Ella Borg is a rising star in the Melbourne art scene. They touch all corners of our community through dynamic and refreshing work - often pulling on personal and sensory experience. 
With a portfolio that constantly diversifying, Ella has championed using the tools at hand and creating something that is unique to themselves. Now, a highly sought after creator, they juggle their time between designing, photographing, merchandising, video editing, and public relations - just to name a few. Spinning many plates, Ella has found themselves collaborating with some of the most unique brands and artists across Australia, with the most recent collaboration being with POSMO (a sex toy concept store inspired by queer theory) to create a series of prints. Ella discusses how the ‘untitled’ series was set to explore the link between gender indentity and sexual identity with neurodivergent individuals. 

 Across their instagram you’ll find plenty of process videos and imagery, Ella calls out that they draw a lot of inspiration from digital platforms used and always want to make the most of the tools on hand. This results in a unique and very internet inspired aesthetic - one they link back to find their identity through internet culture.

This month we tackled the podcast a little differently. We’ve all been impacted by lockdown in a variety of ways - Adrian and Darcy catch up to talk about how they are experiencing the current lockdown, we both share personal ways we have been looking after our own mental health. We’re also joined by Zara, a registered psychologist, to ask some burning questions about the impact lockdown is having on our generations. Additionally, Zara shares a curated list of free support networks we can all access if you’ve had your mental health impacted in any way. Guy Tyzack is a Victorian short film & music video director. With a hard focus on character driven stories and an acute awareness of his inspirations and limitations, Guy has quickly become the go to man for music videos in Melbourne - with recent productions with the Murlocs, Hideous Sun Demons, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Guys fascination with character was developed early in his love for the Mighty Boosh, since then he has always loved the humour in outliers and odd things. After studying in VCA and creating several short films, Melbourne band Gonzo reached out for help in creating a music video - Guy quickly learnt that these odd character driven studies with loose plot structures leant perfectly to his interests. Since then Guy has been working with a collection of top shelf Melbourne band with plans to continue. Guy talks about learning to thrive in a stress induced environment and how to find magic within those limitations, calling back to a Lars von Trier film “The Five Obstructions” he viewed several years ago. It’s clear that Guy is an incredibly thoughtful and reflective creator, aware of his influences but able to critique bad habits he had previously adopted from them (re:storyboards are for cowards). It’s an exciting time for Guy as it feels like he is only starting to really flesh out this space in Melbourne - we can’t wait to follow along for the ride. Austen is a Melbourne-based pop icon. Austen has a unique sound matched only by her curated unique style. Pulling on synth-pop, electronic, and indie influencers, Austen has quickly become a rising star in the Melbourne scene. Austen adopts a bold character through her performance, one that has a striking look and massive presence - this is a surprising juxtaposition against her self-described introvert self. This character allows her to face the media head-on, which as a self-managed artist, is quite a formidable task. We caught Austen at the perfect time to chat about her new single ‘North South East West’, a beautiful track with a powerful hook. She shared some valuable insight on how she managers herself and the many hats she needs to wear to do so. Fenn Wilson is folk musician based in Melbourne. He’s an artist weathered into shape through gigs, playing at notable festivals such as the Port Fairy Folk Festival and the Queenscliff Music Festival – where he was named Emerging Artist of the Year. Fenn released his debut album ‘Tales of the Black Dog’ in 2015 and followed this up in 2019 with his somber & moving EP ‘Ghost Heroin’. A nuanced listen about new emotions during a challenging time. Now, at Cheating Heart records, Fenn is gracing Melbourne stages again with his new single 'Love again' - a beautiful track about the uncertainties of loving again after losing someone. Fenn is supported by George, Jack, Michael, and Fin, together they develop their tracks and have a wonderful stage presence. Erana picked up acting a few years back and has already built quite a catalogue of works. In addition to her role as Toni, you can find her in feature-length film ‘The changeover’ (2017) and as a recurring character in the New Zealand product ‘Golden Boy’ (2019). We caught up with her to hear about the challenges of getting into character & how COVID affected the media circuit for ‘The Wilds’. Queer-ways: Retracing Melbourne’s Queer Footprint is an exciting new initiative that aims to map queer experiences in Melbourne. Queer-ways will be a unique form of interactive storytelling combining queer stories and voices of Melbourne’s past and present. The project is an inclusive, responsible and educational look into the vibrant and underground history of queer Melbourne.LUCIANO & Georgia Keats have developed Queer-ways in partnership with the Australian Queer Archive & have recently completed a residency as Testing Grounds. Both LUCIANO & Georgia are talented artists in their own right - often pulling from personal experience in their work. We caught up with them both to hear about how the project came together, the peril of finding funding, and why this project is important for the community.
