Voicemail Application Server (VMAS) is a scalable carrier-grade SIP Application Server. The VMAS implements the application logic that determines the handling and disposition of calls destined to the Voicemail system. In case of guest access, the VMAS controls the MRF to establish an RTP connection between the MRF and the MGW to play an audio greeting and to allow the caller the option to record an audio message on the MRF. The VMAS manages the recording of the message and upon completion controls the uploading of the message to its Data Store role. In case of subscriber access, the VMAS will control the MRF to establish an RTP connection between the MRF and the MGW to allow various options to the caller (including listening to the messages in his inbox, saving/deleting messages, changing personal preferences, managing greetings, etc.). The VMAS also manages the notifications for voicemail messages. The notifications depend on the type of notification method chosen by the subscriber. VMAS also contains the Data Store role, mentioned above. Data Store provides the abstraction layer between the clients and data storage. VMAS also has an interface for the provisioning operations. The VMAS provisioning part interfaces to the operator’s provisioning system, to provision subscribers in the Scylla DB. The provisioning operation includes Create, Retrieve, Update and Delete function. VMAS also enables the REST API for various clients, which allows the operator to build its own Web Portal. Web Portal is not in scope of this project, but the REST interface can be used for other purposes, e.g. PIN retrieval. It can be used also for mailbox access by Customer Care or Police. There are two APIs provided by the VMAS provisioning role. One for provisioning, second for mailbox access. Provisioning API is expected to be used by WindTre’s Provisioning system, Mailbox access API is expected to be used by Operational & Customer care team. The access to the API is not limited, e.g. Customer Care can also use Provisioning API, e.g. to read the user profile if needed.
