Description

After more than 35 years in the classroom, we’ve retired from teaching-but not from telling stories. We’ve shared our favorite school-day tales, and now it’s time to turn the spotlight on us. These days we’re focused on growing older (but definitely not growing up). We still don't know what we didn't know, but you might pick up a life lesson or two-between the laughs.   Email us at [email protected] #OlderWomenHumor#FunnyWomen#Podcast#ComedyPodcast#WomenInComedy#LadiesWhoLaugh #Over50#MidlifeHumor#BabyBoomerTales#GenXWomen#AgingDisgracefully#FunnyNeverGetsOld #MenopauseHumor#EmptyNester#MidlifeCrisis#DatingOver50#FemaleFriendship#SistersInLaw #YaYaSisters#LifeLaughed#PodcastCommunity#PodcastForWomen#ListenNow#SupportWomen

Do You Love NOT Camping?
2026/09/25
Ep 71: Do You Love Not Camping?  They went from backpacking the Appalachian Trail to arguing about microwave placement in their tiny campers. It's called growth. Sue has a fridge magnet of a woman getting out of a freshly made bed that says "I love not camping." This is her entire personality now.Lisa once got pushed off an air mattress by her own grandchildren and slept in the car. She calls this "a good time."Boundary Waters trip where someone brought canned Spaghetti-Os and a Rubbermaid tote. Real potatoes. A hang-up shower. Lisa brought Pop-Tarts and said "don't touch my food." She was the smartest person on that trip.Sue smuggled vodka in a shampoo bottle at 17 and was questioned by the outfitter about why she needed 12 ounces of conditioner for two nights. A trailblazer, honestly.Childhood camping involved a 110-pound canvas tent, a 100-pound wooden kitchen, and a tornado that destroyed everything while the counselor slept through it in his motor home. The kids walked to shelter in a downpour and one went back for Sue's pillow. Priorities.Lisa's sister tried to use a toddler potty chair in a camper. It held about a cup. It did not go well. There is a universal camper rule: no pooping in the camper. If you poop in the camper, you are an idiot. Sue said this, not Lisa.Lisa wants to live in a Sprinter van and shower at the YMCA. Sue's reaction: "You aren't using MY electricity."Sue admits she married an outdoorsy man under false pretenses. He still hasn't recovered.Closing thought from Lisa: "Whether your eyes swelled shut or you got ticks on your cooter" — nature is good for the soul. Do you have a story to share? Games People Play (Badly)
2026/06/05
We're in a Camper and Nobody Asked Sue and Lisa are recording from a camper, fresh off graduation season and still handing out $20 bills. Today's topic: games — and everything that can go wrong when you play them with the people you love. Chapter 1 Cheaters, Quitters & the Guy Who Takes the Elevator Up Kilimanjaro Every game table has a type — the cheater, the quitter, the ultra-competitive, the clueless one — and Sue and Lisa have met all of them. As retired teachers, they have strong feelings about tenacity, and a Kilimanjaro story that will tell you everything about a person in four seconds. Chapter 2 Our Moms Said WHAT?! From "Wiener liquor" in the backseat to a sweet grandma being called a lying whore mid-Bullsh#! game, their moms and grandmas in this episode steal every story. Turns out the funniest game moments almost always involve someone's mother who had no idea what she was signing up for. Chapter 3 Weird Games You Need to Play Immediately Sue and Lisa recommend Gartic Phone, Hues & Cues, Mrs. Mumbles, and the Quantum Leap same-word game — and they actually play one live on air. No equipment required, no losers, just a good crowd and low expectations. Chapter 4 Fuzzy Duck, Dog Collars & Other Things That Should Not Be Legal Quarters, Fuzzy Duck, and one electric dog collar incident that escalated faster than anyone planned. These are the games nobody teaches you — you just end up playing them at a party and hope everyone makes it to adulthood. Chapter 5 Put Down Your Phone and Play Something Sue and Lisa want your best game recommendations — especially anything that works across generations. Email [email protected] and find them on Buzzsprout, YouTube (with subtitles!), and Substack and wherever it is you find yourslf right now. Do you have a story to share? Do you just want to talk? Best Laughs of All Time- Part 2
2026/05/08
In this “best laughs” episode part 2, enjoy some of Sue and Lisa’s favorite guest moments—along with a few of their own stories—the ones that had everyone laughing to the point of panic peeing. Remember Nancy, “Donald,” “Betsy,” and “Chrissy”? From accidentally teaching kids the sign for orgasm instead of October… to calling in “sick” from a tropical island payphone and getting busted by a cruise ship horn… to sniffing Tootsie Rolls off the classroom floor—Sue and Lisa (and their guests) are laughing at themselves so you can laugh right along with them. Best Laughs of All Time- Part 1
2026/04/22
Lisa and Sue revisit the moments that made them laugh so hard they couldn’t recover—possibly not even with a bathroom break in time. This “best of” episode pulls from some of their earliest podcasts, including classroom life gems like the great fish tank debacle (apparently, electricity is optional, but fish are not). They relive an end-of-year cleaning disaster involving a rag bag and an unexpected pair of granny panties, a typing lesson that took a turn when a student casually mentioned he was missing two fingers, and the unforgettable crisis of a plastic Lysol container stuck on a child’s finger. There are the snack rebellions—black olives worn proudly on fingers until they were banned, then rolled down desks in quiet protest, and string cheese painstakingly shredded into a pile because using hands was apparently too mainstream. And, of course, the legends: the substitute who played a “nose flute,” biked through anything short of a natural disaster, and once simply… didn’t come back from lunch; the entirely fabricated ghost of Rachel Underwood; and a prank involving a maxi pad that probably shouldn’t have been as funny as it was. Because sometimes the only way to survive teaching… is to laugh at the parts no one would ever believe anyway. Do you have a story to share? Do you just want to talk? Send us a text! Colonoscopies Part 2-Where Did I Put My Dignity?
2026/03/18
Lisa and Sue continue their discussion about colonoscopies with part 2, including a sure-to-be-viral rap about the joys of colonoscopies. They phone Sue's friend Anne, who describes choosing a colonoscopy over “poo in a box” testing at 50, enduring the prep, and the awkward loss of dignity when a male nurse she knew assisted.  Sue and Lisa compare screening options, joke about medical jobs involving stool samples, and rank procedures such as pelvic exams, mammograms, stress tests, colonoscopies, and endoscopy, emphasizing that the prep and waiting are the worst parts.  They share post-sedation silliness, discuss polyps and repeat screening intervals, compare colonoscopies to dental cleanings, and once again pitch their “prep pants” ideas. Colonoscopies Part 1-If You Don't Laugh, You'll Cry
2026/03/04
Retired Wisconsin teachers Lisa and Sue share a humorous conversation sparked by Lisa needing antibiotics before a dental appointment due to an artificial knee and Sue picking up her prescriptions, including a large colonoscopy prep jug.   They discuss the importance of colonoscopies, with Lisa starting screenings at 38 because her father died of colon cancer and continuing every 3–5 years depending on polyps, and mention people delaying or needing earlier screening.   In We Didn’t Know What We Didn’t Know (Life Laughed), these two decades-long friends swap tales about aging, dignity (or the lack thereof), medical misadventures, and why you should never take your clothes off at the dentist. It’s part cautionary tale, part public service announcement, and mostly laughter. They trade prep tips and mishaps: clear liquids, avoiding red drinks, using Gatorade/MiraLax or other preps, hydration to avoid dehydration, and recount vomiting and last-minute enemas and pregnancy tests, scheduling frustrations, and Lisa’s daughter doing prep on a show-choir bus.   They joke about medical specialties and pitch “procedure pants/colonoscopy chic,” then promise a part two. Granny's Value-losis Disease
2026/02/04
In this episode, retired teachers Lisa and Sue tackle a very real condition no one warned us about: Value-losis—the sudden belief that every dish, photo, knickknack, and Precious Moment figurine is priceless (spoiler: it’s not). From baby clothes no one wants, to eleven tubs of photos nobody asked for, to the cruel truth about Hummels, Beanie Babies, and Princess Diana collectibles, the ladies dig into why we cling to stuff—and why our kids absolutely do not want to deal with it later. There’s talk of storage units (too many), souvenirs (too big), shot glasses (acceptable), and the existential horror of our Mom’s accumulations. Along the way, they share practical advice (label your photos, digitize your memories, stop buying “Istan-bowls”), laugh about memory lapses, and swap stories ranging from heartwarming to mildly terrifying (yes, there’s a creepy storage unit moment—trust your Spidey senses). The big takeaway? Keep what makes you happy—but don’t leave your loved ones buried under your sentimental clutter. Sixty might be the age when you still feel 30… but you finally start asking, “Do I really need this?” Don’t catch Value-losis. Life laughed. 00:00 Introduction: Meet Lisa and Sue 00:52 The Concept of Value-losis 02:19 Sorting Through Memories 03:43 The Digital Age of Photos 08:52 The Storage Unit Dilemma 11:54 A Creepy Encounter at the Storage Unit 15:34 The Hummel Collection and Family Heirlooms 17:07 Precious Moments and Beanie Babies 18:31 Selling Antiques and Unexpected Popularity 20:28 Downsizing and Valuing Sentimental Items 21:50 Reflecting on Aging and Accumulating Stuff 22:41 Conclusion and Final Thoughts   Do you have a story to share? Aging With Grace: Menopause Brain
2026/01/16
In this episode, retired teachers Lisa and Sue-who somehow survived 35+ years in classrooms without permanently losing their minds-talk about aging, memory lapses, and why walking into a room now feels like a pop quiz you didn’t study for. They swap stories about forgotten names, family conversations that move faster than their recall, and the comic relief that comes with realizing you’re not alone in this stage of life.  Along the way, they discuss genetic testing, memory fears, and why grace (for ourselves and others) might be the most important lesson we ever learn. Dementia isn’t funny, but the everyday brain blips of aging absolutely can be. 00:00 Introduction and Background 00:36 Memory Lapses and Aging 03:33 Funny Classroom Memories 07:43 Unexpected Encounters 09:05 A Case of Mistaken Identity 10:07 Ice Cream Store Encounter 11:08 Sisterly Similarities 11:46 Aging with Grace 13:11 Hearing Test Adventures 14:51 The Art of Listening Do you have a story to share? We're Back!
2025/12/21
After 35+ years wrangling kids in the classroom, Lisa and Sue have finally retired—but don’t expect them to act their age. In this laugh-out-loud episode, the dynamic duo returns from a “short” break (who’s counting months, anyway?) to launch the next chapter of their podcast: “We Didn’t Know What We Didn’t Know: Life Laughed.” They’re swapping lesson plans for life lessons, tackling the wild ride of aging with the same humor and honesty that made them legends in the teachers’ lounge. From milestone birthdays and summer “vacations” that last until December, to the real talk about surgeries, Spanx, and the eternal mystery of Barbie and Ken anatomy, nothing is off-limits. You’ll hear about their favorite doctor (who’s as blunt as she is brilliant), the joys of going bra-free, and why “nipping the nips” is a legit life lesson. Whether you’re a seasoned “oldie” or a curious whippersnapper, Lisa and Sue promise plenty of laughs, a few surprises, and maybe even some wisdom you didn’t know you needed. Tune in, catch your breath, and get ready to laugh at the madness of growing older—but never growing up. Do you have a story to share? Do you just want to talk? Send us a text! Good-Bye...Farewell...For Now
2025/04/15
In this final episode of their current podcast, Sue and Lisa announce they're taking a break to reimagine the show, returning in the fall with a fresh focus on life beyond the classroom. After four years of juggling hobbies, parenting, grandparenting, and podcasting, they’re shifting gears to share real, unfiltered stories about aging, lessons learned, and hilarious misadventures. They tease upcoming episodes filled with candid conversations about getting older, including unexpected experiences like surgeries, menopause, and body surprises no one warns you about. The hosts reflect on their 61-episode journey, thanking loyal listeners and encouraging them to share past episodes and send in ideas for the future. (email them at [email protected]) It's an honest, heartfelt farewell-for-now, with the promise of even more laughter and wisdom to come.  Do you have a story to share? Do you just want to talk? Would You Rather?
2025/03/14
Teaching is full of impossible choices—would you rather have a full week of indoor recess or supervise the cafeteria during a Jell-O food fight? In this episode, Sue and Lisa dive into the classic game of Would You Rather?, but with a teacher twist! From classroom conundrums to staff meeting nightmares, they hilariously debate the lesser of two evils in the world of education. Tune in for laughs, nostalgia, and maybe a little too much truth about life in the trenches of teaching. Would you rather miss this episode or hit play right now? (Hint: Choose wisely!) You Know You're An Elementary Teacher If...
2025/02/06
You Know You’re an Elementary Teacher If...  Welcome back to We Didn’t Know We Didn’t Know, the podcast where overworked teachers can laugh instead of cry (or cry while laughing—your choice). In this episode, we break down the hilarity of You Know You’re an Elementary Teacher If... with four sidesplitting categories: 1️⃣ Skills We Never Knew We’d Need – Who knew cutting 32 Valentine hearts in record time and dodging glitter were Olympic-level events? 2️⃣ Holidays and Special Days Are Special – Where else does wearing a turkey hat count as a professional skill? 3️⃣ Teachers in the Wild – Yes, that was your student who shouted, “Hey, Mrs. Johnson!” while you were buying boxed wine in sweatpants. 4️⃣ Retirement Revelations – We may have retired, but why are we still mentally lining up strangers by height? From accidental public teacher voice to still saving empty paper towel rolls “just in case,” we’re here to prove that once you’re a teacher, you’re always a teacher. Grab your coffee (or your boxed wine), and let’s laugh through the chaos together! Do you have a story to share? Do you just want to talk? Send us a text! Icebreakers From Hell
2025/01/23
In this episode of their comedy podcast for teachers, Sue and Lisa discuss the most absurd and cringe-worthy icebreakers they've experienced in professional settings. They share their takes on everything from uncomfortable shoulder massages to quirky activities like 'Two Truths and A Lie' and 'Organize by Height'. The hosts play a game of 'Pass or Fail' for various icebreakers, reminisce about awkward moments, and even brainstorm their own wacky icebreaker ideas, including 'Mystery Lunch Leftovers' and 'Synchronized Dancing to the School Bell'. They wrap up by poking fun at ridiculous icebreaker questions and emphasize the importance of humor in the teaching profession. Do you have a story to share? Do you just want to talk? Send us a text! You can hear the "Three Chesters" story in completeness! We'll be back with a new episode ASAP. Share our podcast with your friends. You're not sharing are you? Do it. We'll wait. It's what we used to do for a living... ORIGINAL SYNOPSIS:  Sue and Lisa share how they came to make this podcast.  Be ready to laugh along with us as we share "What We Didn't Know We Didn't Know" about having pets in our classrooms.  Over the last 30 years, we've invited Madagascan hissing cockroaches, aquariums of fish,  and cages hamsters named after "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" characters into our classrooms.  Do we regret it? Shut Up, Sit Down, and Earn A Marble
2025/01/02
In this new episode, Sue and Lisa take a trip down memory lane to explore the evolution of school discipline. From the intimidating Board of Education (a.k.a. the paddle) to today’s mindfulness exercises, they unpack the absurd, sometimes traumatizing, and always memorable tactics teachers have used to keep classrooms in check. Get ready for laugh-out-loud stories about group shaming, the dreaded name-on-the-board punishment, the mystery of marble jars, and the token economies that prepared us all for capitalism. Whether you were a “three-checkmark rebel” or the kid who tanked the class pizza party, this episode will have you rolling in the aisles—or at least writing “I will not talk in class” 300 times. Tune in for a comedic celebration of how far we’ve come…and how much we secretly miss the drama of the sparkly marble jar! Do you have a story to share? Do you just want to talk? Send us a text!
