The Right Way To Use Peptides For Fat Loss And Longevity
2026/04/21
GLP-1 medications and peptides are transforming weight loss and metabolic health, but most people are using them incorrectly. In this episode, Dr. Jen sits down with Dr. Russell Van Maele to break down the right way to use GLP-1s and peptide therapies for long-term health, not just short-term weight loss. They explore why rapid weight loss can lead to muscle loss and metabolic decline, the critical role of hydration, protein intake, and resistance training, and how to use growth hormone secretagogues and peptide stacks safely and effectively. This conversation also dives into the risks of unregulated peptides and why sourcing, dosing, and physician oversight are essential for safe, sustainable results. Dr. Russell Van Maele, DO, is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician and clinical expert focused on longevity and metabolic health. He specializes in using comprehensive biomarker data and peptide therapies to help patients improve insulin resistance, hormone balance, and overall vitality. By combining functional medicine principles with conventional medical training, Dr. Van Maele helps individuals move beyond symptom management and build sustainable, long-term health.  Website: https://blacksheephealth.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_farmers_doctor LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/russell-van-maele-834511228 PODCAST: Thank you for listening please subscribe and share! Why Inflammation Is A Repair Problem, Not A Disease
2026/04/14
What if inflammation and autoimmune conditions aren’t problems to suppress, but signals that the body is struggling to repair? In this episode, Dr. Jen sits down with Dr. J. Russell Jaffe, a pioneer in integrative medicine, to explore a fundamentally different lens on chronic illness. Drawing from decades of experience in molecular biology and clinical diagnostics, Dr. Jaffe explains why inflammation reflects a “repair deficit,” how chronic stress and elevated cortisol disrupt immune function, and why modern medicine often misses the deeper drivers of disease. The conversation also dives into environmental toxins, emotional trauma, and lifestyle patterns that quietly overwhelm the body, and how returning to simplicity, nature, and mindful living can restore resilience, vitality, and long-term health. Dr. J. Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD, CCN, is a pioneer in integrative medicine with over 40 years of experience in molecular biology and clinical diagnostics. After serving on the senior staff of the NIH and becoming board-certified in Clinical and Chemical Pathology, he shifted his focus toward root-cause, patient-centered care. As the founder of PERQUE Integrative Health and ELISA/ACT Biotechnologies, Dr. Jaffe has authored nearly 100 scientific articles and developed predictive biomarkers to identify underlying contributors to chronic illness. He is widely recognized for his philosophy of “Nature’s pHarmacy,” emphasizing alkaline nutrition, immune repair, and sustainable wellness. Why Seed Oils Are Driving Obesity and Metabolic Dysfunction
2026/03/03
Seed oils are not just a modern cooking swap — they represent a dramatic shift in how we fuel our bodies. In this episode, Dr. Jen sits down with Steven Rofrano, founder of Ancient Crunch, to explore how vegetable oils moved from industrial products to dietary staples and why that change may be contributing to oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and insulin resistance. They discuss the historical roots of seed oil adoption, the metabolic consequences of unstable omega-6 fats, the importance of ancestral food preparation methods like nixtamalization, and practical ways to reduce seed oil exposure without feeling restricted or extreme. Steven Rofrano is an entrepreneur and founder of Ancient Crunch, the company behind MASA chips and Vandy potato chips. After reversing his own chronic health issues through diet and lifestyle changes, Steven began educating others about ancestral eating and seed oil avoidance. Why Weight Loss, Low Estrogen, and ‘Healthy Aging’ Are Failing Women
2026/02/17
In this episode of the Integrative Health Podcast, Dr. Jen sits down with Dr. Sundeep Dugar—renowned medicinal chemist, co-inventor of the drug Zetia, and industry pioneer with over 40 years of experience—to explore the foundational role of mitochondrial health in aging, hormones, and energy. Dr. Dugar shares why he transitioned from Big Pharma into the nutraceutical space, explaining that while pharmaceutical drugs often target isolated diseases, mitochondria are central to nearly every aspect of human health. Because mitochondrial dysfunction underlies conditions ranging from fatigue to muscle loss, brain fog, and chronic disease, supporting mitochondria offers broad, system-wide benefits. The conversation dives deeply into why mitochondrial health is especially critical for women. Dr. Jen and Dr. Dugar explain how mitochondria are inherited exclusively from the mother and play a central role in hormone production, including estrogen. During perimenopause, declining estrogen levels impair mitochondrial biogenesis, creating a “bioenergetic deficit” that drives hallmark aging symptoms such as fatigue, cognitive decline, and muscle loss. Dr. Dugar introduces epicatechin—a specific flavonol derived from green tea and cacao—and explains how it acts as an “exercise mimetic,” signaling the body to create new mitochondria. He clarifies how epicatechin differs from common green tea extracts like EGCG, outlines proper dosing, and discusses why more is not better. They also cover the broader implications of mitochondrial health for bone density, muscle preservation, organ failure, sleep quality, and the risks associated with rapid weight loss from GLP-1 medications. Dr. Jen speaks with medicinal chemist Dr. Sundeep Dugar about mitochondrial health, estrogen decline, epicatechin from green tea, perimenopause, muscle loss, and healthy aging. Dr. Sundeep Dugar is a renowned medicinal chemist with over 40 years of experience in drug discovery and development. He is the co-inventor of Zetia and has worked extensively in cardiovascular, metabolic, and mitochondrial research. Dr. Dugar now focuses on translating cutting-edge science into safe, effective nutraceuticals that support foundational cellular health. Motherhood, Faith & Joy
2026/02/10
In this episode of the Integrative Health Podcast, Dr. Jen is joined by Abigail (Abby) Halberstadt—author, homeschooling mother of ten, and cultural commentator—for an honest and hope-filled conversation about motherhood, faith, and joy. Together, they explore how modern culture and social media have normalized chronic complaining and resentment around parenting, often framing motherhood as something to survive rather than something to embrace. Dr. Jen and Abby challenge this narrative, discussing why “misery does not like company” and how constant negativity shapes not only maternal mental health, but family culture as a whole. Abby shares why she believes guidance for mothers must be grounded in Scripture and timeless Christian principles such as gratitude, self-giving love, and choosing others over self. She explains how these values—while faith-based—are universal truths that foster fulfillment, resilience, and peace, even for those outside the Christian faith. Drawing from her personal experience and her latest book, You Bet Your Stretch Marks, Abby reframes the physical, emotional, and spiritual demands of motherhood as a meaningful calling rather than a burden. This episode offers encouragement for women who desire a deeper sense of purpose, joy, and alignment in their homes and daily lives. Dr. Jen speaks with Abigail Halberstadt about faith-based motherhood, reframing parenting culture, finding joy, gratitude, and purpose through Scripture and daily life. Abigail (Abby) Halberstadt is an author, homeschooling mother of ten, and homeschool graduate herself. She is a fitness instructor and former high school Spanish teacher who writes and speaks from a Christian perspective to help women rediscover joy, balance, and fulfillment in motherhood. Abby is the author of You Bet Your Stretch Marks, which encourages women to see motherhood as a meaningful vocation rather than a burden. Airway Dentistry, Jaw Development & The Hidden Root of Chronic Symptoms
2026/02/03
In this episode of the Integrative Health Podcast, Dr. Jen sits down with Dr. Paige Prather, a leading expert in airway and biological dentistry, to explore why dentistry must “zoom out” beyond teeth and aesthetics to consider the airway, jaw development, and whole-body health. Dr. Prather explains how modern dentistry and orthodontics—especially extraction-based treatments—can unintentionally shrink the airway and contribute to lifelong breathing issues, sleep disorders, and chronic sympathetic dominance. They discuss how changes in modern diet, bottle feeding, and reduced breastfeeding have altered jaw development compared to our ancestors, leading to narrower palates and compromised airways. This episode dives into common compensation patterns like clenching and grinding, TMJ pain, headaches, neck tension, sleep apnea, and behavioral challenges in children that are often misdiagnosed. Dr. Prather also highlights the role of biological dentistry in addressing hidden stressors such as cavitations and tongue ties, and how advanced appliances can guide growth and healing—often without invasive surgery. If you or your child struggle with sleep, chronic pain, anxiety, sensory issues, or fatigue, this conversation may reveal a critical missing piece. Dr. Jen talks with Dr. Paige Prather about airway dentistry, jaw development, clenching, grinding, sleep apnea, tongue ties, cavitations, and holistic dental solutions for whole-body health. Dr. Paige Prather is a leading expert in airway and biological dentistry. She specializes in evaluating jaw development, airway volume, and oral restrictions that impact sleep, nervous system regulation, and systemic health. Her work focuses on identifying root causes—such as tongue ties, cavitations, and cranial strain—and using holistic, growth-guiding dental approaches to support long-term healing in both children and adults. Align with Your Body Clock to Reduce Inflammation + Boost Health
2026/01/27
What if your body has its own schedule for optimal health—and ignoring it fuels inflammation and fatigue? How Mold and Mycotoxins Impact Hormones
2026/01/20
In this episode of the Integrative Health Podcast, Dr. Jen dives deep into the often-overlooked connection between mold exposure, mycotoxins, and hormone dysfunction—especially for women in perimenopause and midlife. Dr. Jen explains why clean eating, supplements, and even hormone replacement therapy may fail when environmental toxins like mold are driving estrogen dominance, chronic fatigue, anxiety, weight gain, and histamine intolerance. She breaks down how fat-soluble mycotoxins interfere with liver detoxification, mitochondrial energy production, immune regulation, and nervous system balance. This conversation explores the concept of the “perimenopause storm,” where declining hormonal resilience combined with mold exposure amplifies symptoms such as brain fog, heavy cycles, mood changes, and stubborn weight gain. Dr. Jen also issues an important warning about rapid weight loss and GLP-1 medications in mold-toxic individuals, emphasizing the dangers of mobilizing stored toxins without proper drainage. Most importantly, Dr. Jen outlines a safer path to healing—focusing on nervous system regulation, environmental awareness, and gentle detoxification rather than aggressive protocols. If you feel stuck, reactive, or inflamed despite doing “all the right things,” this episode may reveal the missing piece. Dr. Jen explains how mold and mycotoxin exposure disrupt hormones, drive estrogen dominance, impact perimenopause, affect the nervous system, and why detox must start with safety and environment. Hidden Mold, Mycotoxins & Why Standard Remediation Fails
2026/01/13
In this episode of the Integrative Health Podcast, Dr. Jen sits down with John Bohde, founder of The Mold Pros, to uncover the hidden dangers of indoor mold exposure and why most standard remediation methods fail to protect your health. John explains why “dead mold is still a health concern” and how common practices like bleach, biocides, quick air sampling, and cosmetic fixes often leave behind toxic mold fragments and mycotoxins that continue to impact the nervous system, immune health, and hormones. They dive into science-backed testing methods, including environmental mycotoxin testing, infrared thermography, and layered inspections that go far beyond basic air samples. John also shares why newer homes may actually pose a higher mold risk, how HVAC systems act as the “lungs of the home,” and what homeowners need to know before buying or remediating a property. If you or your family struggle with chronic illness, fatigue, autoimmune conditions, CIRS, or unexplained symptoms, this episode provides essential, actionable guidance to protect your health and your home. Dr. Jen talks with mold expert John Bohde about hidden mold exposure, mycotoxins, failed remediation methods, ERMI testing, HVAC contamination, and how homeowners can protect their health. John Bohde is the founder of The Mold Pros, a science-driven mold inspection and remediation company specializing in advanced testing and non-toxic, enzyme-based treatments. John is known for challenging outdated industry standards and educating homeowners on how mold and mycotoxins impact long-term health—especially for those with chronic illness, autoimmune disease, or environmental sensitivity.
