Andy naively books an Airbnb in a rough part of San Antonio.  "So, the $39 per price tag did not clue you in?" What decisions have you made that cause you to shift or rethink your strategy of life or business? This couple in San Antonio took advantage of a changing neighborhood to renovate and get in on the ground floor of a revitalization effort. What opportunities are you seeing around you that excite?  What do you need to do to get involved or invent solutions to new problems? As we grow and mature, we are trying to grow and succeed.  Sometimes our efforts can slowly (or quickly) cause  us to drift away from our original mission.  It can also complicate life way more than it needs to be. Andy starts by talking about the Bible and the feeding of the 5,000.  In the passage located in John 6...Philip has no idea how they can possibly feed the huge crowd that has assembled, but Andrew makes friends with a kid and offers the kid's lunch as a potential solution.  Andrew doesn't know, but he knows a guy!  This is Andy's skill. What are the things you do well?  Gisele explains how she is good at everything.  Both of her parents, are highly skilled and Gisele got blessed with the combination. Some people do a few things really well and so people enjoy learning how to do everything.  Both types of folks are super helpful to have in organizations. We take a quick tangent talking about making space in your day to think and ponder life.  Your brain will continue to work on the problems you need to solve.  Get the book called The Chaos Imperative.  The book talks about the conditions necessary for innovation to happen. How do you get yourself to get things done? After trying to look up what EQ stands for in terms of sound levels for podcasting.  We came across the concept of Emotional Quotient (Emotional Intelligence). We discuss in unscripted fashion how we see that play out in our own personal and professional lives.  It is said by some experts to have a greater impact on success than even IQ. Gisele shares at a deep level about how she feels her EQ was negatively impacted by an abusive relationship and how she is beginning to heal from those wounds.   In all things, growth and healing is a long journey.  It requires sustained intention learning, reflection and deliberate action.  It can't be rushed and it is always better to take that journey with people you can trust and who have your best interest in mind. So its not a Bible verse... "Good fences make good neighbors,"  actually comes from the poem "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost.  The sentiment is found in many cultures and the concept is extremely important if one aims to live with both freedom and purpose. Successful people have found a way to create healthy boundaries in life.  Boundaries around what you are going to spend your life doing and what you are not going to do.   How do you decide what you are going to give your life or time to?   Gisele shares her verbal Venn diagram, What you are great at, what you love doing and what you profitable. (how ever you define profit) Andy shares his ADD version of that same concept. Fences tell us what is our responsibility and what is not.  Andy talks about ending the radio show that he has done for the last 15 years.  The point is sometime you have to stop doing old things to make room for new things and opportunities in order to continue growing.
