Tessa is a survivor of sexual abuse, suffering extensive abuse from a family friend at a young age. Though she faced harassment and threats after coming out about her abuse, Tessa devotes her time to advocate for other survivors and ensure the cycle of sexual abuse is put to an end.    Together, Barbra and Tessa open the conversation surrounding sexual abuse. In 2019, Rabbi Avremi Zippel publicly came forward about the decade of sexual abuse he endured at the hands of his nanny, many years his senior. He is believed to be the first Orthodox Rabbi in the world to speak publicly regarding being sexually abused as a child. In this three-part special on stalking and domestic violence resulting in a homicide, we discuss the beautiful life of the dynamic and courageous Amie Harwick, and her tragic death at the hands of her ex-boyfriend and stalker, Gareth Pursehouse. Amie was a fire breathing, celebrity family and sex therapist, and she empowered women, not only through her work but in her daily life. Amie suffered severe physical abuse during her relationship with Pursehouse and had twice sought restraining orders against him. The restraining order had expired shortly before he killed her. A 2008 study of restraining orders among victims of intimate partner homicide found that about 11% of women killed by male intimate partners had gotten a restraining order; one-fifth of those victims were killed within two days of the order being issued. In this episode, model, social media influencer, and women’s advocate Emily Sears sheds light on the story of her former stalker and how her therapist Dr. Amie Harwick successfully helped her through the traumatic experience.
