What hidden attributes does controlled environment agriculture offer? -Closer to home. That translates into tomatoes and strawberries staying on the vine a few days longer, allowing flavor development. The product is fresher, longer on store shelves. There are fewer transport costs and infrastructure logjams. -Controlled environment. That means that growth isn’t dependent on climate vacillations. Nurturing the plant isn’t compromised by insect pressure. Input requirements are less cumbersome. There are more, but you get the drift. CEA folks are the first to admit there are circumstances to overcome to scale effectively. But as Todd and Tom Stenzel agree, the value of CEA will only grow as our population does.
