If you’ve done everything “right” and still feel stretched thin, boxed in, or quietly wondering is this really it? — You’re in the right place. Episodes blend business strategy, leadership development, and mindset tools to help you: → Build a profitable, sustainable law practice → Lead with clarity, confidence, and credibility → Make smarter business and career decisions → Set boundaries that stick → Define success on your terms You’ll hear solo episodes from Heather alongside honest conversations with experts, each designed to help you course-correct, take back control, and create a legal career that supports your whole life (not just your billables). New episodes drop every Tuesday (Fall, Winter, and Spring). For more information about Heather and the podcast visit: https://www.lifeandlawpodcast.com.

Be the Lawyer Clients Call Before Problems Start (aka the Trusted Advisor)
2026/10/27
Want clients to call you sooner (before issues/problems get out of hand)? Wish they would discuss operational decisions that aren’t purely operational (but have a legal impact)? Want to be involved in clients’ long-term planning? This is what being a trusted advisor to your client is all about. And the benefits are many (and no, it’s not about doing “more work” for them, although that often does happen). Becoming a trusted advisor to your clients is about being their partner. Not just their legal partner, but a someone who is necessary to their business because: - You understand the client's goals before recommending legal action. - You’re better equipped to identify risks while the client still has time to respond. - You’re able to connect legal issues to business priorities, cost, timing, and reputation. Bottom line: Your clients will make better business decisions (with better timing). Risk is reduced. Money is saved. Listen to today’s episode to find out my blueprint for becoming a trusted advisor to your clients. 2026/10/20
Building your law practice takes time. This is something we all know (rationally). And yet… Many lawyers give up before they can see the ultimate results of their efforts. Which is a shame because, often, they give up right before they’re likely to see real results. Tune in for a conversation with former client and lawyer extraordinaire, Cassie Dallas, about how to stay focused, trust your instincts, and keep going before results become visible. Lawyer Self-Advocacy: How to Speak Up, Stand Out
2026/10/06
Lawyers are great at advocating for clients, yet most are terrible at self-advocacy. We need to do better for ourselves. I rarely use the word “should”, but this is one of the times when I make an exception. Self-advocacy is necessary for building a successful and (more importantly) enjoyable legal career. Tune into today’s episode to learn why lawyers tend to be bad at self-advocacy, the necessary mindset shift to begin building this skill, and a simple framework for lawyer self-advocacy that works. Law Firm Operations: How to Get Hours Back Every Week Through Structure
2026/09/29
Law firm operations might sound like a “boring” topic. But what if I told you that having the right structure in place can save you hours each week? What if I told you that this is key to creating a more balanced life? Those two results are definitely not boring. That's exactly what we get into today on Life & Law. Tune into my conversation with Shireen Hilal to learn why moving away from a "person-centric" system to a "process-centric" structure within your law firm (or practice group) will (a) improve how your law firm operates and (b) give you more hours back each week. Inside today’s episode, you’ll learn: - How law firm leaders and partners become the bottleneck, making it impossible to step away or achieve balance. - How systems improve law firm operations, increase employee engagement and improve client service. - How to implement flexible systems, tailored to client needs, business risk, and unique legal issues. Stop Hating Law Firm Politics (It's Part of Leadership)
2026/09/22
“I hate law firm politics. I don’t like playing games.” Said a client. This is a common sentiment (I hear often from clients). But what if what you're calling ‘politics’ is simply what happens when a group of humans with different experiences, priorities, personalities, values, and agendas work together? And what if, by ignoring all the political stuff, you’re actually hurting yourself (not merely staying above the fray)? Join me to learn how to shift your mindset around law firm politics so you can navigate your law firm's politics authentically and effectively (without any gamesmanship). Legal Billing: The Cost of Not Billing Regularly
2026/09/15
If you think legal billing is just an administrative or collections issue, you're missing something important. How often (and even more importantly, how) you bill your clients impacts more than whether you get paid. It impacts how much you collect, client trust, and whether or not a client will continue sending work your way. Listen to today's episode to learn why that is and how to bill in a way that builds trust with clients (hint: there's more to it than just sending a pretty, well narrated bill). Values Alignment Isn't Safe (That's the Point): Let's Talk About Antisemitism
2026/05/12
I talk a lot about values alignment (aligning your law practice to your values). But what, precisely, does that look like in practice? Here's the thing: Values that cost you nothing probably aren't values — they're just words you aren't really standing behind. Yet the cost is worth it. Because NOT aligning to your values costs something, too. That's why I was immediately drawn to Ariella Cohen Coleman. She's a lawyer who built a values-aligned law firm and a nonprofit to support the Jewish community. She speaks openly about antisemitism. Even if it makes others uncomfortable. Even though it could cost her something. She is the real thing. This conversation is about so much: - What it actually takes to build a values-aligned practice. - Lawyer wellbeing (and why it's related to peak performance). - The responsibility lawyers have to speak up about antisemitism (and the role we can play to change course). This conversation is powerful. It's important. Be sure to listen. *** Join Success Without Sacrifice https://www.coursecorrectioncoaching.com/connect/ The post #240: Values Alignment Isn’t Safe (That’s the Point): Let’s Talk About Antisemitism appeared first on Life and Law Podcast.

Why Lawyers Are Meant To Lead (In A Complicated World)
2026/04/07
We live in interesting times (to say the least). Nuance seems to be forgotten. Complexity ignored. And there are little to no conversations being had (about things we need to be having conversations about as a society). For many of us, it's causing anxiety and stress. But what can you actually do about it? Will it make a difference? Listen to learn why lawyers are uniquely equipped to deal with these issues head-on and not just overcome, but lead. And to serve society in the best way we can. ***** Join Success Without Sacrifice (weekly newsletter): https://www.coursecorrectioncoaching.com/connect/ The post #235: Why Lawyers Are Meant To Lead (In A Complicated World) appeared first on Life and Law Podcast.
