RECLAIM Your Life; Stop Scrolling, Take Back Your Attention & Start Living; HEATHER HENDERSON; Live from California

RECLAIM Your Life; Stop Scrolling, Take Back Your Attention & StartLiving; HEATHER HENDERSON; Live from California #realconversations #scrolling #recruiter #author #humanbehavior CONVERSATIONS WITH CALVIN — WE THESPECIESHosted by Calvin Schwartz MEET HEATHER HENDERSON: It’s been several hours since ourinterview. I'm still reverberating. Heather and I chatted before the Zoom.  I was absorbing. There is much to Heather. There is a critical message in her book “Reclaim: How to Stop Scrolling ThroughYour Life and Start Living It.” I rarely do this, but I want to make a pointabout how important this is. Invoking Cher slapping Nicholas Cage in‘Moonstruck’ and telling you to “Snap out of it” while I slap some faces. Yes,dramatic. Heather’s message is dramatic and real. Heather is brilliant, worldly, hugely experienced and talented. To enhance the mood here.Fragmentation of attention. Unprecedented connectivity with quiet exhaustion.Did I choose this, or was it chosen for me? (powerful). Long live thealgorithm. And this scary thing: behind all the productivity, something ismissing. I say this all the time. Our world is changing every 15 minutes. Thisinterview is critical and necessary. Heather’s book ‘Reclaim’ is releasedSeptember 22. Now as I like to do. Here are some of Heather’s words andsentences from our interview. She was on that Google bus as a recruiter. (andothers). Busy scrolling. Blinds closed instead of watching the sunset.Awareness is a first step. It takes 24 minutes to regain focus. AI can threatento accelerate the attention crisis. Archetypes: Ways to see yourself, i.e., TV watcher, scorekeeper. That’sme! Unplugging is uncomfortable. Self-control is extraordinarily difficult. Somuch more here with Heather. I’m invoking Cher’s slap across the face again.“Slap out of it.” Reclaim is so necessary. Calvin 🎙️ 865+ YouTubevideos; starting my 7th year, now over 500 interviews on 6continents. Over 500 interviews on 6continents. A global ranking in top 0.5% to 3 % in endurance stats. That meanssomething. This interview with Michael Druckman, author of ‘Crunch Time-CareerPathways in the Age of AI ’, has to be one of the most important and HUGELYurgent interviews. It’s beyond urgent. Reminds me of a Nevil Shute book, On theBeach.’ The movie scared me. A nuclear war. Australia was the last placeunaffected by radioactivity. Words on banners in town. “There’s still time,Brother.’ No, there isn’t a lot of time, as AI changes our world every 15minutes. What about five years from now? Michael Druckman and Illah RezaNourbakhsh have written an essential, powerful, provocative book on AI forstudents, parents, academics- actually, all of us earth denizens- even seniorcitizens, as I loosen my collar. We’re not talking ten years or twenty yearsfrom now. Maybe five years. We, the species, need to be ready. The credentialsfor Michael and Illah are quite amazing. I’ve read the book, taken notes, absorbed it, and taken off my Rutgers hat. Serious move for me. Our interviewwas poignant. Michael is brilliant beyond grasp. Eloquent, devoted (via SchoolsThat Can, urban education), and passionate. As I like to do at this juncture,I'll deposit a few random words and thoughts from our interview. An enticement.Urgency. Sam Walton thought innovation was a risk. He just did it better. AI isNOT a spectator sport. University leaders are not prepared. A Californiauniversity is now looking for non-traditional students. Winston Churchill.Charles Dickens. Marshmallow test-delayed gratification. The Robots are coming.  $102 billion spent on human skills. $700billion spent on AI data centers. THINK. Where the evolution of AI currently stands. Resilience. Enough said. Many thanks to Jessica & Trish at Pellien Public Relations for thisconnection. And how medical cannabis helped him beyond. There is so muchdepth to Gil. He is currently building WIZDOM Coaching Circle for patientswhose medical treatment isn’t working. His brilliance helps people with apersonalized protocol. Things we touched on. Patient education. AI and cannabis(fascinating). His US patent is an amazing idea. Guiding 10,000 patients. What a great word to startthis paragraph. Michael’s book, ‘The Unlikely Leader’ explores leadership. Thatwhole notion of leadership has been swirling around my consciousness for a longtime. Remember, I worked for the world’s richest Italian as a regional salesmanager for 25 years. Leadership on my mind since 1981. Now here is Michael. Aformer Hollywood talent agent (I love everything Hollywood), entrepreneur, andCEO of a market research company. A founder of The Collective Rise, aleadership development platform. Michael is eloquent, brilliant, real, inspiring, provocative, and knew the R on my cap was Rutgers. A formerConnecticut resident. Now in Utah. Indeed, this is a dream interview. HenceNirvana. Let’s get in the mood. We assess leadership potential based onvisibility, loudness, and confidence. But what about people who lead withclarity, empathy, strength, and curiosity? Meaning you don’t have to be theloudest. Quiet strength. I often (for the last five decades) wonder if we thespecies (my podcast title), overlook the best people to lead. As I often do,here are some words and thoughts from Michael to entice. His book started waybook (a MUST READ) and took six years to write. A myth. A leader has to haveall the answers. Lee Iacocca. In order to be a king, act like a king. WaltDisney. Steve Jobs. Abe Lincoln.  GeneralPatton. Humility. People crave authenticity. Best advice ever from his dad.Quiet people make the best leaders. Where do I begin? Grateful to the universe for connecting Seyed and me.Indeed, this is the stuff they make movies about. And there is absolutelynothing political here. Just us humans talking about a special journey. Seyedwas born in Northern Iran in 1974. A large family. A father addicted to drugs. An illiterate mother. He was not a good student, but received a special giftthat energized him. He graduated from a prestigious Iranian university andimmigrated to America in 2012. He got his PhD in Molecular Medicine. He’swritten numerous articles on cancer and reproductive health. AND WHY WE AREHERE TODAY. His amazing memoir, “In Search of Rain from Motel Ou to Pittsburgh:A Memoir for Everyone.” A must-listen-to interview. As I often do, here aresome words and thoughts from Seyed. He buried his father with his hands. Adifficult childhood. Don’t ever give up (He said this often). He had aninspiring teacher in a wheelchair in elementary school. A fifth-grade teachertold him that he can be better. What surprised Seyed most about America was itsdiversity; Living with tranquility. Human values. To have impossible dreams. (remindedme of the song). In search of rain means freedom and peace. His memoir took tenyears to write. It’s a beautiful and inspiring book. Seyed talked about AndrewCarnegie. And philanthropy. Trying to help people inspires him. Seyed hugelyinspired me.” Calvin 🎙️ 845+ Interviews & Videos; 6 years, nearly 500 interviews on 6continents. We could’ve talked allnight. Aaron is pure magic with a grasp on life and what’s important. He iscomposing a book that will never be published. A journal for his two sons. Suchdepth, caring, and love. Favorite author. J.R.R. Tolkien. He wrote his firstnovella when he was seven. An abundance of AI also happened here. Therefore, watch this. As I like to do. Some words and thoughts now. He is a Cancer, so hewrites organically. By the early 90’s, he knew he was a writer. His T-shirt. Ihave interviewed hundreds of authors. Aaron is the first. He does everything inreverse. He comes up with a book cover and then builds a story around that. Aquote, “Hope stronger than fear.” Groundhog Day. If you want to get better, stop marketing. I watched businesses invest in ads that seemed perfectlylogical, yet nothing happened. No response. No lift. No results. Everything changed when I was hired as General Manager ofTelemedia Network Radio, then Canada’s largest radio syndication company. Weheld the broadcast rights for the Toronto Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs, anddozens of music and entertainment programs. Working with major agencies andworld-class brands, I noticed something powerful: the most effective campaignsdidn’t win by out-reasoning the competition. They made you feel somethingbefore you ever had time to think about it. I became determined to understand why. I immersed myself inEvolutionary Psychology, Behavioural Economics & Neuroscience, then turnedwhat I learned into a simple metaphorical framework that non-marketers couldactually grasp. I called it The Divided Brain. That insight led to a bold decision. If I could bring thisthinking back to local radio, I knew I’d have a unique advantage. So I left mydream job, struck out on my own, and bought my first radio station to test thetheory. The results exceeded anything I had imagined. Our company grew quickly, and our advertisers saw exceptional results. Larche Communications eventually grew to five radio stationsand a branding agency, earning more than 25 industry awards before successfulexits. The science worked. Now I’m sharing that advantage. The Divided Brain givesothers the same edge, and through speaking, I help teams put it into practice. I know stuff that works. I lived it. Jennifer’sjourney and teachings work. She is real and charming. As I do in these intros,I'll share some ideas and words from Jennifer.
