Why you don’t really say what you do at networking events
2026/01/25
Do you ever leave a networking event realising you know exactly what everyone else does… but hardly anyone could say the same about you? You might have had good conversations. You might have felt comfortable, even enjoyed yourself, and yet nothing has come of it. No follow‑ups. No referrals. No real sense that being in that room made any difference to your business. In this episode of Rise From Within, I’m talking about why that happens. This isn’t about having a better pitch, being more confident, or forcing yourself to sound salesy. It’s about the very common ways women hold back at networking events without realising — asking questions instead of speaking about themselves, minimising what they do, or moving the focus away from their work and asking others about what they do instead. I explore what’s actually going on underneath those behaviours, why networking confidence can feel harder the more experienced you become, and how being liked at networking doesn’t automatically lead to being remembered or referred. In this episode, I cover: Why networking confidence often looks like being polite, asking lots of questions, and keeping the focus off yourselfThe difference between being socially present and being professionally present at networking eventsWhy confidence at networking events can feel harder, not easier, as your business growsThe cost of being liked at networking but not referredWhat it really means to own what you do without apology in business spacesI also talk about the temptation to say “they weren’t my people anyway” and dismiss what's really happened, and why networking isn’t just about who buys from you now, but who might remember, recommend, or refer you later. This episode is for you if you’re showing up to networking events, feel like you're doing all the right things, and still wondering why it’s not translating into opportunities and sales. Why appearance anxiety hides what you achieve in a day
2025/11/21
If you spend a lot of your day thinking about how you look, it is easy to assume that your body image and confidence will change depending on what you see in the mirror. What you often miss is how much of your life has nothing to do with your appearance at all.  Appearance anxiety can take over so quickly that you forget what your day actually involves. You forget the decisions you make, the people you support, the problems you solve and all the ways you show up without even thinking about it. This week’s article walks you through what is really happening in your day and why your achievements will give you far better evidence of who you are than your appearance ever will.  When you take a step back and look at your day properly, you will realise how much you do that has nothing to do with your appearance, and it is such a relief when you see it clearly. So this week I give you an honest look at why feeling confident in your body can be more to do with your actions than your looks, and how much your life already proves this.  In this episode I also mention Byron Katie's Four Liberating Questions. Was it something I said?
2025/11/14
Do you ever find yourself worrying that you said the wrong thing or caused a shift in a relationship? Asking yourself “was it something I said?” or “what did I do?”. Many women slip into overthinking relationships because old patterns make them assume they are at fault. One small change in someone’s behaviour and you’re in self-blame before you can even pause to question it. This article looks at why you react that way and what might really be happening beneath the surface. I’m talking about the link between old patterns, the inner critic and relationships, and the instinct to blame yourself. You will see how much of this comes from conditioning rather than truth, and how freeing it can be to question those automatic thoughts. If you want a calmer, kinder way to understand your relationships, take a moment to read this one.  Support the show Get my emails Follow on Instagram Connect with me on LinkedIn WhatsApp me! Losing confidence when your health declines
2025/11/04
You might not have noticed, but your confidence may have taken a hit because your health isn't what it used to be? Maybe your energy’s dipped, or your body just isn’t behaving the way it used to, and suddenly showing up in your business or life feels harder than it should.  That’s what this episode is about – the ways that feeling less well can start to shake your self-belief. I wrote this episode based on my own feelings, but also for the woman who’s always been strong, capable, and “on it”, and now finds herself wondering why she doesn’t quite feel like that version of herself anymore. It’s a gentle reminder that you don’t have to be at your best to still be confident, and worthy, and successful. 💛 Come and have a listen. Let’s talk about what confidence really looks like when your body feels different, and how you can begin to trust yourself again. What does your posture say about your confidence?
2025/10/20
Take my quick listener habits survey Have you ever noticed how your posture changes when you’re feeling confident… or when you’re not? In this episode, I’m exploring the powerful link between posture and confidence — how the way you sit, stand, and move can reflect what’s really going on inside. Your body language tells a story about your self-belief, and understanding it can help you build calm, grounded, embodied confidence. This isn’t about forcing yourself to stand up straight or fake confidence. It’s about learning to listen to your body and notice how posture changes when you feel safe, capable, or seen. When you’ve spent years trying to make yourself smaller, it’s easy to carry that story in your shoulders, your stance, even your breath. We’ll talk about how posture affects confidence and self-esteem, what it means to take up space without apology, and why true confidence isn’t something you perform — it’s something you feel. You’ll leave this episode with a deeper awareness of your mind-body connection and a new respect for how your body supports your confidence, presence, and power. In this episode, we cover: The connection between posture and confidenceHow body language reflects self-esteem and self-trustWhy we subconsciously shrink ourselves and how awareness begins changeWhat embodied confidence really feels likeThe subtle shift that happens when you allow yourself to take up spaceSupport the show Get my emails Follow on Instagram Connect with me on LinkedIn WhatsApp me! Rise From Within
2025/10/06
Rise From Within Launch Episode — Welcome to the New Chapter Hang on a minute! Something's changed around here!! That's right. Introducing the new era for this podcast, Rise From Within — for the woman who wants to stand tall and show up with confidence. In this first episode under the new name, I’m sharing why the podcast has evolved from The Intuitive Eating & Body Positivity Podcast into Rise From Within, a show for women who are ready to own their space in life, in business, and in their bodies. I took a step back for a couple of months to have a think about the direction I wanted the podcast to go in, and I realised my message needed to grow with me and with my business direction.  Confidence has always been at the heart of everything I do. Not just food or body image confidence, but the deep, inner self‑confidence that helps you show up fully as yourself too. In this episode, I talk about the evolution of the show, what Rise From Within stands for, and how we’ll explore the many layers of confidence. We're talking all things confidence, from boundaries and visibility, to body acceptance and business leadership. If you’ve been here since the early days, don’t worry, the intuitive eating and body confidence are still very much part of our world, but we’re expanding the conversation now. When you heal your relationship with food and your body, you make room for *so much more growth, *and I want to help you explore that growth too. So, if you’re ready to rise in confidence, self‑belief, and presence — this is where it begins.  I hope you're going to enjoy it as much as I will. 🎧 Hosted by Terri Pugh — Women’s Confidence & Body Image Coach 🌿 For the woman who wants to stand tall and show up with confidence Support the show Get my emails Follow on Instagram Connect with me on LinkedIn WhatsApp me! Vaping vs Dieting.
2025/08/11
A few days ago, I was standing in a shop sending a parcel when I realised I was surrounded by walls of brightly coloured vape liquids. All lined up like sweets, with flavours from mint to bubblegum to strawberry milkshake.  And it got me thinking… Governments have worked so hard to make smoking less appealing. It’s hidden behind shutters, wrapped in plain packaging with grim warnings, yet vapes get to sit front and centre looking tempting. While I was mulling this over I realised that dieting is treated in exactly the same way – except the difference is, we rarely talk about the health risks of dieting. So in this episode I’m comparing vaping and dieting – how they’re sold as “better” choices, the industries behind them, the addictive cycles they create, and why one gets public health warnings while the other gets praise.  I’m digging into the physical and psychological effects of dieting, from metabolism slowdown to hormone disruption, disordered eating, and long-term weight cycling. I’m talking about: The parallels between vaping and dieting as “healthier” alternativesWhy both rely on repeat customers to surviveThe hidden harms and health risks of dieting, backed by researchWhy weight stigma, not body size, costs the NHS moreHow different things could look if dieting got the same treatment as smokingIf you’ve ever wondered why dieting still gets the cultural gold star when it can be so harmful, this one’s going to make you think. Why do I look different in different mirrors and windows?
2025/08/04
Ever caught your reflection in a shop window and thought, “Hang on… I didn’t look like that this morning”? Yep, me too! So in this episode, I’m going to explain why mirrors and windows can make us look completely different, even on the same day, in the same outfit.  I’m going to talk about how reflections work (yes, there’s some light science in this one!), how lighting, angles and movement all play a part, and why the mirror you trust at home might not be showing you the “real” you either. Some insight and reassurance for when your reflection catches you off guard. I’m talking about: Why your reflection changes depending on where you see itHow mirrors and windows are made (and why that matters)The brain’s reaction to conflicting reflectionsThe answer to “Which reflection of me is true?” Support the show Get my emails Follow on Instagram Connect with me on LinkedIn WhatsApp me! What I'd say to 10 year old me now
2025/07/28
Last night, a trip to a familiar venue for my weekly pool match brought back a memory I hadn’t felt in years. I was ten years old, dancing in front of a mirror in the toilets, completely lost in joy. I wasn’t worrying about my body. I wasn’t thinking about food. I was just happy. In this episode, I share what it felt like to reconnect with that version of me, and how soon after diet culture crept in and began to change everything. This is a personal and emotional reflection on body image, childhood innocence, and the moment things started to shift. I talk about what I’d say to my younger self now, how we can all learn from those early memories, and what it means to heal the relationship with your body and reclaim the joy that was once yours. Whether you’ve lost touch with your younger self or you're working on healing your body image, this episode is a gentle reminder that she’s still in there. She always was. Maybe she just needs a little coaxing back out. Support the show Get my emails Follow on Instagram Connect with me on LinkedIn WhatsApp me! Why am I jealous of someone else’s food control?
2025/07/21
You're out for food with someone and they order the salad, skip dessert, and say they’re “just not hungry,” and suddenly you’re left wondering why you can’t seem to do that. The jealousy creeps in, along with a whole load of guilt and self-doubt. In this episode, I'm unpacking the messy, very human experience of feeling envious of someone else’s eating habits. From the illusion of control to the dream of being someone who “just doesn’t think about food,” I'm going there. I'll explore why that envy shows up, what it’s really about, and how to move towards your own version of food peace. Missing the highs of a new food plan
2025/07/07
There’s something strangely addictive about a new food plan, isn’t there? The structure. The rules. The praise you give yourself for getting it “right”. That feeling of finally being in control of your food, your body, and your life. But once you start intuitive eating, that high disappears. And in its place is quiet and calm. It’s all a bit “meh.” It can feel unsettling, even disappointing… like something’s missing. In this episode, I’m talking about the part of intuitive eating we don’t always admit – that sometimes, we miss the highs of dieting.  We’ll explore:  ✨ Why the novelty of food plans can feel so good  ✨ What makes that buzz so short-lived (and what it costs us)  ✨ Why the calm of intuitive eating feels weird at first  ✨ How to settle into a way of eating that doesn’t need drama to feel meaningful Support the show Get my emails Follow on Instagram Connect with me on LinkedIn WhatsApp me! There's no shame in a jar of sauce.
2025/06/16
Let’s talk about convenience food – the frozen meals, the microwave rice, the jars of sauce you throw into a pan when you're too tired to think. There’s so much judgement around these foods. They're often labelled as lazy, unhealthy, or 'not real cooking', but is that really fair? In this episode, I am breaking down the stigma around convenience food and exploring how it can actually support your intuitive eating journey.  From saving your sanity on chaotic evenings to helping you stay fed during tough times, convenience food has its place, and it deserves some respect! I’ll chat through the pros and cons, the classist nonsense that often gets tangled up in these conversations, and how to use convenience food in a way that feels intuitive and guilt-free.  Spoiler: you're allowed to eat the ready meal *and* be a grown adult who cares about their wellbeing. What I cover in this episode: Why convenience food gets a bad reputationHow diet culture and classism influence our food choicesThe actual benefits of using convenience optionsHow to tune into what works for you without guilt or shameA gentle challenge to embrace convenience without apologyAlso, stick around to the end to hear me talk about my new course - Confident Conversations With Your Doctor - and how you can get it at the cheapest price if you leap in right now. Still carrying your past? It's time to put it down
2025/06/09
Somewhere along the line, you might have been told who to be. Maybe you were raised to stay small, keep quiet, not take up space. Maybe you’ve always believed you’re “just someone with no willpower” or that confidence simply isn’t for you. Maybe you've dieted your whole life, or you were praised for shrinking and learned that smaller meant better. Just because that was your story, doesn’t mean it has to be your future. In this episode, I’m talking about how your past – no matter how loud it’s been – doesn’t get to decide who you are now. Ingrained beliefs around food, body image, and confidence can keep you stuck, and it's time to loosen their grip so you can finally start showing up the way you want to. Yes, there’s value in acknowledging and working through the past. But you don’t have to carry it forever. You are not defined by the old labels, the dieting history, or the way others taught you to play small. You get to choose what comes next. What that viral ‘obesity X-ray’ gets completely wrong
2025/06/02
When a shocking image goes viral - like the so-called “obesity X-ray” recently shared by The Joe Rogan Experience - it’s easy to get swept up in fear-based narratives about obesity, dressed up as health advice. But what’s the real story behind this image, and what does it say about the way we treat people in bigger bodies? In this episode, I unpack the truth behind the image (spoiler: it’s not a real X-ray), the harm caused by fear-mongering posts like these, and what body positivity actually stands for. We’ll explore weight stigma in healthcare, the importance of behaviours over body size, and why no one owes the world a smaller body. Are you seeking permission to be you?
2025/05/26
In this episode, I’m talking about the hidden ways we ask for permission from others in our life. From what we wear to how we show up at work, in relationships, and on social media, we’re often seeking permission or seeking approval from others. You’ll hear about a powerful conversation I had with a coaching client who realised she was constantly looking to others for approval in what she wears to work, and the colleagues that she looks up to and compares herself to. We unpack where that need for permission comes from, how it shows up in sneaky ways (hello, “does this look okay?”), and what it costs us when we  And of course, there’s a reflection prompt to help you take what we’ve talked about and start applying it in your own life. 💬 Ready to stop seeking permission and start owning your space?
