Major PS Ganapathi of the 8th battalion of the MAHAR Regiment was also deployed on this mission. He was executing an operation that was supposed to last twelve hours but continued relentlessly for seventy-two hours. For three days, Major Ganapathi and his team were fighting against heavy firing by the LTTE. 11 members of his team were killed during these three days.
