human Patterns Under Pressure www.kathieowen.com/human-patterns The Truth Bubbles Up www.kathieowen.com/truthbubblesup 💬 START A CONVERSATION WITH KATHIE   Human patterns under pressure are everywhere. 320. Your Patterns Know Before You Do | Human Patterns Under Pressure
2026/09/08
Send us Fan Mail 🤖 What happens when I hand the questions over to artificial intelligence—and let the conversation go wherever it goes? This episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective is a little different. An AI-generated interviewer named Grace asks the questions. I answer them. But this isn't really an episode about AI. It's about human patterns under pressure—and why the patterns operating beneath the surface can influence what we do before we're even aware of them. 🧠 We explore questions like:  Why does pressure reveal parts of us we don't always see?  Why am I so fascinated by professional athletes?  What can decades in fitness teach us about psychology and leadership?  Do I analyze everyone I meet? 😂  Why can pattern recognition become dangerous when observation turns into certainty?  What does Reality Transurfing teach us about non-attachment and control?  Why is the pause so uncomfortable—and so powerful?  What can dreams reveal about the patterns we're processing?  How do I actually use ChatGPT as a thinking partner?  Can AI make us more creative instead of less?  What is invisible counsel, and how do my mentors Cintia and Joseph Rodriguez influence the way I think?  And after decades of studying people, what am I still trying to understand? ⚾ We also talk sports. Professional sports fascinate me because sports compress pressure. A pitcher can perform the same motion thousands of times, but put the bases loaded, two outs, and a full count behind it—and suddenly we're watching psychology unfold in real time. The same thing happens in leadership, business, relationships, M&A, succession, and major life transitions. Pressure doesn't always create the pattern. Sometimes pressure reveals it. 🌊 We also go deeper into Reality Transurfing by Vadim Zeland, especially non-attachment, uncertainty, importance, control, and leaving room for possibilities we haven't seen yet. One of the biggest lessons I'm learning? Observation does not create obligation. Seeing a pattern doesn't mean I have to fix it. Recognizing a pattern doesn't mean I know exactly what will happen next. And being uncertain doesn't mean I need to manufacture certainty just to make myself feel safer. ✨ Sometimes the most powerful answer is: I don't know yet. And sometimes curiosity gives us access to possibilities certainty would have caused us to miss. 🎧 Listen to the full episode and then ask yourself: What pattern becomes louder in you when pressure rises? And perhaps an even bigger question: What are you trying so hard to figure out that you may be leaving no room for what you haven't seen yet? 📝 Read the companion article: www.kathieowen.com/blog/ai-interview-kathie-owen 🌊 Explore my Reality Transurfing resources:  www.kathieowen.com/reality-transurfing 📕 Human Patterns Under Pressure: https://www.kathieowen.com/human-patterns 📘 The Truth Bubbles Up:  https://www.kathieowen.com/truthbubblesup 💬 Have a Conversation with Kathie If you're a founder, executive, leadership team, or organization navigating growth, succession, M&A, or another high-stakes transition, the visible problem may not be the whole problem. 2026/09/06
Send us Fan Mail 🚪 What if the choice you need is one you can’t see yet? When pressure enters the room, our world can get very small. Stay or leave.  Speak or stay quiet.  Fix it or walk away. But those may not be your only choices. In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, Kathie explores the intersection of Human Patterns Under Pressure and the Space of Variations, a concept from Vadim Zeland’s Reality Transurfing. You’ll discover how pressure can narrow perception, why our automatic patterns limit the possibilities we see, and what can happen when we interrupt the reaction long enough to become aware. ✨ Kathie also explores Non-Attachment, Radical Responsibility, and Courage as practical tools for navigating uncertainty without trying to control what happens next. 318. Why Your Mind Panics When You Don’t Know
2026/09/03
Send us Fan Mail What happens when uncertainty enters the room? 👀 Something changes. Someone goes quiet. The answer hasn’t arrived. And almost immediately, the mind goes to work. Fix it. Predict it. Control it. Figure it out. But what if the information you’re searching for simply doesn’t exist yet? In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, I explore the tiny space between uncertainty and reaction: The pause. ⏸️ This is where things get interesting. We’ll look at inner intention and outer intention from Reality Transurfing and why I think of them this way: Inner intention asks me to participate. Outer intention reminds me I’m not the only participant. There are variables moving outside our field of vision. That doesn’t mean we become passive. It means we take Radical Responsibility for what belongs to us without trying to control everything that doesn’t. We’ll also explore Non-Attachment, Courage, surrender, and why our human patterns can become so loud when we don’t know what happens next. Because maybe you don’t need the final answer. Maybe you only need enough information for this choice. And when you don’t have it yet? Because even when reality finally gives us the information we’ve been waiting for... we have a habit of turning that information into another story. 317. How to Let Go When You REALLY Want It | Non-Attachment
2026/09/02
Send us Fan Mail How do you practice non-attachment when you really, REALLY want something? This is one of the questions I get asked most often. Because telling someone to “just let go” sounds easy when the outcome doesn’t matter very much. But what happens when it does matter? When it’s your relationship? Your child? Your business? Your health? Your financial security? Or a dream you’ve spent years working toward? In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, we explore the uncomfortable space between wanting something deeply and needing reality to give it to you. 🏀 Why wanting an outcome isn’t the same as being attached to it  ✨ What Reality Transurfing teaches about importance and attachment  🧠 Why your nervous system knows the difference between “I want this” and “I need this” ⏸️ What happens in that uncomfortable pause before you know the outcome 🔥 How Radical Responsibility, Courage, and Non-Attachment work together 🕊️ Why letting go doesn’t mean giving up Non-attachment isn't about becoming indifferent. It's about learning to take the shot without making your peace dependent on whether the ball goes in. Care deeply. Take the shot. 316. Stop Forcing What Happens Next | Why Uncertainty Feels So Uncomfortable
2026/08/31
Send us Fan Mail 🌊 What if nothing is wrong—you just don’t know what happens next yet? Pressure hits. Your peace shifts. Your mind starts searching for an answer. And before you know it, you’re analyzing, predicting, fixing, controlling, or creating a story about something that hasn’t even happened. But what if you paused instead? In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, I explore the uncomfortable space between awareness and clarity—that strange moment when you’ve stopped reacting, you can see your patterns clearly…and you still don’t know what to do next. ✨ We explore: Why awareness creates choice, but not always certaintyWhat happens to Peace, Power, and Presence when pressure hitsHow Human Patterns Under Pressure try to fill uncertaintyThe Hermetic principle that “all truths are half-truths”Reality Transurfing and the concept of alternative flowWhy forcing the next step can sometimes create more pressureThe difference between waiting with awareness and avoiding realityWhy these same patterns matter in leadership, private equity, and mergers and acquisitionsSometimes there’s a wave to ride. And sometimes the water is simply still. The challenge is learning the difference. 🌊 📖 Companion Article + Bonus Resources I created a companion article that goes deeper into the ideas from this episode, with additional insights and resources on uncertainty, Reality Transurfing, Human Patterns Under Pressure, and alternative flow. 👉 Read the companion article: www.kathieowen.com/blog/stuck-in-the-pause 📚 Explore My Books Human Patterns Under Pressure Discover the patterns that tend to emerge when uncertainty, stress, responsibility, and emotion collide. 👉 www.kathieowen.com/human-patterns The Truth Bubbles Up A personal exploration of the patterns, truths, and repeated experiences that can quietly shape our lives until we become aware enough to see them. 👉 www.kathieowen.com/truthbubblesup 🌐 Work With Kathie I’m Kathie Owen, consultant and author specializing in human pattern recognition under pressure. 315. Why You Carry Everyone's Problems | The Strong Man Pattern
2026/08/27
Send us Fan Mail 💪 Why You Feel Responsible for EveryoneWhat if the thing everyone praises you for is also the thing exhausting you? You’re dependable. You notice what other people miss. When something goes wrong, you step in. When someone is upset, you feel it. And before anyone even asks for help… You’re already carrying the weight. In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, we meet the next character in Human Patterns Under Pressure: The Strongman. 💪🎪 The Strongman represents over-responsibility—a pattern that can look a lot like strength, loyalty, leadership, and even love. But there’s an important difference between: ✨ “I can handle this.” and ⚠️ “I have to handle everything.” In this episode, we explore: 💪 Why capable, dependable people often carry too much 👀 How noticing someone’s emotions can become feeling responsible for them 🧠 Why self-awareness can accidentally turn into self-blame ⚖️ The difference between Radical Responsibility and over-responsibility 🤹 How the Strongman can team up with perfectionism 🏢 What over-responsibility can look like inside leadership and organizations 🕊️ How Non-Attachment helps us care without taking over 🔥 Why it takes real Courage to allow someone else to carry their own weight ✨ How over-responsibility can quietly steal our Power, Presence, and Peace One of the most important questions we can learn to ask under pressure is surprisingly simple: Is this actually mine to carry? Because just because you can fix something doesn't mean it's yours to fix. Just because you recognize a pattern doesn't mean you have to stop it. Just because someone is uncomfortable doesn't mean you have to make them comfortable. And just because you love someone doesn't mean you have to carry what belongs to them. Sometimes courage looks like picking up the weight. And sometimes courage looks like putting it down. 💪🕊️ 📖 Read the companion article: www.kathieowen.com/blog/strongman 🎧 Listen, observe your own patterns, and see where the Strongman may be showing up in your life. #HumanPatternsUnderPressure #OverResponsibility #SelfAwareness #EmotionalIntelligence Support the show The Kathie Owen Perspective Helping leaders, founders, and professionals recognize the human patterns that shape leadership, culture, communication, and emotional regulation under pressure. 314. People Pleasing is Costing You More Than You Think
2026/08/24
Send us Fan Mail Why You Feel Responsible for Everyone 🤡 What if people-pleasing isn’t really about being nice? What if it’s about feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions? You notice someone is disappointed, so you try to fix it. Someone misunderstands you, so you explain yourself again and again. Someone gets uncomfortable, so you change your behavior. Someone asks for something, and you say yes before you’ve even asked yourself what you want. It can look like kindness. It can look like generosity. It can even look like responsibility. But sometimes, responsibility quietly becomes over-responsibility. In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, we step back into the circus of Human Patterns Under Pressure and meet the character behind the people-pleasing pattern: 🤡 The Clown. The Clown reads the room. The Clown notices everybody. The Clown wants everyone to be okay. Those can be beautiful qualities. But under pressure, the Clown may begin changing the makeup, changing the costume, performing harder, explaining more, and carrying things that were never theirs to carry. And that can become exhausting. 🎪 In this episode, we explore: 🔴 People-pleasing vs. kindness — Saying yes isn’t automatically people-pleasing. What matters is what may be happening underneath the yes. 🤡 The Clown pattern — Why we may change our metaphorical makeup, costume, or performance based on what we think other people want from us. ⚖️ Responsibility vs. over-responsibility — There’s a major difference between noticing someone’s discomfort and deciding their discomfort is yours to fix. 💼 People-pleasing in the workplace — The automatic “I’ll do it,” staying silent when you disagree, taking on too much, and the resentment that can follow. 🏠 People-pleasing at home — “Whatever you want.” “I don’t care.” “It’s fine.” What happens when our words repeatedly hide what we actually want? 🧠 The imaginary courtroom — Replaying conversations, defending yourself, predicting what someone thinks, and trying to win a case that may exist only inside your own mind. 🕊️ Non-Attachment — Learning to release the need to control someone else’s interpretation, reaction, disappointment, or opinion of you. 🔥 Radical Responsibility — Not taking responsibility for everything. Taking responsibility for what actually belongs to you. 💪 Courage — Because saying no, tolerating disappointment, allowing disagreement, and leaving the courtroom without a verdict can require tremendous courage. ✨ Power • Presence • Peace — How people-pleasing can quietly pull us away from all three, and how awareness can help us return. ⚖️ What Actually Belongs to You? This may be one of the most important questions in the entire episode: What actually belongs to me here? 📖 BONUS: Read the companion article I’ve created a companion blog post that takes this conversation even deeper. The article includes bonus resources that were not covered in the podcast, including the People-Pleasing Audit, the False Yes, borrowed discomfort, the Clean Yes/Clean No practice, and an exploration of how people-pleasing and false agreement can become hidden human risk during leadership transitions, mergers, and acquisitions. 👉 READ THE ARTICLE: www.kathieowen.com/blog/people-pleasing 🎧 Subscribe to The Kathie Owen Perspective for conversations about Human Patterns Under Pressure, leadership, self-awareness, Non-Attachment, Radical Responsibility, Courage, and finding your way back to Power, Presence, and Peace when pressure enters the room. 313. Why One Mistake Can Ruin the Whole Moment | The Perfectionism Pattern
2026/08/20
Send us Fan Mail 🤹 Why can one small mistake suddenly become the only thing you can see? You give the presentation. Have the conversation. Finish the project. Most of it goes well. But later, your mind goes straight to the ONE thing you wish you had done differently. Welcome to the world of the Juggler — the character who represents perfectionism in my Human Patterns Under Pressure framework. In this episode of The Kathie Owen Perspective, we explore what perfectionism can look like when pressure enters the room. And it may not look the way you think. 🎪 Inside this episode: 🤹 Why the Juggler is the perfect metaphor for perfectionism 👀 How fear of judgment changes the way we see ourselves 🎤 Why being seen can feel so uncomfortable ⚖️ The important difference between excellence and perfectionism 🦁 What happens when perfectionism and self-criticism work together 🔎 How the Observer’s Lens can help us regain perspective ✨ Why one dropped ball doesn’t have to define the entire performance We also explore an important truth about judgment: The goal may not be to reach a place where you never care what anyone thinks. Instead, you can begin to recognize how small one person's judgment is compared with the size of your entire life. That shift changes things. 💭 The Observer’s Question As you listen, consider this: What am I making bigger than it actually is because I’m afraid of dropping the ball? You don't have to immediately fix what you notice. Start by observing it. Because observation creates awareness. Awareness creates choice. And choice gives us possibilities. 📖 Want to go deeper?
