Description

Matt and Jayce are two ex-college radio guys who became ex-professional radio guys who are now professionally guys in other professions.  Their love of music and the ‘Big Idea’ of how to get radio RIGHT fuels this podcast.  They dive deep into song lyrics, genres, different radio formats, and climb all over the minutiae of music!  They even googled ‘minutiae’ to make sure they used it correctly. Tune in to hear rants about the music/radio industry, be a fly on the wall for interviews with special guests to discuss college radio and the music that inspired them, laugh along with some ridiculous music games and debates, and just have a lot of long-form fun, because there is NO Program Director to tell them they are doing it wrong! If you are a FAN of music, you will find yourself laughing along, shouting at the speakers, and having a good time!

5 Minute Review #2: Rush 2112
2026/09/29
Send us Fan Mail Hey Xers here’s our 2nd Five Minute Album Review.  This time is Rush’s Classic 2112. Five minutes doesn’t do this album justice.  Hell!  The first song is over twenty minutes long.  Shouldn’t the song been 21:12 long for artistic synchronicity? ANYWAY… Is the album good?  Is it bad?  Is it more that the Temples of Syrinx?  Whelp, I gotta go since the Solar Federation is about to assume control.
5 Minute Review #1: Huey Lewis & The News - Fore!
2026/09/06
Send us Fan Mail Welcome to a new feature of the XRadioX Podcast!  We are taking albums that are new, classic, indie, and everything in between, and spending EXACTLY 5 minutes giving you our honest opinion.  In a reminder of our old professional radio days, our timing needs to be exact, or I guess the podcast self-destructs or some such 'theater of the mind' nonsense.   In this inaugural episode, Matt takes on Huey Lewis and the News and their huge hit, Fore!  There is so much to be said about the album, both provocative and interesting, but unfortunately Matt didn't have time for much of that, so you get his track-by-track ramblings and our patent-pending "X-rating." If you have an idea for an album you'd like us to review, leave us a comment here or find us on any of our socials.  Thanks for listening!

2025/08/02
Send us Fan Mail Hey Xer’s!!! It’s mid-summer and you’re toolin through tourist towns, swimming in pools and tubing down rivers. You know, enjoying summer. What are Matt and Jayce up to? Well Matt is crafting ideas and taking his family on vacation to the Yoop. Jayce is busy waging wars against the English Ivy that constantly tries to take over his yard. He has vowed to fight by land, sea and air! Jayce also went to Ludington, MI for a week. While they’re enjoying their summer they put together this fun episode of Jayce guessing if Matt’s bands are real or fake. There is some comedic bits in there. Jayce tells a story about old slang for, well…. I guess you’ll have to listen to see. Also there is more Grindcore than you might think. Tune in and share with your friends or even your enemies. Whatever you choose we hope you enjoy this episode of XRadioX!
Episode 45: The... ???
2025/05/06
Send us Fan Mail Have you ever wondered exactly how many d*ck jokes you should tell in front of your parents and children? Do you know exactly how long a track meet is? Have you ever wondered what music pairs well with certain amorous events in your life? How do you make your 3's, or 4's or 7's? Is it okay to punch your cat if it jumps on your head in the middle of the night? Have you heard that Jayce's dog knows how to work a mechanical bed? Kid Rock sucks but I Am The Bullgod ROCKS!  I wonder if you agree? If any of this keeps you up at night then tune in.  If none of these are questions that keep you up at night I bet you'll think about them now. So friends and future friends sit down and tune in to this episode of XRadioX where we generally talk about music, radio and music on the radio but not today! You've entered, THE RANDOM ZONE!!! Check us out on X, Instagram, Threads (YUP Threads), or Goodpods and tell us how happy you are that WE.  ARE.  BACK. BABY!!!
Episode 44: Mattshimi Battles The Pink Robots
2024/10/30
Send us Fan Mail Hey Xer's, it's Episode 44!  It's titled Mattshimi Battles The Pink Robots in an homage to a classic alternative album you may or' may not have heard of.   This episode...  Where to start?  It started out as one thing, turned into kinda what we though it would be, off-roaded into something else and almost ended on a discussion of would you like to eat the same Oreo at 4:55 everyday on your drive home from work?'  But then it ACTUALLY ended with Jayce telling Program Directors that he doesn't believe a word the consultants are saying when they tell them that radio is attractive to the younger generation.  But Jayce knows how to make it attractive but nobody will listen to him, what does he know.  (Jayce crosses arms and sulks away) Somehow we also had time to compare playlists from two Michigan Active Rock Juggurnauts against one Chatty playlist to see if Matt could sus out the robot.  Did he?  Guess you'll have to listen.  There was also A LOT of Linkin Park talk.  Matt started it, don't come at me.  Remember!  My dog is named Chester.  :) Check us out on... Episode 43: The One Where The Robots Take Over
2024/09/17
Send us Fan Mail Hey Xer's it's the latest and dare I say, most robotic, episode of XRadioX we've ever produced!  Maybe the episode with the fake, robotic baby is a bit more robotic than this one.  Maybe not? Anyway... It's episode 43 and Matt and I tackle the question of Robots and Radio.  Ever since you could automate a cart deck to go to the next cart deck with a tone, radio station owners have been trying to strike that balance of automation, scheduling efficiencies and the eternal question of...  Do I really need these pesky "personalities" to make this station LIVE and LOCAL.   Spoiler Alert...  You do, no matter what your reps tell you. Matt and I do a little talking about AI (Chatty) and how well the algorithm is not only programming your video feeds on YouTube but it's also influencing your music choices.  Think about it...  If you were into alternative college rock in the 90's, how different is your music feed now versus then?  You know it all sounds like late 90's Foo Fighters with a mix of Seven Mary Three, for you know...  Variety.  You can thank your previous music tastes and Spotty for making every song you like to listen to a variation of Monkey Wrench, Hey Man, Nice Shot and Cumbersome...  You know, for variety. Basically whether you like it our not the robots are taking over. We also play a game where I totally kick Chatty's robot ass.  Go on and listen.  You won't be upset. Check us out on the socials.... Episode 41: The One Where We "Fix" Delilah!
2024/06/17
Send us Fan Mail Hey XRadioXers its another month and time for another episode of your favorite podcast and this time we're taking on the evening radio juggernaut...  (cue the bumper) DELILAH!!! (tires screeching to a stop)  You do know who Delilah is right?  You know Delilah...  The evening radio host who is basically the sonic version of Chicken Soup For the Soul.  She is the the warm blanket that can comfort you on a chilly, rainy night.  She's the voice that has stitched together a million broken hearts on your local Adult Contemporary station.  Specifically Cars 108 if you live in Flint, MI. ;) Delilah is kinda like if Oprah and Dear Abby lab built a radio host for middle aged love sick suburban folks who just needed a little musical nudge to say...  thank youI'm sorryI love youdinner is ruinedI failed the testI passed the testJK...  I failed itWe lost the houseThe car broke downDawn hates meReally...  She doesYou don't know DawnBut there's a good reason why she doesI digressAnd Delilah could give you the advice you need and play you a song to fix the situation.  Even if she couldn't fix it she would at least make you feel better about the whole thing. So, if you didn't know that is what the Delilah radio show is all about.  It's the safe space on your radio dial to request relationship advice, get a supportive "atta boy" or just air to the world that you are really sorry about that thing you did to Dawn that one time.  I swear Dawn, IT WAS ONLY ONE TIME!!! So tune in and enjoy XRadioX as we give Delilah a little advice on how she could jazz the show up.  A few new songs to play.  Maybe throw the word Rizz or Skibidi in there to help some of those confused Millenial parents communicate just a little better with their chat.  (Yeah I don't understand what I wrote there either...) Hit us up on  XInstragram & Threads (@xradiox_podcast) Email We are XRadioX!
Episode 40: March Madness Part 2
2024/04/25
Send us Fan Mail XRadioX Fans! We rejoin our heroes as they are faced with deciding if Sonny will come home? Will The Police answer the musical 911 call from within the house? Is "Bette Davis Eyes" a super fun pop song?  SHOULD it be on Jeff's playlist?  Is it... Unforgettable? Or is it forgettable. Can these friends Change The World with a little help from Dionne and her friends? Is Jeff broadcasting from a coffee can?  A box?  A closet?  Your mom's basement? Is Jayce being abducted by aliens mid podcast? Eric... Willy... Dionne... Kim... More Eric...  Shawn... Sting...  Wilson...  Phillips... The World... Chicago...  They're all here!  Battling.  Singing.  And all being done with NO AUTO TUNE!!! Tune in for this final part of our first ever XRadioX March Music Madness Bracket that was unfortunately delayed to April for your listening pleasure. You won't be sorry.  (No actual guarantees that you actually won't be sorry, but I thought the drama of the statement would be pertinent considering the implied drama of all the other statements made.) Enjoy! Send feedback to [email protected] p.s.  Happy Birthday to My Brother.  This episode is posting on your b-day.  This episode isn't directly for you but lets pretend it is because I forgot to get you anything.  ;)
Episode 40: The One With MARCH MADNESS, Part 1
2024/04/24
Send us Fan Mail Hey Xer's!  It's the end of April and what type of episode is everyone clamoring for?  That's right a March Maddness episode.  We know you didn't get enough of Maddness and Brackets in the ACTUAL month of March so we figured we'd give you one in the month of April!  We think you missed March, Maddness and Brackets enough for not one BUT TWO episodes.  You're welcome. This episode features Matt, Jayce and their special guest Jeff debating and picking winners when if comes to Grammy winning songs of the 80's versus the 90's.  We'll be debating such heavy hitting matchups like Sailing versus From A Distance and Always on My Mind versus Tears in Heaven.  Talk. About. A. Slugfest!!! Matt has a hot take about Beyonce and her new record and Jayce spins a yarn about hands in his pants and they weren't his!  Maybe the poop story made the cut...  Maybe it didn't.  I guess you'll have to listen. Please enjoy this episode and within a day of publishing this we'll put up part two. Enjoy and feel free to send feedback to [email protected]
