Excuses are bad, but incredibly powerful! We often use excuses to get out of things we don't really want to do. We also use them to make ourselves feel better for having fallen short of a goal or not doing what we need to get there in the first place. But what if we could use the power of excuses for good? What if we could use them to help us reach our goals instead of not succeeding? We can if we just flip the excuse around! Next time you are going to make an excuse to get out of doing something you should so you can do something you want, reword your excuse and make it for the thing you want to do. This is an old phrase, but still relevant every day. How can we keep from not matching what we value with the time we spend doing it? I offer a strategy to find out what our actions say we value rather than what we say in the video. Take the challenge by examining what you currently do and comparing it to how that shows what you value through action rather than speech. Then take the steps to align your actions and words. Reaching our goals is about more than just setting them and then making a plan. It is often about how we approach the small steps that present themselves every day. Follow the steps I outline to make progress on those small steps that make the bigger picture a reality. Distractions come in many forms, minimize them. Putting lower priority tasks first halts our ability to complete what is needed at the time. Key Points: Focus is not the product of our environment. Instead our environment is the result of our ability to and level of focus.Things like anxiety , poor relationships, and low self-esteem can be improved when we learn to increase our focus in certain areas.Anxiety comes with feelings of being overwhelmed. If we take a step back, focus on the things we can control and narrow down what we try to accomplish, we will notice that progress is being made and what lies in front of us is not so overwhelming.Poor relationships are often the result of a lack of attention or communication. Increased focus on carving our specific time and being present during that time helps increase both of those areas. The result is a better relationship.Self esteem suffers after multiple failures to reach our goals and achieve success. Focusing on the "basics" in a consistent manner sets us up for increased success. Once we reach a few goals, our self esteem begins to increase. Focus is one of the basic elements to success. Without it, we run into multiple problems that always lead to us falling short of our goals. As soon as we turn our attention to what we need to do and shut out the distractions, everything about our situation starts to improve.Don’t Forget to Review the Show! Harvey Hazen was a public school educator for 37 years. He was a teacher, counselor, high school principal and vice principal, middle school principal and district superintendent. During that time Harvey followed the progress of many students' careers as they went off to college. Many of them were less than successful even though they left high school with great academic records. Over the years he talked with many of them. Many reported two things to Harvey. Their program simply seemed to lack relevance and they had a very hard time adapting their learning style to the college demands. Thinking back over his own college career Harvey realized that in the beginning he’d had much the same experience.
