462. We Asked 3000 Husbands & Wives What They Wished For More Of In Marriage? Survey Answers
2026/04/21
In this episode, Nick and Amy dive into a simple but powerful question: are couples wishing more for a better marriage instead of actually doing the things that build one? After surveying married couples, the answers revealed something surprisingly consistent about what people feel is missing in their relationships. Husbands and wives shared a desire for more emotional connection, quality time, appreciation, less screen distraction, and feeling more prioritized. These aren’t complicated needs—they’re the everyday things that often get lost in the busyness of work, kids, and life responsibilities. What stood out most is that many of these desires aren’t out of reach. They don’t require a different spouse or a different season of life. They come down to small, intentional choices—how we communicate, how we show up, and what we prioritize when life gets full. In today’s conversation, Nick and Amy go through real survey responses and talk about what they actually look like in marriage. If you’ve ever found yourself wishing things felt different, this episode is meant to help you shift from wishing to doing in your own relationship. 461. Marriage Superpowers: "Her Initiating & Him Saying "I've Got It!" WHY These Two Things Change Marriage With Expert Austin
2026/04/17
In superhero movies, every hero has something unique that makes them powerful, but they do not discover their strength alone and they do not use it randomly. They learn what their power is, how it works, and how it impacts the people they are trying to protect. Marriage is very similar. Each spouse has different emotional needs, different ways they feel loved, and different “super powers” they bring into the relationship. I shared how for many husbands, when a wife initiates affection or makes him feel desired, it is like his entire world shifts. It strengthens his confidence, connection, and emotional bond. For wives, when a husband steps in and says “I’ve got it” without her having to carry everything alone, it feels like emotional relief, safety, and love. It is like someone stepping in to carry the weight of her “battle,” even for a moment. These small actions often speak louder than words ever could. Think of it like superheroes working together on a team. One hero might have strength, another might have speed, another might have the ability to protect or heal. If they all try to operate the same way, the team falls apart. But when they understand each other’s strengths and work together intentionally, they become unstoppable. Marriage works the same way. When spouses learn each other’s emotional “powers” and love languages, and then intentionally use them, the relationship becomes stronger, safer, and more connected. This is where love as an action really comes in. Just like superheroes do not just say they will save people, they actually show up and act, love in marriage has to be lived out in real ways. It is expressed through words, service, affection, support, and emotional presence that is tailored to what your spouse actually needs. In this episode, we talk about both sides of this, how masculinity and femininity play into these “super powers,” and how understanding your spouse’s emotional needs and love language can completely transform your connection. When couples stop guessing and start intentionally loving each other in the way their spouse actually receives love, marriage stops feeling like a struggle and starts feeling like a team working in sync. 460. Is That Dang "Mental Load" Killing Your Intimate Life? We Talk BOTH Sides!
2026/04/14
In this episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy dive into a topic that many couples really struggle with in their marriage, but don't know how to handle... the mental load in marriage. Often invisible and rarely discussed openly, the mental load includes the planning, remembering, organizing, and emotional managing that keeps a household and relationship running smoothly. While it can affect both spouses differently, it is frequently carried disproportionately by one spouse, leading to stress, resentment, and disconnection in the marriage. In this episode, Nick and Amy talk about what the mental load is and what it looks like, why men and women are different in how they handle the mental load, and most importantly, how to communicate about it. If you struggle with holding resentment from the mental load, or you want to keep it from infiltrating your marriage then this podcast episode is for you! 458. Why Is My Marriage So Much Different From When We First Got Married? - Is This Normal?
2026/04/07
Many couples ask us this question: Why doesn’t my marriage feel like it did in the beginning? The truth is, just like each year, our marriage has different seasons where intimacy can feel different. Passion can ebb. Connection sometimes requires effort. Somewhere along the way, we absorb the myth that a healthy marriage should always feel like spring, blossoming romance, effortless sex, deep conversation, constant emotional closeness. But real marriage isn’t a single season. Like nature, your relationship moves through cycles. Emotional intimacy shifts, sexual desire fluctuates, and spiritual connection deepens, or feels quite distant at times. These changes aren’t signs of failure, they’re just natural signs of life.  In this episode, we explore the infatuation stage, and the four seasons of marriage and intimacy and how to not only survive each season, but thrive. Understand the season you’re in, stop panicking, and learn how to nurture your marriage through every stage. 🔥 Haven’t checked out the Ultimate Intimacy App yet? Now’s the perfect time! 454. It's OK To Say No To Intimate Time In Marriage - It's How You Do It
2026/03/24
What if saying no to sex could actually bring you closer together? In this episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy challenge a common belief about marriage and reveal why the ability to say no without guilt, fear, or tension is actually a sign of a strong, healthy relationship. When both spouses feel safe and respected in those moments, it creates space for deeper trust, connection, and true intimacy. This isn’t about shutting your spouse down or avoiding connection, it’s about understanding the how behind a “no.” Because for many couples, it’s not rejection itself that causes pain…it’s the way it’s communicated and received. If sexual rejection has ever caused hurt or frustration in your relationship, this episode will completely shift your perspective. 453. When Duty Sex Replaces Desire, Addressing A Listeners Question- With Expert Austin LMFT
2026/03/20
What happens when intimacy starts to feel like just another item on the to-do list? We recently heard from a listener who opened up about a struggle so many couples quietly face. After a difficult conversation with her husband about sex... or more accurately, the lack of it, she expressed to him that she felt exhausted, stretched thin by work, kids, and the demands of everyday life. Meanwhile, her husband admitted something that hit hard: he feels like she treats their intimacy like a chore… and that’s not the connection he wants. She asked for our thoughts, but the truth is, this isn’t just her story. We hear from hundreds of couples navigating this exact challenge. And honestly? We’ve been there too in our own marriage. So what do you do when desire feels out of sync, when life drains your energy, and when intimacy starts to feel forced instead of fulfilling? In this episode, we’re diving into this incredibly common struggle and sharing real, practical ways to reconnect, reignite desire, and bring intimacy back to something you both want, not something you feel obligated to do. Trust us… if you’ve ever felt this way, you’re going to want to hear this one. 🔥 Haven’t checked out the Ultimate Intimacy App yet? Now’s the perfect time! 452. Emotional & Sexual Foreplay Ideas For Your Marriage: Why BOTH Are So Important!
2026/03/17
In this engaging episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast with Nick and Amy, the conversation focuses on the importance of both emotional foreplay and sexual foreplay in building a strong, intimate marriage. Nick and Amy break down how intimacy starts long before the bedroom and how emotional connection throughout the day can greatly influence physical desire later on. The discussion explores why emotional foreplay is especially important for creating attraction, desire, and safety in a relationship. Simple daily habits like giving compliments, writing love notes, showing physical affection that is not sexual, sharing meaningful conversations, praying together, planning date nights, and speaking your spouse’s love language all play a major role in strengthening emotional connection.  They also talk about sexual foreplay and how it complements emotional intimacy. Ideas like slow kissing, massages, flirting through text messages, setting the mood with music, playful teasing, and intentional sensory touch can help couples create more meaningful sexual experiences. They emphasize that both emotional and sexual intimacy require ongoing effort, communication, and intentional investment from both partners. Nick and Amy also discuss how different life stages, stress, distractions, and unmet expectations can cause couples to drift apart if they stop doing the things that helped them fall in love in the first place. Ultimately, this episode encourages couples to keep prioritizing each other, communicate openly about their needs, and continue building intimacy throughout every stage of marriage. 451. Emotional & Sexual Intimacy Go Hand In Hand Part 2 - With Expert Austin Ellis
2026/03/13
In this powerful episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy are again joined by therapist Austin Ellis to discuss part 2 of the previous podcast 449: Emotional and sexual intimacy go hand in hand.  They discuss why so many couples struggle to maintain emotional and sexual intimacy after marriage. The conversation focuses on how life changes, unmet expectations, and lack of communication skills can create disconnection between partners. Austin shares practical insights on how couples can rebuild intimacy by developing new relational tools rather than relying on the conditions that existed when they first fell in love. The discussion explores how emotional, sexual, spiritual, intellectual, financial, and recreational intimacy all play a role in a healthy marriage. They talk about how selfishness, entitlement, pride, fear, and shame often replace connection when couples stop intentionally investing in their relationship. They also emphasize that marriage requires daily commitment, vulnerability, and a willingness to understand your spouse’s needs, wants, and emotional experiences. Austin provides therapeutic perspective on how couples can move from conflict and disconnection to unity by improving communication, building emotional safety, and choosing love over fear-based reactions.  The episode also highlights how trauma, betrayal, and unresolved emotional wounds can impact intimacy—but that healing and hope are possible with the right tools and support. Ultimately, this episode encourages couples to view marriage as a lifelong journey of growth, teamwork, and intentional connection, showing that ultimate intimacy is built through consistent effort, love, and commitment to each other. 449. Emotional & Sexual Intimacy Go Hand In Hand: Sex Is Actually More Emotional - With Expert Austin Ellis
2026/03/06
In this episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy are joined by Austin Ellis to talk about how emotional and sexual intimacy are deeply connected in marriage. They discuss how feeling emotionally safe, valued, and understood often creates a stronger desire for physical closeness, while healthy sexual intimacy can also strengthen emotional connection and help couples feel closer overall. The conversation also explores a common “stand off” many couples experience in marriage. One spouse may say they need more emotional connection before they feel desire for sexual intimacy, while the other spouse may feel that physical intimacy is what helps them feel emotionally connected.  Austin shares that sexual passion in marriage is often fueled by strong emotional connection first, but that both spouses play an important role in building that bridge. When couples intentionally work on communication, appreciation, and spending meaningful time together, emotional closeness grows, which naturally increases desire and passion. Amy and Austin also talk about how this difference does not have to become a barrier in marriage. Instead, it can become an opportunity for growth when both spouses are willing to understand each other’s needs and meet in the middle. When one spouse works to strengthen emotional safety and connection, and the other continues to show affection, pursuit, and patience, couples often find that the emotional and physical sides of intimacy begin to reinforce each other. Austin highlights the importance of vulnerability in this process. When spouses feel safe sharing their thoughts, needs, and feelings without fear of judgment, it builds trust and deepens the connection between them. This episode reminds couples that emotional and sexual intimacy truly go hand in hand. By nurturing connection, communicating openly, and making intentional efforts toward both emotional closeness and physical intimacy, couples can move past the stand off and build a stronger, more passionate, and more fulfilling marriage together.
