168. Deadline 2026 Music Highlights
2026/10/10
Deadline 26 ended just a few days ago, but delivers on a promise of good tracker music from the demo scene. DJ Daemon has finally started making those toplist episodes again and this time it's more of a selection than a countdown. Listen to DJ Daemon's picks from Deadline 2026: 13 demoscene tracks spanning Amiga, FastTracker, SID, streaming music and more. NOTE: This is a new version that have removed a mistake in my wording that I didn not understood had negative meanings. I'm not a native English speaker, so mistakes can happen. My apologies.Playlist:00:00 ericade.radio - Flashback, track from the past - let the toplist begin00:06 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.00:36 MonoToni - Oh so happy04:04 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.04:32 Wrighter - Planefiller06:39 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.07:07 Crome - Kon kon09:41 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.10:06 Alysius - Zombie Walker12:51 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.13:19 JCO - A new slice of funk16:14 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.16:47 W.O.T.W. - Dots feel love!19:47 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.20:19 Alysius - Beyond the lightwave (Ultimate)23:55 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.24:13 Saga Musix - Light wave27:55 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.28:15 Slaxx - No Nordlicht 202632:42 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.32:59 Dualtrax and Artfx - Palmarius37:48 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.38:14 N4cer - Invasion42:09 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.42:45 Obolebe - Dawn dance46:43 DJ Daemon presents the song from the competition.47:22 Bacter and Jeenio and Saga Musix - Keep running51:26 DJ Daemon presents the song from Xenium demo party and also thanks the artist.51:53 Slaze - Anubis revenge54:32 DJ Daemon presents a song from the Arok competion earlier this year.54:59 Eivind Sommersten - Delicate58:13 DJ Daemon thanks you for listening and leads you into that good night with the last song.58:42 Fsfreak - Smile!01:01:01 ericade.radio - With music from the Arok, Deadline and Flash demo parties Production notes: It's the first proper demoscene toplist since 2025. And this one was made as a selection rather than a classic countdown episode. It was a good collection that really made it a breeze to make a good selection.Note: this is an edited version of the podcast due to a very unfortunate mistake in wording. My apologies. 161. The Doom of it all
2026/05/19
There is before ... and after Doom. This legend of a game that blew the door of first person shooters off its hingest, is what DJ Daemon talk about today. From the magic graphic to the experience of standing knee-deep in the dead.Playlist:00:00 ericade.radio - Time for Flashback, tracks from the past - today with a stories from the retro past00:06 DJ Daemon: Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". This was written by philosopher George Santayana in 1905. And we are all for learning from our history here at Flashback, tracks from the past. And today's game may not have been the first game of it's kind. But it was the one that blew the door of its hinges. Today's game is Doom from ID Software.00:43 Jazzhjb - Grooveyard03:40 DJ Daemon: There is a before and an after Doom. This much is clear. It may not have been the first "first person shooter". Castle Wolfenstein often gets that honor. But it did bring an interesting set of ideas to a very captivating mix of game play mechanics. More than everything else, the concept of looking out of the eyes of your protagonist.04:48 Ray Hamilton - Rip this entry05:44 Pastthepixels - Basking06:41 C512w - A random triangle07:40 DJ Daemon: You play as the unknown soldier, often referred to as "Doomguy" or "Doom slayer". The game is sometimes believed to be 3D is "in name only". This is as you see the world in 3D, but your character moves on a 2D plane. But you get a graphical immersion that was splendid by that time. The game moves fast and reaction time matters. Compare this to dungeon crawlers that often had that graphic experience, but moved slowly and in a more exploratory way.08:37 Reptile and Sky - Deinen pappa 313:16 DJ Daemon: You can play at different dificulty levels but most of the time, it does not have any need of a well thought out tactic to play. Instead you try to use the arsenal of weapons you have to your advantage. Just must try not to run out of ammo. Powerful weapons give an advantage until you must switch to less effective one that you still have ammo for. The most crazy weapon is the chainsaw. It's fun to use just for the psychotic look on the face of your player character as you cut through enemies. But you must also note that you are at this time very close to the enemy as well. That may hurt!14:04 Fregmazors - Bottom of the well17:07 DJ Daemon: The biggest, baddest weapon is the BFG 9000. It's not stated what "BFG" means, but everyone knows this one: Big Freaking Gun 9000 off course. Yup, I cannot say its real name as this podcast is not set to explicit. But you get it, right? It deals heavy damage to the enemies but its ammo must be conserved or you may run into trouble.17:55 BenxarPaq - Noisetrance22:42 DJ Daemon: Doom killed the Amiga! Remember where you heard it first…. Or, actually, this has been a stated truth for as long as I have heard. And honestly is that so? I think both yes and no. In reality, the Amiga and the Atari were already underpowered and unready as "Castle Wolfenstein" hit the shelves. Neither could reliably run the coming of age FPS games. At least not with an experience comparable to the PC games. The Intel CPUs was miles ahead of the aging Motorola. The latter running on the Amiga and Atari computers. But my assessment is that it was "Castle Wolfenstein" that dealt the killing blow and Doom that put the last nail in the coffin.23:44 Wallabra - Apex caudalis27:54 DJ Daemon: Doomclones, people! Yes, everyone steals everything from everyone. And Doom had a beauty that spawned a thousand copies. Gloom was the lack-luster attempt to bring the experience of Doom to the Amiga. And it did bring a pretty doomed experience, I give it that at least.28:41 Ray Hamilton - Egg adventure Snow30:02 Burnt fishy - Pachelbel's keygen31:02 Enacostione - Unrequited love32:03 DJ Daemon: On the 100th episode of the CrimeyCade podcast I was interviewed by their host "Mad Conservative crimefighter". There I stated that "all art is grift". Then I explained it as all artists steal from each other. But that's not exactly what the word grift should be used to say. The statement more means that much of the art is used to con other people. Think like NFTs, propaganda and so on. I would probably have explained it more correctly if I had choosen my words better. But I actually meant what I said. In this case: many on the Doom clones were meant to be a big cashgrab for people that thought this was the cool thing right now. And the list goes on…33:00 Substance - Undefeated - 202636:53 DJ Daemon: But as the inspiration went, the revolution was on and the poor clones were later superceeded by good games like "Duke Nukem", "Half life" and later on pretty much every modern game there ever was. Even modern games owe so much to Doom series of games that it's worth remembering the impact it had far after its own fame had faded. First person shooters have to be seen as one of the most successful genres in the gaming industry. And it is today strong and looks like its always been there. 155. Chuck Norris superkicks death into submission
2026/03/22
Death once asked Chuck Norris to go gently into that good night, but Chuck Norris kicked the living daylights out of death. Today's episode covers the C64 game "Chuck Norris Superkicks" and off course the living legend himself. DJ Daemon pays some respect, but also notes how cheesy the actor was. A kickass (literally!) martial artist, but also a rather bad actor.Playlist:00:00 ericade.radio - Time for Flashback, tracks from the past - with your host DJ Daemon00:06 DJ Daemon introducest the show and tells you it covers a Chuck Norris game.00:36 Zantac of Smeuch, Euphorbia - Kicked by Chuck Norris02:13 DJ Daemon presernts the first and only medley for today.02:43 Enacostione - Till raining04:21 Retro104 - Moon crater circuit06:18 Substance - Pattern zero07:47 DJ Daemon tells you the history of Chuck Norris.09:15 Cyclar2 and Luna197 - Melt14:21 DJ Daemon tells you about the cool guy, but weak actor he was.15:36 Enacostione - Another life17:35 DJ Daemon remenders when he first learned about the "Chuck Norris" facts.18:15 Arcane toaster - What else is there?20:39 DJ Daemon talks about the game "Chuck Norris Superkicks" for the C64.22:21 Beyond - Kundalini torture25:10 DJ Daemon tells you why the graphics of this game was so bad.25:52 Fnx - Surpass30:01 DJ Daemon talks about the reviews the game got.30:50 Viraxor - Zangered alia34:47 DJ Daemon discusses why we're behind in covering the big retro game.35:24 Beyond - Offer38:11 DJ Daemon ask you to submit your own suggestions for retro games to review.38:45 Platonist - Eight 8-Bit sized bytes43:36 DJ Daemon looks at upcoming demo parties for March and April of 2026.44:51 Beyond - Harsh47:43 DJ Daemon tells you what apps people use to listen to the station.48:34 Trackerartist - Demo no151:40 DJ Daemon talks about a failed experiment that annoyed the listeners a lot.52:44 Retro104 - Reluctant breeze55:55 DJ Daemon leads you into the good night, albeit not gently, with the last song of the day...56:29 Turtle of Frantic - Multiplex remix Production notes: Colophon: it's just a reference to that meme that makes its rounds on the Internet.
