Unsolved Murder in a Small Town (June 1965)
2022/06/27
Justin and Ty talk about a local unsolved murder that occurred on an identical weekend back in 1965. Saturday June 25th, 17 year old Tanya Weber (Web-er) was dropped off by her friends after a post-wedding reception treat at the pizza parlor. Fate would have it that she forgot her purse in the car with her keys in it. She dropped off her boutonniere from the wedding, and the bride's bouquet that she caught on the front porch and started running after the departing car, but she never caught up with it. She was found strangled to death face down a block down the street from her house with her skirt torn and one of her stockings tied around her throat. But who murdered her? Was it the peeping tom who committed suicide a few days later up the canyon? Was it the deviant who sexually assaulted a pregnant woman 5 weeks later? Was it Ty's dad? The crime is officially unsolved. This episode contains talk about murder, sexual assault and violence that may or may not have been committed by Ty's dad. 31. Bombshell Boobies
2022/06/20
Justin and Ty agree on one very big, I mean major pointy, I mean point: Boobs! They like 'em! This episode contains a lot of sexual content, adult themes, politics, drama, comedy, drugs, suicide, and a big conspiracy. And all of it is wrapped around Marilyn Monroe, the iconic blonde bombshell of the 50's who died way too soon in 1962. Was she murdered by the Kennedy's? Was her death intentional or an accident? Honestly, we don't know! But we do know that she suffered from depression, mental problems, drug addiction, and she left this world way too soon. Even though she died young at 36, she is still immortalized forever as the go-to blonde bombshell. Be cautioned, there will be lots of adult themes, spoiler alerts, and trigger warnings regarding drug use and suicide. If you are having any suicidal thoughts, please reach out to somebody. Anybody! 30. Big Brother and the 27 Club
2022/06/13
Ty and Justin discuss a short-lived, but extremely famous rock artist that embodied the 1960's hippie culture the way Courtney Love embodied the grunge culture of the Nirvana 90's. We are speaking of the famous Janis Joplin, a member of the 27 club along side Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain, speaking of Nirvana. Special thanks to John from New York for requesting this topic. Mrs. Joplin had a face for radio, but in Ty's opinion, not a voice for radio. Janis got her real start at the Monterey Pop Music Festival which we discussed a few episodes ago, and by the time Woodstock came around she was a household name among those who attended due to her recognizable raspy voice and mix of blues, folk, country and rock n' roll style that is so commonplace now, but really it was Mrs. Joplin that created it. Ty may not be a big fan of Janis, but no argument can be made that she wasn't an iconic person that accomplished much more in her 27 years, than Ty has in twice that amount of time. Pour a little out of a bottle of Southern Comfort for Janis Joplin, then down the rest of the bottle Janis Joplin style, and if you don't die from that, sit back and enjoy this episode. But seriously, drink responsibly, and seek medical attention if you make poor choices. 29. Another Quiet Night In Modesto
2022/06/06
Ty and Justin review one of the iconic movies of 1960's pop culture American Graffiti starring a lot of stars before they became big and famous and also Ron Howard who was already big and famous. George Lucas's first directed movie, and Harrison Ford's first speaking role. This movie has cars, babes, and a soundtrack that you won't believe jockeyed at you from the one and only Wolfman Jack! This movie put Modesto, California on the map, and follows several intertwined subplots as our main characters deal with their own drama throughout the course of one night that none of them will ever be able to forget.  --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/about-what/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/about-what/support
28. About time we come together!
2022/05/30
Ty and Justin have their first ever in person recording and it was as awkward as a first date. They address the one statistic that the United States undoubtedly leads the rest of the world by a mile in: mass shootings! Are gun rights more important than the lives of little children? What’s worse is that the shooters are getting better at it. The attacks are more and more deadly and the casualties are climbing. Can’t we do something?! ANYTHING!!!? Why is it always back to business as usual with nothing being done to impede the crazies from getting access to assault weapons? Then this episode really goes off the rails and Ty and Justin follow the usual pattern of jumping through topics like a blind cow in a briar patch. Any of you car enthusiasts need to head over to Justin’s online store joltparts.com and use offer code aboutwhat to get 10% off your order over $100! 27. Flower Power and the Monterey Pop Festival of 1967
2022/05/23
Feeling groovy? Peaceful? Feeling like fighting against the man, the establishment, the power? Wanna go live in a commune with like-minded people who will show you a far out way to live? Strap in for the episode about the Music Festival that started it all in the Monterey Fairgrounds June 16-18, 1967. Not only did it kick off the summer of love, but it composed the soundtrack for it as well. Thanks to Monterey, which had 9000 people show up, Woodstock became a million people party! Justin and Ty put on some beads, headbands, round sunglasses, load up in their volkswagon bus, and find out what it means to go to San Francisco with flowers in your hair in this episode that is rated explicit due to some adult themes and language. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/about-what/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/about-what/support

25. No One Rides For Free During a Gas Shortage Crisis
2022/04/25
Justin and Ty discuss the similarities between the gas crisis of 1973 and 1979 and what's going on with gas prices today. Are we in the same pickle or is this a different situation altogether? We also delve into the work force, what's going on with unions making a comeback and Ty's farm and what it's like raising animals and crops, and is it possible to become a farmer today? 24. Tartarian Mudflood: History or Tweenage Wasteland?
2022/04/04
Sometimes history gets rewritten from the skewed version handed down from the victors. One such theory trying to re-write history is the Tartarian Mud Flood theory that a global catastrophic event wiped out an ancient superior civilization that built all the grand old buildings in North America using the same technology that built the pyramids. It's an awesome theory, with a little more evidence to support it than scientology has, but is it really true? Is it even possible? Or is there a better explanation why there are old buildings erected with amazing architecture reminiscent of the great cathedrals of Europe? Justin and Ty delve into this theory and its many facets, and then end the show by pointing out that not everyone who is exercising their rights is doing the right thing, especially just to get views and make a buck. Thankfully Ty doesn't sound like he's had a stroke this week. 23. The Olympic Pendletones
2022/03/28
Maybe it was mostly the Wilson Family Singers, but slave-driver Papa Murry pushed them to the top. And let's not forget Mike Love and Al Jardine were also part of the original band, but it was mostly the brainchild of Brian Wilson's music and sound that formed this phenomenon that has spanned the ages and been the background to all kids who hit their teens and discover cars, surfing, parties, and dating. There are plenty of more adult-oriented or darker/broodier bands that kids will dance to as well, but the Beach Boys seem to be one of the only bands that are all about having a good time all the time, nothing but pure fun when boys discover girls and girls discover boys.  Let someone else take it after the first heart breaks, or unexpected teen pregnancy, but until that time comes, let the Beach Boys blast on the stereo of your little Deuce Coupe, throw your arm around Barbara-Ann, and cruise through Salt Lake City on your way to a Surfin' Safari. Also Ty and Justin get frequently side-tracked in this episode, so hang on and enjoy the ride while they talk about was the Titanic a clever Insurance Fraud scam pulled off by the White Star Line and any number of other topics. Hopefully Ty didn't have a stroke, because he just can't seem to get it together in this episode. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/about-what/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/about-what/support
22. How the World Learned so Much About Shrimping.
2022/03/21
In this episode Justin and Ty discuss the movie: Forrest Gump. Their discussion involves more than simple synopsis. They discuss the significance of the movie, the events depicted, the portrayal of those historic events, and the artwork of the movie itself. Plenty of other movie reviews will tell you about the story of the movie, but this review will tell you more about the significance of the movie to pop culture, film-making, story-telling, and how everyone in Hollywood did their jobs. We also see some of the best use of early CGI that you'll ever see. 21. Peace Sells, but Who's Buying?
2022/03/14
This week Justin and Ty take a look at some of the major events going on in the world as 2022 gets going full steam ahead. Are we on the brink of WWIII? What is going on in Ukraine? And what is going on in the world around us in other areas? Forgive us if we get a little political in this episode. We tried really hard not to! But when this episode is over, you'll know without a doubt that Justin and Ty do NOT have a soft spot in their hearts for people with pedophilia. Sometimes it's good to take a break from delving into history and movies, so we'll offer episodes from time to time like this one where we comment on different topics that affect the world today and always. We're still all about the 60's, but we aren't stuck in the 60's. Great podcast about the 1960’s. Great discussion between the rich-voiced hosts about events and music from the 60’s, and paralleling with modern issue...
