Oftentimes, the behind the scenes work of advocacy goes unreported and undiscussed. No advocacy endeavor, big or small, would be possible without the days, weeks, and months of work put in by passionate advocates and leaders. Namely, the work of nonprofits. In Season 3 of Speak Now, we are highlighting and promoting the work of nonprofits and its leadership. Nonprofit leaders devote their life to movement-building, and it’s time we give them our attention. In the first episode of Speak Now, AdPro secretary and team lead Remy Kageyama sat down with Dr. Sydney McKinney, the Executive Director of the National Black Women’s Justice Institute (NBWJI). The episode explores how the NBWJI uses research analysis to contribute to their mission of criminal justice reform for black women and girls. Remy and Dr. McKinney discuss the NBWJI’s work, Dr. McKinney’s seasoned background in advocacy, and what the future looks like for criminal justice reform for black women and girls.

With the advice of an experienced advocate, each webinar equips attendees with rhetorical techniques and productive strategies for engaging in political discourse, advocacy, and activism in an increasingly polarized age. Crashing the Party, the fourth episode in this series, will feature former US Representative Justin Amash, who became the only Libertarian member of Congress in 2019 after a highly publicized split with the Republican party. Amash will discuss when and how to be an effective advocate in the face of intense partisan backlash.
