Description
Ask Yourself Why Not is a feel-good personal growth podcast where two friends share what they're learning from self-help books, podcasts, and their community and talk through how it actually shows up in real life. Hosted by Shaye and Jayla, AYWN is rooted in a Why Not mindset choosing curiosity over pressure, honesty over perfection, and small, supportive shifts over trying to fix yourself. This is a space for real conversations, everyday wisdom, and reminders that you're allowed to grow gently and in your own time. Come as you are. Stay as long as you need.

Rest Is Productive and Your Memory Is Lying to You
2026/10/14
Rest Is Productive and Your Memory Is Lying to You This week, we're talking about the things we can't stop thinking about lately: the sudden end of Sean Croxton's Quote of the Day podcast, Jayla's fitness studio plans, a belated birthday unboxing, and why Lululemon might have some competition.
Then we get into the stuff that really makes you think. Why do two people remember the exact same experience completely differently? Can your memories change over time? And why are we so good at pushing through exhaustion when maybe what we actually need is a nap?
We're talking Aura Ring readiness scores, the underrated power of rest, and a simple practice we picked up from Gabby Bernstein: "I am willing to heal from this." Because sometimes the best thing you can do when something gets under your skin is pause before reacting.
We're also reminding ourselves that not everything needs to be forced, figured out, or fixed immediately.
A few things to take away:
Short, intentional content can give your brain a much-needed reset.
Your memory is a little more complicated than you might think.
Rest is productive, even when your to-do list disagrees.
You can pause before reacting instead of letting your emotions run the show.
You don't have to force every outcome to make things work out.
And if you need a little reminder to unclench your jaw, take a breath, and stop trying to manage every possible outcome, borrow our mantra:
Everything's always working out for me in my favor.
As always, we're asking ourselves why not? And hopefully reminding you to do the same.
Listen now to Ask Yourself, Why Not? with Jayla and Shaye.
Oglebay Fest + Other Things We're Obsessed With
2026/10/08
So... We Have Some Ideas.
We went to Oglebay Fest, had the best time, made some questionable purchases, got wildly creative with the kids, and somehow came home with approximately 47 new business ideas.
Because obviously.
In this episode, we're talking about why Oglebay Fest has basically become a family holiday, the creative chaos that happens when you give kids a bunch of canvases and acrylic paint, and why Jayla thinks cabin rentals might need a pop-up hot tub option.
We also get into Jayla's recent graduation from the West Virginia Association of Realtors leadership program, what she learned about West Virginia, the people she met along the way, and the slightly over-the-top enchanted forest outfit she created for the occasion.
And because we can never just have ONE conversation, we also dive into Wayne Dyer's five steps to manifesting from Wishes Fulfilled and talk about how we can actually put those ideas into practice.
Basically, this episode is about family, creativity, community, big ideas, manifesting, and letting yourself have a little fun with all of it.
In this episode:
Why Oglebay Fest is basically better than Christmas
Creative projects with the kids
The accidental pumpkin business
Our latest business ideas
Pop-up hot tubs at cabin rentals — hear us out
Golf carts, because why not?
Jayla's leadership program graduation
What she learned about West Virginia
The enchanted forest graduation outfit
Wayne Dyer's 5 steps to manifesting from Wishes Fulfilled
How to start thinking about what you want instead of just wishing for it
Why creativity and curiosity can lead you somewhere unexpected
As always, thanks for hanging out with us. Now go ask yourself...
Why not?

Someone Left With a Tattoo...
2026/07/23
EmpowerFest is over, our feet still hurt, we're emotionally attached to everyone we met, and somehow a few left with a new tattoo.
Normal Saturday behavior.
This week we're spilling everything—from the behind-the-scenes chaos that no one saw, to the last-minute "we'll figure it out" moments, to why community always seems to show up exactly when you need it.
We also talk about:
Why getting a tattoo or piercing at a wellness event somehow made perfect sense.
The local women-owned businesses that absolutely crushed it.
The volunteers, kids, sponsors, and friends who became the real MVPs.
Jayla's new wellness space.
What we'd totally do differently next year... and what we'll never change.
Here's the thing: EmpowerFest was never just about facials, shopping, or wellness. It's about creating a space where women walk in as strangers and leave feeling like they found their people.
We laughed. We stressed. We pivoted approximately 4,000 times. We questioned our life choices around 7 a.m. setup. And we'd do it all over again.
Because eventually... your sail opens.
So grab your coffee, take us on your hot girl walk, clean your kitchen, or avoid folding your laundry for another hour—we're recapping one of our favorite days of the year.
Thanks for being part of this little community we've built. We don't take it for granted.
Love you. Mean it.
What If the Next Version of You Starts With a Why Not? Come take a walk with us!
