Episode 145 | Steven Malcolm
2024/02/23
On today's Friday edition, of the Christian Music Guys, we chat with Steven Malcolm! Steven Malcolm makes faith-driven hip-hop that's as unique as his multi-cultural background. It's a sound rooted in rap's rhythmic delivery, pop's modern melodies, and God's word, glued together by an artist whose music has earned five Dove Award nominations and more than 70 million streams. Malcolm is a dynamic storyteller that incorporates a broad range of creative influences into his music. He doubles down on his talents with his most reflective album to date, Tree. All 16-tracks explore Malcolm’s spiritual depth and versatility as a hip-hop artist. Each song reverberates like Sunday-morning spirituals filled with Saturday-evening energy. His powerful messages are reinforced with potent production by Grammy-winning heavyweights BoogzDaBeast (Kanye West), Social House (MGK), and FNZ (A$AP Rocky).  Malcolm's messages of hope and redemption come from his own experience. Raised in western Michigan and coastal Florida, he grew up in search of stability. His father, a native Jamaican who had emigrated from Montego Bay, was deported back to the Caribbean when Steven was just 9 years old, and later passed away before the two could reunite. Steven's mother struggled as a single parent and eventually left town, leaving her son to fend for himself as a young college student. His life lacked a clear direction until he accepted a friend's invitation to attend a local church service that incorporated hip-hop, dance, and worship. An acronym for “Based On A True Story,” BOATS is poised to transport listeners to a utopia of Malcolm’s own creation. “BOATS will take listeners on a journey to Away — an oasis built for the chosen and run by the redeemed,” he shares of the concept behind the record. “Imagine a place where you become what it is you long to become. Imagine a place where your gift makes a way. Imagine a place where its beauty reflects the ones who protect it and its foundation is held together by the stories of the broken. Welcome to Away.” B.O.A.T.S. is out today! stevenmalcolm.com @stevenmalcolmmusic christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christianmusicguys/message

Episode 143 | Anthony Evans
2024/02/14
On today's episode, we chat with Anthony Evans! On today show, we chat with Anthony Evans!  Throughout a fertile decade-and-a-half worth of studio recordings, songwriting, worship leading, vocal arranging, touring, acting, and most recently, becoming an author, Anthony Evans’ creative pursuits have maintained an unflinching authenticity. Yet for all the times he rode high atop the gospel charts, crossed over into pop, worked on Grammy-winning projects, stepped out on the world’s most hallowed stages such as the Hollywood Bowl and even won the ear of Christina Aguilera for a remarkable run on NBC’s “The Voice,” the multi-faceted artist was perpetually in the process of finding an inner spiritual and personal peace. After some serious soul-searching, sparked by the challenging but cathartic experience of writing his highly-anticipated memoir, Unexpected Places: Thoughts On God, Faith, And Finding Your Voice, Evans finally reached that point of shifting his perspective toward true inner peace. This is further reflected throughout his aptly named 2019 album, Altared (releasing May 17 on Sherman James Productions). And in keeping with his tradition of putting a clever twist on a theme, the title also refers to the fact that several of the songs are completely re-worked covers. These, along with a handful of heartfelt originals, are integral to shaping what’s sure to be a landmark season.Anthony Evans, No.1 Billboard charting Gospel artist, producer, performer, author, and vocal contractor/arranger for some of music’s most popular icons, announces the upcoming release of his full-length studio album “REVIVE.” The highly anticipated project will drop globally on Feb. 23 and is available today for preorder with five instant grat tracks alongside the music video premiere for “828.” Preorder “REVIVE” here and watch the “828” music video here.“REVIVE” follows on the heels of Evans’ 2020 album “Altared” – a project that marked his second consecutive #1 on the Billboard Gospel Album chart. Featuring a mix of inspiring new original songs and soul-soothing worship songs he drew on to survive this time of immense trials, Evan’s heartfelt new album, true to its title and powerfully reflects his painstaking return to a strong, enduring faith after a long season of loss, heartache, and doubt. anthony-evans.com @anthonyevansjr christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christianmusicguys/message

Episode 142 | Ernie Haase
2024/02/07
On today's episode, we chat with Ernie Haase! Ernie and Lisa make their home in Stow, Ohio, the foundation for StowTown Records. Ernie started his legendary quartet (EHSS) in 2003. Then, in 2011, he helped begin this specialty Southern Gospel record label along with good friend and fellow co-founder Wayne Haun. The Newburgh, IN, native grew up enjoying the sounds of Gospel music and, more specifically, quartet music. His favorite quartet was the legendary Cathedrals. "I remember going to hear them sing anytime they were near my hometown. When I was a teenager, I would always show up early, sometimes even before they did, and help them unload their bus. It was my dream to sing with them one day." That dream became a reality in 1990, when Ernie received the call to join his favorite quartet. At the time Ernie, who had previously sung with renown songwriter Squire Parsons in his quartet, Redeemed, was doing solo concerts and traveling in his car wherever he was invited to sing. On one particular night in the spring of 1990, Ernie was invited to sing at his alma mater, Oakland City University. Also scheduled at the concert was the Cathedrals. Little did Ernie know that his performance that evening would serve as his unofficial audition for the legendary quartet. The Cathedrals' bass singer, George Younce, was waiting in the wings, backstage, watching and listening to Haase's performance. Obviously, George liked what he heard and saw because, within a week, Ernie was making his way to meet the group for his first performance as the Cathedrals' tenor. Shortly thereafter, Ernie had the opportunity to meet the entire Younce family. Ernie's attention was quickly captured by George's daughter, Lisa, and following a whirlwind courtship, the two married in December of 1990. Lisa helps Ernie in the Signature Sound office, handling the business affairs of the quartet, and when the two aren't busy working, they enjoy reading, biking and simply spending time together. In his spare time, Ernie enjoys playing basketball, collecting vintage albums of some of the great Gospel quartets and other Southern Gospel artists, and he has a huge collection of many classic recordings along with a wide variety of Elvis Presley memorabilia. Signature Sound's latest single, 'We are the Church', is out now! Each Friday Ernie and the guys offer new music, on their Youtube channel, and conversion and information about all the good things they have planned for you the listener. Tune in every Friday at 7pm est to see it live or come back here anytime to watch. erniehaase.com @erniehaase christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christianmusicguys/message

Episode 141 | Mack Brock
2024/01/31
On today's episode, we chat with Mack Brock! Centricity Music recording artist and songwriter Mack Brock is one of the founding members of GRAMMY Award-winning Elevation Worship. Co-penning some of Elevation’s earliest hits, like RIAA certified Double Platinum® single “O Come To The Altar,” Platinum-certified “Do It Again” and Gold-certified “Resurrecting,” Brock has also written songs recorded by Phil Wickham, Jesus Culture, Passion, Pat Barrett and Bryan & Katie Torwalt, among others. After a decade with Elevation Worship, Brock released his debut, Greater Things, which garnered him a radio hit with the title-cut. The five-track Covered EP followed the next year, and 2020’s SPACE cemented Brock as a bonafide solo artist. His newest single, the anthemic “Just Like You’ve Always Done,” which is his first for Centricity Music, was co-written with Hank Bentley and Jessie Early. The song boasts of the consistency of God yesterday, today and forever. “It’s the launching pad of what we believe,” Brock says of the fresh track. “He is the same as He’s always been. He’s the same God that’s the lead character in all the stories we’ve read in Scripture. He’s still working miracles.” The strength of Brock’s new music rides on the hope he finds in the unfolding story his family is living. The South Carolina native and his wife, Meredith, who currently serves as the CEO of Proverbs 31 Ministries, have three children. From the unexpected joy discovered in foster parenting to leaving the known to pursue the unknown, Brock writes songs to remind his own heart and encourage others that there’s an all-knowing God who is sovereign over it all and is worthy of all our praise. “With my music, I’m just trying to relive all the times God has shown up,” he says. “I want to use that as a catalyst to build my faith and, hopefully, encourage others in their faith for the future as well.” mackbrock.com @mackbrock christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christianmusicguys/message

Episode 134 | Justin Gambino | Friday Edition
2023/12/22
On today's episode, we chat with Justin Gambino! Since 2015, acclaimed Texas-based singer/songwriter Justin Gambino has been developing an enthusiastic following across the United States and around the world with his charismatic live performances and hope-filled anthems. With an EP, a full-length recording, and numerous cinematic music videos to his credit, Gambino’s signature songs include “Your Hands & Feet,” “Anchored” and “Going Under.” He’s performed at festivals, churches, camps and other venues, opening for such genre leaders as TobyMac, for KING + COUNTRY, Crowder, Casting Crowns, Skillet and Switchfoot. Gambino’s testimony is a consistent theme in his music and ministry. A rebellious teen, he was arrested for theft at the age of 18. Opting for military enlistment and community service in lieu of incarceration, he spent eight years in the US Navy. While serving in Iraq, Gambino was asked to lead worship on base, rekindling a love for music he first embraced as a child. Battling PTSD and anger issues following his military service, Gambino turned to alcohol and spiraled into depression and despair. One night, on the floor of his apartment, he cried out to God for help and a new journey of redemption, hope and purpose began. Coming full circle, Gambino now holds the Brazoria County Revival each year on the steps of the Texas courthouse where he was sentenced as a teen. Made New, the second full-length studio recording from acclaimed singer/songwriter Justin Gambino, is now available everywhere. Tracing his prodigal years and the abounding grace and mercy Gambino embraced when he finally returned to the Father, Made New was produced by Nashville-based session player and producer Walter Halliwell.  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christianmusicguys/message
