Have you ever started a project with a strong idea of how it would turn out, only for it to change halfway through? That’s sort of what happened with Sydney artist jnr.’s debut EP, I’ve been looking for you my whole life. A bit over a month ago, if you'd be walking by Buddys Bar in Newtown on a Thursday night, you might have spied something raucous happening inside. It was the launch of Sydney artist RAGEFLOWER's debut EP Infinite Highs, End of Times. It was a sold out show, and that gives you a bit of an indication of the hype that's been swirling around Rageflower - otherwise known as Maddy Powers, who you might know from the band FVNERAL. Rageflower's debut EP is a knockout, full of vivid pop tracks that pull from country, rock, and other modern patron saints of pop like Phoebe Bridgers and MUNA. Ninajirachi has been one of the most talked about Australian dance exports for a few years now, playing sold out shows and packed festivals stages all around the world. Earlier this year, Chitra, a songwriter from Melbourne, released a single called Big Shot. A big, bruising indie rock pop track, it’s quickly become one of our most played songs of the year. And now, there’s plenty more where that came from. Chitra has just released her debut album, 'You Can See It When It’s Dark'. It’s a brilliant record, full of wonderfully drawn indie rock tracks.  Chitra, a sharp, deft songwriter, has a real ear for hooks, which comes to the fore on this album. In 2019, a singer-songwriter from Wollongong released an EP called Persevere. It was a collection of urgent, emotional, and endlessly memorable tracks, and it clearly connected with fans, because the EP was certified Gold in Australia.  It was a prophetic start for Tyne-James Organ, who went on to release an excellent debut album called Necessary Evil in 2021, propelled by the immensely popular single Sunday Suit.  Now, Tyne-James has returned with second album The Other Side, an album that is both gut-wrenching and life-affirming, just like life itself really? Melbourne’s Press Club began the way a lot of Australian bands do, jamming away to their heart’s content in a garage in Brunswick. In the years since they’ve become one of the most respected punk-rock acts in the country, off the back of three incredible records - their debut Late Teens, Wasted Energy, and Endless Motion, which arrived in 2022 to a landslide of critical acclaim.  The band have now returned with their fourth record, To All The Ones That I Love. It’s undeniably Press Club - frenetic, shifting, emotional punk rock, but it also pushes at their boundaries more than ever before.  As always, it’s an epic listen, destined to be one of the best Australian albums of the year.
