Mental Health Recovery: Was Jesus ever Depressed?
2026/08/17
How Do Christian’s View DepressionYes, Jesus suffered from deep depression during his life on earth. Many of us tie depression to weak faith or even abandonment by God. We assume that no one, not even God, understands what we are going through. Yet, depression is not a reflection of how strong our faith is. Jesus, the Son of God, suffered deep emotional sorrow. While in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before His crucifixion, Jesus expressed the heaviness in his heart. Matthew 26:38 (NIV) says, “Then He said to them, ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” These words prove that Jesus was not immune to depression. He carried the full weight of human sorrow. As perfect as He is in all His ways, He was so depressed at that moment. Do you see yourself as a weak person just because you are battling depression? You are not weak. Depression is not a sign of human weakness, and it is not your choice. You should not condemn yourself or feel guilty about the sorrow in your heart, mind, and soul. This is a feeling that can occur even to the strongest in faith. You should stop assuming that perhaps if you had stronger faith, you would not feel depressed.

Carvin Winans Interview
2026/08/04
Soon after, Carvin joined his brothers as part of the legendary gospel group The Winans, whose groundbreaking sound helped redefine contemporary gospel music. Their debut album, Introducing The Winans, earned a Grammy nomination, followed by Long Time Coming, which also received Grammy recognition. In 1985, Carvin earned his first Grammy Award for the album Tomorrow, writing the title track that would become one of gospel music’s most beloved songs. The following year, The Winans signed with legendary producer Quincy Jones at Qwest Records. During this era, they released six albums, four of which won Grammy Awards, including the acclaimed Live at Carnegie Hall and The Winans Return, which achieved Gold certification. Over the course of his career, Carvin has received 12 Grammy nominations and won 5 Grammy Awards. Beyond his work as a performer, Carvin’s songwriting has reached far beyond gospel music. His compositions have been recorded by some of the most celebrated voices in the industry, including Whitney Houston (Love Is), Regina Belle (Make It Like It Was), Peabo Bryson (Life Goes On), CeCe Winans (All In Your Name), Vanessa Bell Armstrong (Here’s to You), and Marvin Winans (My Story). Regina Belle’s Make It Like It Was reached #1 on the Billboard R&B chart and remains one of the most celebrated R&B ballads in Billboard history.

How to Manage Holiday Grief
2025/11/05
When you lose someone special, your world lacks its celebratory qualities. Holidays magnify that loss. The sadness deepens and the loneliness can feel isolating. The need for support may be the greatest during the holidays. Pretending you don’t hurt and/or it isn’t a harder time of the year is just not the truth for you. But you can – and will – get through the holidays. Rather than avoiding the feelings of grief, lean into them. It is not the grief you want to avoid, it is the pain. No one can take that pain away, but grief is not just pain, grief is love. Here is a podcast that may help you with managing grief

The Unaliving of George Floyd "It Could Have Been Me"
2025/06/02
On the evening of May 25, 2020, Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, unalived George Floyd, a Black man, by kneeling on his neck for nearly 10 minutes. The incident, captured on video by bystanders, sparked what may be the largest protest movement in U.S. history and ignited a national conversation about race and policing. Back in the late 1990s, I went through a similar experience in Chicago. Let me share my story.

Sticks and Stones: Words Hurt More Than Hands

Sticks and Stones: Words Hurt More Than Hands The phrase "sticks and stones may break my bones" is a well-known children's rhyme. It is often used as a retort to verbal insults or name-calling, suggesting that physical harm from sticks and stones might injure one, but words will not cause any physical harm. The earliest known use of this proverb in its full form, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me," was recorded in "The Christian Recorder," a publication of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, on March 22, 1862. In this context, it was presented as an "old adage," indicating that it was already well-known and in use by that time.
