80. The Turning Point that changed Andy Ho's Comedy Career & Birthed HoeyFarmer with Ria Mestiza
2026/03/11
Send us Fan Mail For 10 years, Andy Ho didn't pursue the dream he knew he had deep down.  In this conversation, I sit down with Comedian Andy, also known as HoeyFarmer, to talk about the turning point that changed everything.  As a teenager, Andy knew he wanted to be a comedian. But life took him in other directions, and that dream stayed on hold for almost a decade. It wasn't until he stepped away from the noise of 'Sin City' and spent time working on his father's farm that something shifted. In the quiet, he began reconnecting with himself, and the creativity that would eventually birth the characters, skits and comedy career many people now recognise online.  In this episode we talk about: - The moment he realised he had to pursue comedy - The mindset shift that changed his life - How 'HoeyFarmer' was born - The art and discipline behind comedy - Finding your identity when life feels off track The conversation even ends with a surprise guest appearance from one of Andy's characters. Making people laugh is his superpower after all :)  Andy was performing a show called "Escaping Brisbane" with fellow comedian Sahib Rana at the Adelaide Fringe Festival when we recorded this episode.  You can find Andy Ho Comedian on Instagram and HoeyFarmer on FB, Insta, Tik Tok and YouTube easily, go check him out for more laughs. If you enjoyed this conversation, subscribe for more discussions exploring mindset, reinvention, and the journeys behind interesting everyday superhumans.
79. Willis Chimano: Heavy is the Crown | Identity, Courage & Radical Self-Expression with Ria Mestiza
2026/02/26
Send us Fan Mail Award-winning Kenyan artist and cultural voice Willis Chimano joins me for a powerful conversation on identity, courage and radical self-expression. As a founding member of Sauti Sol, Willis helped redefine contemporary African music on the global stage. Now stepping boldly into his solo era, he speaks openly about what it means to live authentically as a gay man in Africa, the cost of visibility, and the freedom that comes with truth. We explore: • The transition from Sauti Sol to solo artistry • The weight and liberation of authenticity • Masculinity, spirituality and softness • His memoir Heavy Is The Crown • What freedom truly means This is a conversation about strength — not as performance, but as honesty. If you're in Adelaide and want to see him live, his "intimates" shows can be found on the Fringe website for next Friday March 6-8th and his Author Talk is free at the West Torrens library on March 10th.  With Love,  Ria Mestiza Follow Willis, you can find him on all the socials of your choice.
78. Why Did I Do It? Lessons, Regret & Becoming the Man My Son Needed
2026/01/29
Send us Fan Mail This conversation is raw, honest and deeply human. My guest Sam Ghamrawi shares his journey from drug addiction, destructive environments and self-sabotage, to a near-death experience that became the turning point of his life — a moment that, under normal circumstances, could have cost his son everything. We explore regret, responsibility, discipline, and faith, not from a place of perfection, but from lived experience. This is a conversation about asking the hard question: “Why did I do it?” — and having the courage to change the answer through action. Today, he’s committed to being a leader for young boys and men, using his past not as a source of shame, but as a lesson and a responsibility to lead those he teaches to better choices. If you’re a man navigating fatherhood, leadership, personal development, or the weight of past decisions, this episode will meet you where you are.
