Episode 1: Embracing Nuance, and Evidence-Based Coaching, with James Clarke
2020/12/13
In this episode, Matt sits down with James Clark, a Personal Trainer with over 15 years experience in the Health & Fitness industry, and co-owner of Pyramid Performance gym in Stockport, England, to have a chat about all things coaching, including what it means to be 'evidence-based', how much focus we should place on the scientific literature vs our own 'in the field' coaching experience, and the importance of language and expectation management when communicating with clients. They both 'talk shop' and give some practical examples of where they have combined and drawn from various different forms of evidence in order to influence their own coaching decision making - these examples include the concept of training to failure, technique development in the big 3 lifts, and in nutrition coaching.
