Rootward: Letters from the Senses, Smell
2026/07/06
What if one deep breath could reconnect you to a memory, a place, or a part of yourself you've forgotten? In this second episode of Rootward: Letters from the Senses, Stacy and her dear friend and colleague, Seema Sodha, invite you to slow down and explore the sense of smell through voice notes recorded in nature. From a rain-soaked forest in the Netherlands to a humid botanical garden in Athens, Georgia, they reflect on the scents that ground us, the thresholds we all move through, and the practices that nourish us when life feels uncertain.  🌱 In this episode, you'll learn: How the scents around us can awaken memories, emotions, and a deeper connection to ourselves What a rain-soaked forest in the Netherlands reveals about navigating life's in-between seasons A new way of thinking about thresholds and why they can feel both unsettling and transformative How the smell of freshly watered plants carries Stacy back to childhood memories of tending to family gardens An invitation to reflect on what truly nourishes you during seasons of transition Two gentle questions to carry with you on your next deep breath in nature 🌱 Seeds planted in this episode: Listen to Seema and my previous episode "Rootward: Letters from the Senses, Sight" Read or subscribe to Seema's Substack: Chai with Seema Connect with Seema on Instagram 🫘🌱🌿🌷 Are you a sensitive high-achiever who wants to tend to what really matters most from an overflowing [instead of empty] cup? Rootward: Letters from the Senses, Sight
2026/05/08
This episode marks the beginning of a new experimental mini-series, Rootward: Letters from the Senses, where Stacy and her dear friend and colleague, Seema Sodha, exchange intimate voice notes from nature. In this first episode exploring the sense of sight, they reflect on what becomes possible when we slow down enough to truly see the natural world around us and the deeper truths, grief, beauty, and wisdom reflected back within us. Together, they explore what it means to return to our senses, reconnect with the deeper intelligence within, and grow not just forward, but rootward. 🌱 In this episode, you'll learn: Why Stacy and Seema created Rootward as an imperfect, collaborative experiment rooted in connection rather than performance Which late 90s TV show was part of the inspiration for this mini-series How the sense of sight can become a portal for grounding, reflection, healing, and deeper self-awareness What Seema notices while sitting in a forest in the Netherlands, and how it sparks reflections on ancestry, migration, and belonging The difference between constantly moving "forward" versus growing rootward through deepening, integration, and presence How nature can hold grief in ways traditional support spaces sometimes cannot How Stacy's observations in a botanical garden mirror the many different parts within ourselves, alongside a vulnerable reflection on pregnancy loss, Mother's Day grief, and making space for every part of ourselves without judgment The healing power of friendship, voice notes, and being deeply witnessed by another person across distance and difference Two gentle reflection questions to help you notice what nature may be revealing about your own life right now 🌱 Seeds planted in this episode: Listen to Seema and my previous episode "Cultivating Self Trust When Creating Something New" Read or subscribe to Seema's Substack:  Chai with Seema Connect with Seema on Instagram 🫘🌱🌿🌷 Are you a sensitive high-achiever who wants to tend to what really matters most from an overflowing [instead of empty] cup? The Disease to Please with Dr. Reuben Faloughi
2025/07/29
If you've ever felt like you have to shrink your needs to support everyone else, this episode is for you. Dr. Reuben Faloughi joins me to explore how people-pleasing shows up in your life—and how unlearning it can open the door to a deeper, more honest relationship with yourself. This conversation is a reminder that your healing matters. Not just for you—but for all of us. 🌱 In this episode, you'll learn: About some of the twists and turns of my previous year How your people-pleasing may have started as a survival strategy, not a flaw Why it's time to reframe the word selfish as something sacred and necessary What it looks like to let go of programming that taught you to put yourself last How your values can become a powerful GPS for your healing, choices, and leadership What might change when you stop learning on others and start learning from within Why tending to your inner world can create powerful ripple effects in your relationships, work, and communities What it means to come home to yourself—and why that's not just personal, it's political and spiritual too How to notice which patterns and beliefs you've outgrown—and what to do with that awareness The connection between personal healing and collective liberation A powerful reorientation: You are not responsible for your early programming. You are responsible for what you choose now. Your reflection question: What's one belief or pattern that you inherited but might be ready to lovingly let go of? 🌱 Seeds planted in this episode: Visit Dr. Reuben's website. Pursue Your Passion with Bryan Pangilinan
2024/07/08
Have you felt the excitement (and terror!) that comes along with pursuing your passion? If you have, you'll love this episode featuring Bryan Pangilinan, composer, artist, singer, producer, CEO, husband and bird dad. In this episode, Bryan shares his journey of outgrowing the grind and pursuing his passion for music, leading to the creation of the musical Larry the Musical: An American Journey about Filipino American labor leader Larry Itliong. 🌱 In this episode, you'll learn: About a pivotal, permission-giving conversation Bryan and I had in a pool in Las Vegas five years ago. How different parts of Bryan's identity as a gay, cisgender, Filipino American male from an immigrant family inform his life and work. Different steps along Bryan's career journey - from moving to San Francisco in the late 90s to serve the Filipino American community during the HIV and AIDS epidemic to his 25+ years of experience as a professional fundraiser.  How performing in a play highlighted the dissonance between how things looked on the outside and how they felt on the inside for Bryan. How overcoming shame and guilt is often a large part of outgrowing the grind. What composing and producing a full-length musical with a 100% Filipino American creative time, cast, and crew that reached 8,000+ people in 23 sold out shows has been like for Bryan and his team. The vivid challenge of the Larry the Musical creative team choosing to continue to pursue their passion amidst steep upfront payroll and production costs and uncertainty. How this experience has taught Bryan and his creative team the importance of dreaming big and how "a dream is not impossible." How Bryan continues to give himself permission on a regular basis. A little bit about the musical that Bryan's creating now. The "intoxicating, calming, and joyful" national flower of the Philippines that brings Bryan back to growing up in San Diego. Your reflection questions: 1) What percentage of your life (your time, energy, and attention) goes towards what matters most to you? 2) How can you infuse more of what matters most into your life? 🌱 Seeds planted in this episode: Visit Bryan's website. Cultivating Self-Trust When Creating Something New with Seema Sodha
2023/09/01
I'm so excited to introduce you to Seema Sodha, Canadian Indian leadership and executive coach, heart centered facilitator, women's circle holder, and writer. In this conversation, Seema shares about how easily creative endeavors can turn into the grind, especially when we're looking for answers outside of ourselves. 🌱 In this episode, you'll learn: The story of how I first met Seema and what an honor and delight it is to co-create with her. What household object the texture of "the grind" reminds Seema of. How Seema's rigid writing regimen got her more words on the page but missed the heart and soul.  The messages we receive about productivity and action that can get especially loud when we create something new. How Seema shifted her approach to bring more of herself and her unique taste into her writing. The beautiful way Seema engages her senses and self-trust when she writes. How trusting ourselves is an important part of taking our power back, and how it's a nonlinear process. What external forces make it easy for us to hand our power over to someone else and not trust ourselves. How Seema sees the moments we realize we're in the grind as an invitation. How sharing your truth and connecting with others is an antidote to the sneakiness of the grind that wears us down. About our upcoming women's circle where we'll help you explore and befriend your inner good girl / people pleaser. The two herbs from Seema's garden that transform her week. We're joined by my previous client (and longtime hometown friend!) Chelsea Krueger in this episode. Chelsea shares her journey of outgrowing the grind in her relationship with her body. 🌱 In this episode, you'll learn: About the pressure Chelsea felt around what she ate and how she exercised when she was in the grind. How looking to external sources for "the rules" created more stress and burnout. What the grind felt like. A reminder that outgrowing the grind is a journey and not a destination. How Chelsea is outgrowing the Body and Wellness grind by tuning in and trusting herself more.  How permission won't come from someone else (as much as we wish it would!) Chelsea's many sources of support along the journey - and what her trainer, dance class, and coaching with me has helped her realize. The role that compassion plays in giving ourselves permission. Explore Your Emotions
2022/06/06
In this episode, I get real about how easy it is to distract yourself with caring and achieving to avoid feeling how you really feel.   🌱 In this episode, you'll learn: An inspiring quote about feelings by Augusten Borroughs. How [although it's so very tempting] avoiding our emotions doesn't really work. Why our feelings can't shift when we're pouring our energy into other people or into achieving.
