#SHN: Curating with Care
2026/03/19
Sascia Bailer and Kemê Pellicer discuss curating and care, as well as the opportunities and limitations these have in the field of art and culture relating to precariousness, politics, and lived realities.
This conversation was recorded on 24th February 2025.
You can download Sascia Bailer's book for free: Sascia Bailer (2024) Caring Infrastructures. Transforming the Arts through Feminist Curating.
Sascia Bailer is a feminist researcher, writer and curator working at the intersection of care, gender, and socially engaged art. In her doctoral dissertation she investigated the ambivalent relationship between curating and care, and formulated propositions towards caring infrastructures within the arts. In 2019/2020 she initiated a participatory curatorial programming on care as the Artistic Director of M.1 Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung in rural Northern Germany. Together with Didem Yazici, she curated the exhibition “Mothers*, Warriors, and Poets: Care as Resistance” (2023) at StadtPalais Stuttgart. She is the author of the article “Care for Caregivers. Curating against the Care Crisis” (in: “Curating with Care”, Routledge, 2023) and of the booklet “Curating, Care, and Corona” (Verlag der Arthur Boskamp Stiftung, 2020). She co-edited the anthology „Letters to Joan“ (2020, HKW) and the artist monographies „Re-Assembling Motherhood(s): On Radical Care and Collective Art as Feminist Practices“ by Maternal Fantasies (Onomatopee, 2021), and „What We Could Have Become: On Queer Feminist Filmmaking“ by Malu Blume (Onomatopee, 2021). She regularly writes for Monopol magazine on art, care, and gender justice. She has worked internationally within the arts, including MoMA PS1, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, and Vera List Center for Art and Politics.

#SHN x EMMA: Katse näkyvyyden politiikkaan – keskustelu vallasta, representaatioista ja ennakkoluuloista
2025/03/17
Osana #StopHatredNow 2024 ohjelmaa, EMMAssa järjestettiin paneelikeskustelu vallasta, representaatioista, ennakkoluuloista sekä näkyvyyden politiikasta keskiviikkona 15.5.2024.
Keskustelemassa Päiviö Maurice Omwami ja Wanda Holopainen. Moderaattorina Monica Gathuo.

#SHN23: Clean money – Art funding and its transparency (with Terike Haapoja, Bassam El Baroni and Ervin Latimer)
2023/05/19
How are art institutions funded, and where is the money coming from? What kind of financial support should institutions accept? How do artists and activists utilise soft power, for example in the recent Kiasma strike, and what effects can it have? Moderated by Ervin Latimer, with guests Terike Haapoja and Bassam El Baroni.
Terike Haapoja is a Brooklyn based artist. In her installations, writings and collaborations, Haapoja explores possibilities for non-violent coexistence, focusing especially on multi-species politics. She was one of the core organisers of the recent kiasma strike. Bassam El Baroni is associate professor of curating and art mediation at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Aalto University. His most recent research engages with issues such as financialization in relation to artistic practices, AI and curating, artists’ engagement with infrastructural futures and histories, and new forms of artist-led activism. Ervin Latimer is a fashion and print designer, and the founder of deady-to-wear label Latimmier. Alongside design work Latimer writes and lectures on the intersections of queer-culture, anti-racism, masculinity and fashion.
#SHN23: Tunnetyö taiteessa ja aktivismissa (keskustelemassa Sunná Káddjá Valkeapää, Michelle Siriya Orenius ja Javiera Marchant Aedo)
2023/05/18
- Javiera Marchant Aedo
Minkälaista tunnetyötä odotetaan rodullistettuun vähemmistöön kuuluvalta taiteilijalta verrattuna norminmukaisiin sellaisiin? Kuinka aktivistit ja taiteilijat voivat hoitaa ja auttaa itseään ja toisiaan? Ja miten luoda tunneyhteys taiteen ja aktivismin kautta toisiin ihmisiin? Vieraina Michelle Siriya Orenius ja Sunná Káddjá Valkeapää, moderaattorina Javiera Marchant Aedo.
Michelle Siriya Orenius on suomalais-thaimaalainen Helsingissä asuva taiteilija; näytelmäkirjailija, käsikirjoittaja, ohjaaja ja dramaturgi. Sunná Káddjá Valkeapää on saamelais-karjalainen taiteilija ja kuvittaja. Javiera Marchant Aedo on tamperelainen ihmisoikeusaktivisti, yhdenvertaisuuskouluttaja, meemimestari & totaaliyksinhuoltaja.

Mira on yksi palkitun Punch Up! – Resistance & Glitter -klubin perustajista.
