SHEFF UTD. [H] the verdict .... patience starting to wear a bit thin
2026/10/18
A second home defeat of the week and this time we didn't even have an opening spell deserving of taking a lead, Yu's pathetic shot the only attempt before Arblaster scored what proved to be the winner with just 5 minutes played.
Difficult to take anything positive away from the game. A poor performance but neither Skubala or Knight seemed overly concerned in their post match interviews. As for our skipper, he gets a roasting from the panel as based on the 85 minutes being on he pitch he feeling is he has mentally checked out with a summer transfer away already in his mind, Drop him and take away the captaincy is called for!

BLACKBURN [H] the verdict ..... a tale of two goalkeepers
2026/10/14
City would have had the game most likely won within half an hour had Toth in the Blackburn goal not denied Ballard twice with saves of the highest order.
Blackburn's only shot on target in the whole game ended in the back of the net. It proved to be the matchwinner but for City keeper Tickle it will give him nightmares should he choose to watch the replay!
Skubala's football is proving a hard watch and the fans patience at Ashton Gate will be tested if they are not soon lifted from their slumber - only 3 goals in 6 home games to stir them so far this season.

CHARLTON (A) the verdict ..... a point that was fully deserved in a bitty display
2026/10/11
City were sluggish in the early stages at The Valley and deservedly fell a goal behind before Twine's penalty equaliser.
Not a great performance with the main talking points being more appalling refereeing decisions and just how good, or not, is keeper Sam Tickle - a worldy save from Knibbs at the end which secured the point but worryingly inconsistent in certain aspects of his game.

WATFORD [H] the verdict ...... Ballard strike secures all three points
2026/09/20
City go into the international break in 8th place and few would argue that 13 points on the board from 8 games has exceeded expectations.
Regulars Ant Banks, Dave Tovey and host David Pottier are joined by City supporter Simon Mann of BBC 5 LIVE's Test Match Special team.
The game is reviewed in depth alongside everyone's view on where we are at this early point in the 3 year project.

LINCOLN CITY [H] the verdict ....... a night to forget for everyone, particularly RobDickie
2026/09/16
Skubala's former assistants got one over on their old boss as the Imps secured all 3 points with unable to breakdown their resolute defensive line.
Rob Dickie's error led to the only goal and the City defender then suffered the trauma of being stretchered off with what looked a very serious leg injjury

SOUTHAMPTON [H] the verdict ...... the scoreline did not reflect a decent performance
2026/09/13
City failed to convert a handful of real goal chances as they dominated the first half at St. Mary's Stadium. The home side had one chance and took it before the break and increased their lead just after it due to the officials not understanding the rules of the game!
Tolaj put City back in with a shout on the hour but Skubala's subs didn't work and sloppy defending late on allowed the Saints to score two more.
Question marks over Dickie from the panel of DaveP, Adam Taylor and Neil Sutton as Dave Tovey hosts the debate

BURNLEY [A] the verdict .... Yu's injury time winner capped a fine performance
2026/09/06
A third win in a row is no mean feat and the fact that at Turf Moor City went on to achieve after going down to a goal in a match they had dominated shows the fighting spirit Michael Skubala is instilling into the players.
Everyone played their part in a game that has made City's start to the season so impressive.

PRESTON [A] the verdict ...... a recipe for success: winning without playing well!
2026/09/02
City had the perfect start at Deepdale when a flowing move after just 3 minutes ended with Scott Twine scoring from close range.
What followed was not pretty and when the home side levelled after 51 minutes it was the least they deserved.
Skubala shook things up on the hour and was rewarded when goals from Eisatt & Ballard wrapped up the points

PORTSMOUTH [H] the verdict ..... deserved the 3 points in a scruffy game
2026/08/30
First win under Skubala thanks to another good goal which was a genuine team effort finished off with aplomb by Tolaj.
Once Knight's header made it 2-0 early in the 2nd half there was really only going to be one winner and that was us.
DaveP debates the match action and more [*] with Dave Tovey, Ant Banks & Richard Angell
[*] Williams bossing midfield, Cardines impressive start, left footed goalkeepers, awful referee, who's leaving before Wednesday, who might be coming in and what's the points haul going to be from three straight games on the road.

BIRMINGHAM CITY [A] the verdict ...... a marked improvement and a goal to savour
2026/08/23
Dom Ballard's strike on 85 minutes was good enough to win any game and it's execution was of the highest order. It put City in front for a second time but they were denied the three points their performance deserved by a questionable penalty which Birmingham scored in the very last minute.
This was a much improved performance after City's opener against Millwall last weekend with Scott Twine playing a major part in it.
Dave Tovey hosts the review with Ant Banks, Adam Taylor and David Pottier

MILLWALL [H] the verdict ...... Randell you numpty and Skubala has a lot to learn
2026/08/16
DaveP and the panel review a disappointing start to the season as City lost 2-0 at home to Millwall.
The Lions were strong early on but City fought their way back into the game until Randell's foolish challenge earned him a second yellow card and after that there was only going to be one winner.
Both goals conceded were soft and there appears little understanding between Dickie and goalkeeper Tickle who makes no attempts to dominate his 6 yard area and take crosses.
Skubala has played in a particular formation most of pre-season but threw all that out of the window for this game and why he elected to wait until half time before making the logical substitution which would have made 10 man City more solid only he will know.
More of this and it could be a long hard season.

26/27 Season Preview ..... what lies ahead?
2026/08/13
DaveP debates all the topics currently on the minds of City fans with the new season opener against Millwall just around the corner.
Dave Tovey, Ellie Jones, Paul Binning plus former player Chris Honor have plenty to say and that includes a tribute to "one of our own" Joe Bryan who announced his retirement this week aged just 32

WALSALL [H] the verdict ..... out of the cup and leaving more questions than answers!
2026/08/07
Despite 33 shots on goal City found themselves dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League 2 Walsall.
Tickle had kept the scores level at half time with his quadruple save sequence but Tanner and Dickie were caught knapping just after the restart as Pressley scored he only goal of the game.
DaveP debates the action and more with DaveFevs, Tom (Robins Nest) and Adam Taylor

PLYMOUTH & EXETER (A) ..... a good workout for the squad
2026/08/02
Beating Newcastle probably didn't help as expectations were raised going into these two games, Whilst City didn't lose either they didn't exactly impose themselves on the lower league opposition.
he Plymouth line up was the stronger side and by our reckoning no more than three of those who started the game at Exeter are likely to make it to the 11 selected for Millwall in the opening league fixture.
DaveP debates the action and more with Dave Tovey, Ant Banks & Paul Hunt

NEWCASTLE (H) the verdict .... Magpies downed by rampant Robins
2026/07/30
We've all been around long enough not to get too carried away by a 4-1 pre-season friendly win against Premier League side Newcastle United but there was much to admire about City as they raced to a 3 goal lead inside 50 minutes.
Newcastle fans numbered 3400 in an incredible match attendance (21500) for a friendly with all in the ground standing for a minutes applause to celebrate the life of Kevin Keegan who recently passed away.
Eddie Howe resigned as Newcastle's manager less than 24 hours after the final whistle and even allowing for his team's training schedule being behind City they did not sparkle at all.
Dave Tovey hosts the match review with Richard Angell, Adam Taylor & David Pottier
