Some Book excerpts: "Events in our lives, both good and bad, form rings in us like the rings in a tree. Each ring records memories that affect our feelings, our relationships, and our thoughts about God." "Understanding that salvation does not give instant emotional health offers us an important insight into the doctrine of sanctification. It is impossible to know how "Christian" a person is, merely on the basis of his outward behaviour." Recently, a friend of mine dropped by and we did a book exchange. I wasn't intending to read it anytime soon but he kept asking me; "hey how's the book going". I didn't want to lie so I picked it up and dived in and lo and behold, it started poking at some skewed-thinking patterns in me. Also, sometimes, we spirit filled tongue talking believers aren't quick to jump at titles like this one: "Healing for Damaged Emotions". We want the hard core stuff, the demon casting and binding spiritual warfare type books, not stuff about our emotions!!! Scripture has a lot to say about Emotions but this one from 3 John 2 (KJV) probably summarizes it best: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. The Soul is the faculty of our being where our Mind-Will-Emotions are centered. Saint John the Apostle is telling us that prosperity in any other area of our lives can only go as far as we are healthily-prospering in our souls! As I read along, lots of nuggets kept jumping off the page at me and here we are, going to do a study series on it. Enjoy this book series and we hope this episode blesses your heart! In this episode: We use these scriptures to blaze the path for us: 2 Chron 36:22-23 Ezra 1:1-4 Jer 29:4-14 Isa 44:21-28 Isa 45:1-13 This series:  Is a sequel of the last series: Let there be Light (In Him was Life; and the life was the light of men).  In Let there be Light we discovered two Lights - one external that God called out of darkness at the beginning of creation and the other an internal light which is found in the Life of Jesus by virtue of the Holy Spirit.  This light is very unique and accomplishes different things in us: Breaks us free from the power of darkness (sin) and translates us into the Kingdom of Light. (Col 1:13)   Then it sheds the Love of God in our hearts. (Rom 5:5) It purifies and cleanses us from sin. (1 John 1:1-7) Then it enlightens our path: which is the focus of this series: predestined - calling and purpose (that YOUR scripture might be fulfilled). (Psa 119:105) We discovered - perhaps the first and most important Light bulb that every christian needs to turn on is finding themselves in scripture and learning how scripture not only talks to you but about you - that you can harness prophetic utterances from scripture – from the writings of the prophets (Isaiah to Malachi)...that is all in the last series. Once we understand that scripture is a light - to what extent can we rely on it, can we bet the house on it?  Psa 119:105 says; your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. You have probably heard hundreds of teachings, read several books on topics like purpose driven life, I won’t bother you much with that. I noticed, as I was reading through the Gospel of John, a certain phrase started jumping off the pages so I started tracing it backward and it got stronger in my conscience every time I read it.  The phrase is, “That the scripture might be fulfilled”. It was all the action that preceded this phrase. Wait a minute, things were happening in the natural, physical matter was being transformed, changed and altered, new governments and policies were being coerced to fall in place all for the fulfilment of scripture??? We always read and thought that this was done for Jesus but when we combine Heb 10:7 and Gal 2:20-21, it hits you like a thousand volts (not that I’ve been hit by thousand volts before haha) when you realise that Christ lives through you and scripture is being fulfilled in and for you as well. As we chronologically study through the book of John - in the neighbourhood of this phrase: “That the scripture might be fulfilled” you will be astounded at how much activity was going on around this phrase. Once you understand how much authority scripture and fulfilment of scripture has you will no longer be swayed to and fro by the winds of this world.  What I want to help you with in this series is to build the deepest roots possible to walk in your purpose and calling because Satan and his cohort will be trying to get you off the ball but for as long as you know that the scripture can’t be broken, you will remain steadfast in the Faith.  Are you ready? And in all your getting, get understanding. I believe more than ever these words couldn’t be truer, in a world where many have lost FAITH not just in God but in the “system”, many are walking around HOPELESS and the word LOVE is thrown around unintentionally, not to mention decisions upon decisions; our own personal decisions and legislative ones being made without the backing of WISDOM… These words, “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding…” have prompted a deeper search into the wisdom of God - Elohim Adonai -the Everlasting and Ancient of Days. Recently in one of my koinonia-s with the Lord, He said to me, “Calvin, how many people would jump at the opportunity to sit down with the richest or most famous or most influential or top performing etc. people in this world ?” Many of us given the opportunity would love to hear the words from one of these minds. Their words would be received like a most valuable treasure and stored in the depths of our heart if not nailed to our hearts.  He went on to say, “You have a similar opportunity every day, everyday you can sit at the feet of the wisest and richest man who has ever lived on this planet.” And the only thing it would cost you is time. I said wooow, that’s true, my perspective changed as I was reading through Proverbs chapter 12 and 13. My eyes were being enlightened by ancient truths that have pillared our society today.   I said with Joy and gladness in my heart, I’m going to treat further readings of the book of Proverbs as appointments with King Solomon. Everyday I will make it a habit to meet with King Solomon to give me the perspective of a King, why not? Besides Rev 1:6 says; “...and has made us Kings and Priests to His God…” and who wouldn’t want to hear words coming directly from a King?   You see friend, in Christ we are many things and to be partakers of our new-creation-nature realities we must first renew our minds. Be ye transformed by the renewal of your mind (Rom 12:2). Prov 1:7 (NKJV) says; “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Knowledge…” and Prov 9:10 (NKJV) says; “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” With this new perspective, I believe that “The fear or reverence of God’s Word is the beginning of Spiritual encounters”  So journey along, take a seat, get comfortable, open your eyes, ears, heart, mind and soul to receive this engrafted Word with meekness that is able to save our souls from the pits of Faith-lessness, Hope-lessness, Love-lessness and Wisdom-lessness.  Enjoy this Wisdom is the Principal Thing series and we hope this episode blesses your heart! For partnership, contact us: [email protected] Episode 7 of the 2024 Kick-Off series. In this episode: Let there be Light (In Him was life; and the life was the light of men). In this series: First, Happy New Year, but I prefer Blessed New Year because if 2024 is filled with God’s Blessings, there will be much to be “happy” about.  The change of the calendar into a new year doesn’t automatically new us, some of us brought in baggage from last year (2023) and are hoping that things will magically pick up the new aura. Once the New Year newness starts to fade, reality sets in of some of the things we set on the shelf to celebrate the holidays!  So how do we deal with the new year expectations and unknowns coupled with some of the previous year’s baggage? Hmmm…It’s a fair question to ask…  I was asking myself and decided, how about we draw some inspiration from some of the “beginnings” we see in scripture, How did God deal with them? The first one is from Gen 1:1-4 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. The second one is from John 1:1-9 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. Summary of these two beginnings: Light and Life!!! I believe this is what we all need as we sojourn through the unknown and unfamiliar of 2024 with some baggage on our backs. And who better to Light up and Life-us than our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ?!  Prov 13:12 says; Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. We need a full tank of Hope.
