The latest episode of Lodown’s podcast series features an entertaining and educational chat between two of Lodown’s original UK ambassadors, writer and journalist Goetz Werner and photographer extraordinaire Eddie Otchere. Having met in 1995 at the seminal drum&bass night Metalheadz at the legendary Blue Note club in London’s Hoxton Square, Goetz Werner and Eddie Otchere quickly became Lodown’s UK tag team. With Goetz doing the interviews and writing the features and Eddie taking the pictures, the two covered the early drum&bass heyday, the burgeoning UK hip hop scene, some big US hip hop artists like the Wu Tang Clan, Nas, Mos Def and Talib Kweli and a lot of other DJs and musicians from across various musical genres. Always the finger on the pulse, the two often featured future stars in Lodown magazine way before the mainstream media latched onto them. Over the years Eddie became one of the most iconic music photographers in the UK and Goetz moved into filming and directing and has established himself as a successful director.

Producer. Musician. DJ. A&R. Label chief. Walking-talking encyclopedia of anything pop culture. Berlin-based Mathias Modica is many different things, but first and foremost he’s an old pal of Lodown as our ways crossed more than once since he co-founded Gomma in 2000. We hooked up once again in early June - not only to talk all that jazz - but to bridge the gap from Munich’s glorious past to his musical present in Berlin.

Berlin-Urgestein Steffen Grap might be many different things at the very same time - a gifted dude behind and in front of the camera, a passionate skateboarder, an avid observer of the latest trends in streetwear-land, an indispensable creative force for Germany’s capital and beyond, an ardent supporter of basically anything pop culture, an artist with a new found love for ink, a true renaissance man - but above all he’s just a super nice guy and overall rad human being. We’ve hooked up with the Grap in early June to learn more about his roots, the current status quo and future projects.

We had the honor of speaking to the one and only OBEY, the Giant which goes by the name of Shepard Fairey. Shepard is a true pioneer! He is an amazing artist with a rich history, a DJ with wonderful taste in music and runs a label called OBEY. You should have heard of it. Besides that he is an awesome human being and I really enjoyed talking to him.
