Q on Queue 114: Daily Bread, Not Weekly Survival
2026/05/27
Send us a message
In general, as a society, I think a lot of people are more exhausted than they even realize - not because they never rest, but because their entire life has quietly become a cycle of surviving until the next break. This means we push hard, crash, recover just enough, and then start the whole process over again. There’s nothing wrong with looking forward to rest. But when your entire emotional stability depends on constantly escaping the current season, eventually even the breaks stop feeling restorative.
Learning how to finish well also means learning how to live differently in the middle of ordinary life - not just during vacations, weekends, or emotional emergencies. Recovery matters. Rest matters. Breaks matter. But if your normal rhythm constantly empties you, then eventually even good rest starts feeling like a temporary bandage instead of true renewal. You were not designed to only come alive during time off.
This week we wrap up our "Refuel" series by talking about "daily bread" and why it's so more important than weekly survival. We need to establish some consistent nourishment and a rhythm of dependence and renewal that is woven into ordinary life. Because sustainable living is rarely built through occasional escapes - it’s built through small daily rhythms that help keep us grounded along the way.
Q on Queue 113: Finish Well, Not Just Fast

As the finish line of a demanding season comes into view, it’s easy to slip into survival mode - just trying to make it through the week, the month, or the school year. But in this third episode of the "Refuel" series, we talk about the difference between simply finishing fast and actually finishing well. Because when we rush emotionally toward the end, we often stop being fully present in the moments, relationships, and responsibilities still right in front of us.
This episode is an honest and encouraging conversation about staying intentional when you’re tired, resisting the urge to emotionally check out, and learning how to close a season with presence, gratitude, and purpose. Whether you’re in education, ministry, leadership, or just navigating a demanding season of life, this conversation will challenge you to slow down enough to notice what still matters before the season is over.

Not everything that feels like rest truly restores us. Sometimes we confuse escape with renewal, filling our free time with distractions that temporarily help us disconnect without actually replenishing the deeper parts of us that are worn down.
In this second episode of this 4-part series, we explore the difference between chasing relief and building healthy patterns that truly sustain us. This conversation is especially for teachers, caregivers, parents, ministry leaders, and anyone who spends their life pouring into others. Through practical reflection and spiritual insight, we look at how real renewal is often found not in dramatic escapes, but in small, consistent patterns that reconnect us to peace, purpose, and the strength we need for everyday life.
Q on Queue 111: Running on Empty

It's almost the end of the school year. For school staff, many at this point of the year are just exhausted - but it's way more than being just tired, it's depletion. There’s a difference. Tired can be fixed with rest. Depletion runs deeper. It shows up when you’ve been giving, carrying, and pouring out for a long time without enough space to be refilled. You can still show up, still do your job, still keep everything moving—but something underneath it all just feels… off.
The goal isn’t to push through and ignore it - it’s to pay attention to it. Because those signals aren’t weakness, they’re feedback. When we slow down enough to recognize what’s draining us and what actually restores us, we begin to move out of survival mode and into something more sustainable. Not perfect and not instant, but more aware, more grounded, and more aligned.
In this first episode of a 4-part series I'm calling "Refuel - Finishing Well Without Running Dry", we talk about "Running on Empty" - what it feels like to simply not have any more to give AND how we can address it and point ourselves to a path to replenishment when we look in the right places. Though this series is themed for teachers, it's applicable to anyone who is at a point in their life when they just feel they have run out of what they have to give.
Q on Queue 110: Placed On Purpose
2026/04/22

I called this series Context Changes Everything because the way we see our value, our purpose, and even ourselves is often shaped less by who we are and more by WHERE we are. When the context shifts, clarity follows, and things that once felt uncertain start to make a lot more sense.
After talking about considering whether we're in the wrong room or haven't realized our value, our conversation shifts today to consider how to understand our purpose within our placement. Because the goal isn’t to spend your life chasing the “right room.” The goal is to recognize how to live well in the room you’re in, while also learning how to discern if and when it’s time to move.
Q on Queue 109: What Actually Determines Worth?
2026/04/08
Send us a message
What am I using to measure my worth? Because if we don’t define that clearly, we’ll spend a lot of our lives chasing something that was never meant to hold that kind of weight. For some of us, we measure our value based on what our society says, asking questions like: Did I get enough done? Did I perform well? And then: Who noticed? Did it get recognized? And even: How do I stack up compared to everyone else?
Today, we dig into how we tend to allow those around us and what we experience to shape our worth, instead of relying on a deeper foundation that doesn’t shift nearly as easily. Instead of starting with performance, it starts with identity. God created each of us with intention - with a calling here on this earth. Most people say they believe that wholeheartedly, but live their lives based on how society values us instead.
In this second part of the "Context Changes Everything" series, we discuss why it's so important not to focus on the first, but instead allow ourselves to focus on our uniqueness, our calling, and the worth that our Heavenly Father has given each of us.
Q on Queue 108: The Wrong Room

Think about any time you've purchased a bottle of water. In a large pack, that single bottle might be worth $.25 or less. In a large sports arena, that bottle costs $10 or more. What changed? Not the water, but the environment. One of the hardest things for us to recognize in life is that environments don’t just reflect value - they can actually reshape how you see yourself. You can walk into a space with a pretty healthy sense of who you are, what you bring, and what you care about… and over time, that clarity can start to shift. Not because YOU have changed, but because the feedback you’re getting, or not getting, begins to redefine the way you interpret your own worth.
In this first part of our new series "Context Changes Everything", we talk about recognizing our value and how being in the wrong environment can often change our perception of who we are and how much value God places in us.
Q on Queue 107: Courage at the Crossroads
2026/03/17
Send us a message
Eventually, after the burnout questions, after the holy discontent, and after the ordinary faithfulness, many people find themselves standing at a moment where a decision actually has to be made. That’s what today’s conversation is about - the crossroads. At some point in life, almost everyone arrives at this point for one aspect of their life or another. When people imagine a crossroads moment in life, they often picture something dramatic. But in real life, crossroads rarely look like that. Most of the time, they’re much quieter—and much harder to interpret.
More often than not, a crossroads begins with a question that simply won’t go away. Something in you keeps asking, “Is this still where I’m supposed to be?” Or maybe, "Is there something else I’m supposed to be doing with what I’ve been given?” Today we explore how we handle these "crossroads" and the courage we need to find to make that decision between staying put with new perspective or making a change.
Q on Queue 106: Obedience in the Ordinary
2026/03/09
Send us a message
We've talked in the last two episodes about Burnout and Holy Discontent. Burnout - when we are just plain worn out and tired, but our job isn't over. Holy Discontent - when there's something stirring in us for something better and new. Sometimes peace lifts because God is deepening something in us. But here’s the tension: once you recognize holy discontent, the temptation is to assume movement must follow immediately. But, sometimes the next step after holy discontent… is obedience in the ordinary.
Why? Because discernment doesn’t always lead to dramatic transition. Sometimes it leads right back to your desk, your classroom, your kitchen, or your inbox. There is a particular kind of obedience that feels unimpressive. It’s doing the thing in front of you without resentment building a quiet case against your life.
This is where we quietly decide who we’re becoming. And in that moment - in that place - we find our ability to be obedient in the ordinary.

In the last episode, we talked about burnout, and how it has a way of shrinking your perspective. Sometimes we mistake burnout for a disruption in our calling, and oftentimes we just need to pause and rest and not completely hit the "reset" button.
But today, in part two of our "Right Place, Right Time" series, we’re going to turn the tables a bit. What about when the restlessness doesn’t fade after a weekend off? What if it sharpens instead of disappearing when you finally catch your breath?
Instead of burnout, it could be the start of what I call "holy discontent" - when instead of screaming, “Get out and do something new,” it quietly asks, “Are you ready for more?” It's that persistent nudge that something in your life needs to grow, change, or deepen. It’s like an internal tap on the shoulder that doesn’t go away.
Q on Queue 104: Burnout is NOT a Calling

When you’re overwhelmed, stretched thin, and running on fumes, everything starts to look like a problem - your job, your ministry, your relationships, even your purpose. But what if the issue isn’t your location… it’s that just your just plain burned out?
In this first episode of our new series "Right Place, Right Time", we take a real look at what burnout feels like, how it disguises itself as “discernment,” and why big decisions made from a tired place rarely lead to peace. I’ll share practical reflection steps and a spiritual perspective that can help you slow down before you make a move you might regret.
If you’ve been questioning whether you’re in the right place, this conversation is for you.
Q on Queue 103: Renewal of the Heart
2026/02/16
Send us a message
You can have a renewed mindset and a re-centered sense of purpose, and yet carry a quiet heaviness that doesn’t quite lift. That’s often because renewal isn’t complete until it reaches the heart. The heart is where our desires live, where our wounds linger, and where fatigue tends to hide the longest.
There’s a kind of tiredness that doesn’t show up on the surface. It isn’t physical exhaustion, and it doesn’t always come with obvious discouragement. It’s the tiredness of the heart - a subtle tiredness that builds over time, especially in people who care deeply and carry a lot.
In this last episode of the renewal series, we focus on why the renewal of our mind, our purpose, and our actions all centers around the renewal of our heart.
Q on Queue 102: Renewal of Purpose
2026/02/10
Send us a message
In the last couple of episodes, we’ve been talking about renewal - what it means to be restored, and how renewal begins quietly in the way we think. When our minds start to shift, clarity begins to return. But clarity doesn’t stay abstract for long. Eventually, renewed thinking asks a deeper question: What is this shaping me toward? Because when the mind begins to renew, it naturally leads us to purpose.
How we think influences how we choose, how we prioritize, and how we move forward. Purpose often blurs because life piles on top of it. Expectations grow. Schedules tighten. People rely on us. Over time, purpose can quietly shift from something we live from into something we simply carry. And when that happens, even good work can start to feel draining instead of life-giving.
Renewal isn’t meant to stop at perspective - it’s meant to guide direction. So if purpose feels unclear right now, let this be reassuring: confusion is not failure. Blurriness is often a signal that renewal is needed. And renewal doesn’t mean starting over; it means returning to the breath that first gave life to your purpose.
Q on Queue 101: Renewal of the Mind
2026/01/27
Send us a message
Our minds are constantly being filled - by responsibilities, expectations, information, comparison, fear, and urgency - sometimes all at once. We learn to live with “mental noise” the same way we learn to live with background sound, until it’s so constant we forget it’s even there. What we think shapes how we live. It influences how we see ourselves, how we respond to others, and how we understand our faith.
Renewing the mind isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about noticing where our thinking has become rushed, rigid, or rooted in fear rather than truth. It’s about allowing ourselves to return to a sense of clarity. So in this episode the invitation is to pay attention to the inner dialogue you’ve been carrying. Because renewal doesn’t begin with answers - it begins with awareness. And the mind is where that work takes its first breath.
Q on Queue 100: Renewal

One hundred episodes. It represents a journey that didn’t always feel clear or easy, but one that continued anyway. If you’ve been listening for a long time, thank you for being here. And if this is your first episode, I’m really glad you found your way in today.
I am not one that really sets resolutions, but instead I choose a word for the year - a word that becomes my focus for literally everything - that guides my thinking, my actions, and any changes I seek to make. For 2026, that word is RENEWAL. Showing up consistently - in our work, our relationships, our faith - can slowly wear us down in ways we don’t always notice until we’re tired. And worn things don’t need to be replaced - they need to be renewed.
So as we celebrate 100 episodes, know that today isn’t about wrapping things up or putting a bow on the past. It’s about naming where we’ve been, acknowledging what this journey has required, and opening ourselves to what God wants to restore in us next. Episode 100 is an invitation. And it’s where this next journey of Q on Queue begins.
