We're no longer pivoting this year. In this episode, we unpack why we often feel the need to pivot, why our needs being met can either lead us to success and creativity, or keep us right where we are. Unscripted: What Story Are You Living? (Navigating Patterns and Narrating Your Story)
2023/04/17
The patterns that we practice are often at hand in building our story. And, in order for our story to change, we have to change our pattern! In this episode, I'm joined by my friend Farida Labaran (Cardiac Surgery RN), and we unpack the patterns that have kept us stagnant in romantic relationships, friendships, and our own personal journey, and dive into how we narrate our life's stories. As you join us in conversation, I invite you to think about: What patterns you've allowed yourself to adapt due to unhealed hurt? What or whose voice are you inviting to narrate your story? Connect with us on social media: Instagram: @pivotandthrive @joyubani_ @reeedz_ (Farida Labaran) P.S. Please excuse the friendly dog chatter (barking) in the background! Totally unexpected razzle dazzle in this episode. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pivotandthrive/support
It's You Season: Shifting to fullness and daring greatly.
2023/03/06
How do you know when you're truly living in fullness and fruitfulness? Do you find yourself shrinking back or hiding the bits of you that make you excellent? In this short but sweet solo episode, I reflect on my recent homecoming to London (after almost 4 years, being awakened to the fullness of self, reasons we shrink instead of thrive, and differentiating escape versus pivoting. Journey with me to uncover: - giving ourselves permission to escape (especially when things at home are not fruitful. - challenging every insecurity that prevents us from living in fullness - daring greatly to pay attention to areas that need healing, growing, and radical honesty. The Reckoning of Readiness: Relationships, compromise, and the cost of the pursuit.
2023/02/13
How do you know when you are genuinely ready for a healthy relationship? Are you more or less willing to compromise your values as you age? How do you define, identify, and express your needs in a relationship in order for it to be successful? In this episode, I'm joined by my friends, Tope Ajala and Makando Mutanda, for an intimate and reflective conversation on readiness.  Join us to discover:  Why we self-sabotage (potentially healthy) relationships.  How to apply grace and when to sacrifice in order to relate to and serve your partner.  Identifying the core values that enable us to be less flexible with what we require from our partners and in relationships.  Understanding how our experiences, traumas, and history of relationships greatly impact how we want to be pursued and how we also pursue.  And finally,  The reckoning of readiness with practical ways to gauge what you need, and release yourself or your partner when you are beyond your window of tolerance. Romantic relationships are beautiful but extremely complex, as two individuals with different perspectives strive to understand themselves, and one another. Oftentimes, the more we understand ourselves, the less willing we are to budge when it comes to our needs being met within these relationships. However, that comes with the readiness of doing the deep work to get to a place of self-awareness and willingness to sacrifice. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pivotandthrive/support

2022/12/04
Have you ever felt as though you've failed after an unsuccessful relationship? Often, we tell ourselves a relationship is only successful if we achieve marriage -- forgetting the importance of setting achievable goals (in everything), and failing to realize we only have control over 50% of our relationships. In Part 2 of "The Intricacies of Success", I'm joined by Claud Williams, founder of Dream Nation. In this episode, Claud shares the fortright realitiy of defining success in purpose and romantic relationships. The Audacity of Self-Advocacy
2022/04/15
Within career development, relationships (friendships and romantic), self-advocacy is arguably the most important skill, or confidence hack, to master if you want your needs met. So often do we sit beyond our window of tolerance when our needs are not being met, and instead choose to cope with the discomfort that prohibits us from actualizing our full potential and thriving. Consider for a moment what would happen if we actively choose to be our own advocate and approach everything with audacity. In this episode, I reflect on my experiences within my job(s) where advocating was necessary. I am joined by my good friend, Nkechi, who is an Associate Director of Human Resources, and blogger/influencer over at @corporate_curly, where we discuss: identifying your needs; resources and support managers/directors should provide within a work place; and acknowledging quitting as a form of self-advocacy. The Alchemy of Release: Finding liberation in letting go (Feat. Solange, Tayo, & Seyi)
2022/03/01
This week I'm joined by my friends Solange Noel Sanji, Tayo Adesina, and Seyi Famuyiwa for a powerful and thought-provoking episode on letting go. Join me to discover: - [ ] Why we have difficulties letting go of our perception of (former) self, - [ ] Why letting go can feel like failure - [ ] How not letting go (can be) a form of control - [ ] and How to discern when to persist (instead of let go). As we talk over drinks, Solange shares her raw and honest process with letting go of limiting beliefs after heartbreak. Tayo shares what practical release is within his marriage and inner-most thoughts. And Seyi walks us through finding strength to release, and responding to you inner child who is fearful of the unknown gap between letting go and receiving, once we have opened our hands. The Art Of Financial Alignment: Money management in marriage, while dating, and while single.
2021/08/12
"How much do you have in your bank account? How much do you make? Are we splitting bills, dinner, mortgage evenly?" These and so many more financial questions we should (or avoid) asking while dating, thriving as a single individual, or with family members. In this episode, I sit down with my some of my older siblings (who have each helped improve my relationship with money), and discuss the heart of financial growth: alignment. We offer practical steps and questions you should ask yourself, your partner, your friends, and maybe your co-workers. Grab a drink, open up your excel spreadsheet (to get your budget together), and let's get into it. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pivotandthrive/support
Identifying & Recovering from Burnout
2021/06/14
Juggling multiple pursuits, and feeling as though I was struggling to fit into my "I-can-do-it-all" persona, I recently had a hard realization that I was experiencing burn out. I took a much needed vacation where I completely unplugged and with clear mind, had the opportunity for self-reflection, rest, and complete peace. I asked myself hard questions, and was joined (virtually) by a few close friends where we talked through and identified what we need to function at our very best (in the midst of juggling multiple pursuits...well). Join me for this thought-filled, and reflective episode unpacking the very essence of rest, burn out, and thriving in the midst of it all. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pivotandthrive/support
