FS 76: "Food's that pretend to be healthy" pt. II featuring Becky Hanson
2026/09/09
What actually makes a food “healthy”? In this special Fit with Beck, CommUNITY Call crossover, Josh and Austin are joined by Becky to talk about foods that wear a health halo and why things like granola, smoothies, protein bars, salads, nut butters, coffee, and the flood of “high-protein” products aren’t always what they seem. We break down how marketing, portion sizes, calorie density, protein content, ingredients, and even our own assumptions can influence the way we view food. And yes, we roast a few foods along the way, but mostly because we’ve fallen for plenty of the same tricks ourselves. The goal isn’t to label foods as good or bad. It’s to give you better tools to ask: What is this food actually doing for me? Does it fill me up? Does it support my goals? And am I choosing it because it works for me or because the packaging told me it was healthy? If you’ve ever said, “But I eat really healthy…” this one is for you.
FS 75: Breakfast Foods We Keep in Rotation
2026/08/31
Episode 75 is all about breakfast—the meals we keep coming back to, why simple usually wins, and how having a few reliable go-to options can make eating well a whole lot easier. We break down our favorite breakfast rotations, talk protein, smoothies, eggs, leftovers, convenience, and whether breakfast food even needs to be “breakfast food.” As always, the conversation drifts beyond the plate, with a few debates, some laughs, and a deeper question for each of us to close things out. If you’re looking for easy breakfast ideas that are realistic, filling, and repeatable, this one’s for you.
FS 74: “The Foods That Pretend to Be Healthy”
2026/08/17
We start with the foods that have somehow earned a healthier reputation than they may deserve. We break down the reality of "health" around things like granola, smoothies, protein bars, salads and other foods that can absolutely fit into a healthy diet, but aren’t automatically the best choice just because the label says so. The bigger lesson: context, portions, protein, calories and your goals matter more than clever marketing. Then, like most Familiar Strangers episodes, the conversation takes a turn. Josh asks Austin what qualities he sees from their parents showing up in himself now that he’s a father. Austin flips the question toward sports, sending the brothers down memory lane reminiscing about games, moments, family and the memories that stick with you long after the scoreboard stops mattering. Nutrition, fatherhood, sports and a little nostalgia—pretty standard Familiar Strangers.
FS 73: What’s the “Right” Body Fat Percentage?
2026/08/10
What’s actually a healthy body fat percentage—and is lower always better? This week, Austin and Josh break down body fat for men and women, the difference between getting lean and actually living lean, and why chasing abs might not be the health goal people think it is. We talk about athletic versus sustainable body fat levels, strength, hormones, energy and performance. As always, we finish with a few questions to get to know each other a little better—and probably learn a few things we didn’t need to know.
FS 72: Austin & Dani's 2nd Anniversary Episode
2026/07/27
Austin and Dani are celebrating two years of marriage and somehow they’ve packed about a decade of life into it. Since saying “I do,” they’ve bought a house, moved, navigated Dani’s career as a full-time remote teacher, watched Austin leave factory life to pursue personal training and a teaching degree, and welcomed their son, Frazier, into the family. In this episode, we look back on the expectations versus reality of marriage, the chaos of becoming new parents, building a home and traditions, and learning how to stay on the same team when life keeps changing. We also look ahead at the kind of marriage, family, and future they’re working to create. There’s plenty of reflection, a little unsolicited brotherly advice, and rapid-fire questions designed to expose who really runs the house. Spoiler: it’s probably Frazier.
FS 71: Home vs Gym Workouts
2026/07/13
Home workouts or gym workouts—which one is actually better? In Episode 71, we break down the pros, cons, excuses, benefits, and realities of both. From convenience and consistency to equipment, motivation, and results, we discuss how to choose the training setup that fits your life and keeps you moving forward.
FS 70: "The Brolympics"
2026/06/29
In Episode 70, Josh and Austin create the ultimate Adult Field Day to answer one very important question: which brother is actually more capable? They draft challenges designed to test strength, endurance, practical skills, problem-solving, and the ability to stay calm while your brother gives you completely unnecessary advice. From carrying awkward objects and changing tires to navigating without GPS and starting a fire, no adult skill is safe. There are no participation trophies, no orange slices, and definitely no excuses. Just brotherly competition, questionable confidence, and the possibility that neither of them is as prepared as they think.
FS 69: "Built for the Apocalypse"
2026/06/08
Episode 69 gets a little weird in the best way. We start with one simple question: if the zombie apocalypse happened tomorrow, who in the family is actually surviving? What begins as a ridiculous survival draft turns into a deeper conversation about family, responsibility, and the strange moment when you realize you are crossing the threshold into becoming the people others depend on. We talk about our mom’s birthday, the family traditions that keep people connected, and how those small moments become a big part of what holds a family together. Of course, we still debate who has the best chance of making it when the world goes sideways — who’s useful, who’s panicking, who’s getting left behind, and who might secretly be built for chaos. This episode is funny, meaningful, and very Familiar Strangers: a little fitness, a little family, a little nonsense, and a real reminder that life is better when you can laugh through the serious stuff.
FS 68: "The Most Underrated Health Habit"
2026/06/05
In Episode 68, we’re talking about getting outside and remembering how much better life feels when we step away from screens, noise, and the busyness of everyday life. We break down the importance of being outside for our physical health, mental health, stress, energy, sleep, and overall perspective. From sunlight and fresh air to walks, hikes, family memories, and quiet moments in nature, we talk about why getting outside does not have to be complicated to be powerful. This conversation is a reminder that health is not only built in the gym or kitchen. Sometimes it starts with a walk around the block, coffee on the porch, a weekend in the woods, or simply taking a few minutes to breathe outside. We also reflect on how outdoor experiences have shaped us, why nature helps us slow down, and how families can create meaningful memories by spending more time together outside. If you have been feeling stressed, stuck, tired, or disconnected, this episode is our reminder to go touch grass, get some sunlight, and feel human again.
FS 67: "How to Talk Good"
2026/05/26
Communication is one of those skills that shows up everywhere — in family, coaching, teaching, relationships, and the way we talk to ourselves when life starts changing. In Episode 67, we talk about the people and experiences that have shaped the way we communicate. Austin opens up about a major decision in his life: going back to school to pursue a college degree, why now feels like the right time, and what it means to invest in yourself at the right stage of life. Josh and Austin also talk through what communication looks like in the classroom, especially when working with kids, and how those lessons carry over into real life. Josh reflects on his teaching career, the challenges of education today, and the honest reality of being able to guide others well in one setting while still struggling to apply that same wisdom outside of it. This episode is about timing, growth, self-awareness, and learning how to communicate in a way that actually connects.
FS 66: "PPL or Full Body? Building Strength That Fits Your Life"
2026/05/13
This week on Familiar Strangers, we break down one of the most common strength training questions: should you follow a full body workout plan or a push-pull-legs split? We talk through the pros and cons of both, who each style is best for, and why the “best” plan usually depends on your experience level, schedule, recovery, goals, and season of life. Whether you’re trying to build muscle, lose fat, get stronger, or simply become more consistent, this episode will help you think through what training structure actually fits you. At the end of the episode, Austin brings the conversation home with a family-centered question that reminds us why these conversations matter beyond the gym. We talk about keeping our family spirit alive, honoring the people still with us, remembering those who have passed, and creating the kind of conversations we believe more families need to have. Tune in for training advice, brotherly perspective, and a reminder that building strength is not just physical — it’s also about connection, legacy, and the stories we continue to carry forward.
FS 65: “From Limiting Beliefs to Life-Changing Moments”
2026/04/20
In this episode, we break down the most common limiting beliefs we see in clients and everyday life—and how those thoughts quietly hold people back from real progress. Then we shift gears as Dani Fritch joins us to share the powerful story of bringing their son Frazier into the world. From mindset to motherhood, this episode is a reminder of resilience, growth, and what people are truly capable of.
FS 64: "The 3 Foods We Don’t Keep Around"
2026/04/07
This week we flip the script and talk about the 3 foods we don’t keep on hand—and why sometimes what you remove matters just as much as what you add. We get into simple ways to clean up your environment, make better daily choices, and keep things realistic. Short, honest, and to the point. If you’re looking to build better habits without overcomplicating it… this one’s for you.
FS 63: "The 5 Movements That Matter Most"
2026/04/03
There’s a difference between looking strong… and actually being useful. In this one, we talk about the five movements that hold up over time. The stuff that keeps you independent, capable and a little harder to break. But like always, it’s more than just fitness. We end up talking family, values and the quiet traditions that shaped us. The things we realize as adults that our parents nurtured. And trying to make sense of what you keep and what you leave behind. Thanks for listening! Josh & Austin
FS 62: "The 3 Foods We Don’t Skip"
2026/03/28
We kept this one real simple—3 foods we don’t skip and why they matter. If you’ve been overthinking your diet, this is your reminder to focus on what you can add, not what you need to cut.
