Description

It’s Not Me, It’s The Devil is a true crime podcast that takes notorious Nigerian criminal cases and rebuilds them from the inside — using court transcripts, sworn testimony, police statements, and newspaper archives. Every case, someone did something terrible. Every case, someone else got the blame. This podcast is the evidence that says otherwise.

The Chairman and The Conman
2026/10/22
The chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission paid N800 million to a native doctor for services including Goodluck Oil, Nobody No Refuse Oil, a dog called Maley, and an attempt to kill a sitting governor with enchanted food. He says he was under a spell. The native doctor says he did the job and is still owed N260 million. In this episode, the native doctor tells the story himself — verbatim from his police statement and court testimony. He is, for the first and probably last time in this podcast, essentially the co-host. Impossible Is Nothing

That was Bank PHB's slogan. It was also, apparently, their lending policy. N25.7 billion in loans to companies that didn't exist, signed off by the CEO, covered up by the CFO, and discovered only after the entire Nigerian banking sector nearly collapsed. This episode tells the story of Francis Atuche, the 2009 banking crisis, and the twelve-year trial that followed — built from EFCC testimony, court transcripts, and a judge who called the defendant's behaviour "the art of subterfuge." The Birthday Boy
2026/09/24
On June 24th, 2011, Akolade Arowolo celebrated his birthday. By the end of the day, his wife Titilayo was dead — found in a locked bathroom with seventy-six stab wounds. He said it wasn't him. This episode follows the case from the crime scene to the Supreme Court, built from forensic testimony, police statements, and the court record. A story about what happens when a woman's death is treated as a puzzle to be solved rather than a life that was taken. A King & His Subjects
2026/09/10
In 2006, six members of a Lagos church were set on fire by their pastor. He called it discipline. The courts called it attempted murder. One of them, Ann Uzor, didn't survive. This episode rebuilds the case of Reverend King from the court transcripts, witness testimony, and Supreme Court judgment. What happened inside the Christian Praying Assembly compound, who was targeted and why, and how a man who claimed to speak for God ended up on death row.
