We also share some of the reasons why we feel more comfortable in Black spaces and how they not only give us a sense of worth, pride and joy, but they are also helping us to gain the confidence to introduce ourselves in spaces we had once felt less comfortable or welcomed in. This week I had a chat with my best friend and Filthy Friday supporter Jen, and we covered quite a random bunch of topics. This episode I share a virtual drink with my good friend Carolina (Caroleeeeena). We spoke about the joys and pressures of being a Pole Instructor, delved a little deeper into Carolina’s academic background and learned more about Carolina’s work in Activism. Dr. Carolina Are, aka Blogger On Pole, is a blogger, activist, researcher with a PhD in criminology and a pole instructor. She has been teaching in London since 2019 and online, through Buy Me A Coffee events and tutorials, since the start of the pandemic. Carolina performs under the name Hades, and loves headbanging, split dropping and spinning like a tornado while pole dancing to rock and metal. She's behind various petitions, campaigns and academic papers to fight for more equal moderation of nudity and sexuality on social media, having been one of the founders of #EveryBODYVisible in 2019 and having created a recent petition against Instagram's terms of use that was signed by over 100,000 people.
